The role

For over five decades, the Renewal Programme has been a trusted cornerstone of the community in the London Borough of Newham, tackling the root causes and consequences of poverty, isolation, and disadvantage.

Role overview

This role is central to our mission to support sustainable living, reduce food waste, tackle local food insecurity, and foster meaningful community connections. As a key part of delivering the vision set out in our National Lottery-funded RenewALL Hub proposal, you will ensure our food provision goes beyond meeting immediate needs to build inclusion, wellbeing, and pathways into wider community support.

Your primary responsibility will be to secure regular donations of surplus food by developing and maintaining strong partnerships with local supermarkets, shops, restaurants, and national redistribution organisations like the Newham Food Alliance, Felix Project, and Feeding Britain.

You will manage the effective use of this food across our services, including the foodbank, food pantry, warm meals programme, and cooking classes. This will involve careful stock management, menu planning, and coordinating with lead staff to ensure our food provision meets Newham’s environmental, health, and cultural needs. A key part of this will be overseeing the successful operation and promotion of our expanded food pantry.

Coordinating volunteers will be essential, particularly in managing and expanding our cargo bike fleet for surplus food collection and redistribution. You will also explore opportunities to monetise these sustainable transport services. To further engage the community, you will organise and host quarterly workshops on reducing food waste and eating on a budget.

Ultimately, you will play a vital role in coordinating our surplus food operations, managing volunteer teams, and strengthening partnerships to ensure our food services are impactful, sustainable, and community-led.

Key Responsibilities

Food Supply & Partnerships

• Secure regular surplus food donations from local supermarkets, shops, restaurants, farms, and redistribution networks (e.g., FareShare, Felix Project, Newham Food Alliance).
• Build strong partnerships with local and national food aid providers to maximise supply, reduce duplication, and ensure continuity of stock.
• Ensure culturally appropriate, nutritious food options are consistently available.

Food Service Delivery

• Lead the operational management of the RenewALL Food Pantry, ensuring it is welcoming, respectful, and centred on dignity and choice.
• Oversee twice-weekly pantry sessions, ensuring high-quality customer service, stock availability, and culturally relevant food.
• Maximise the effective use of volunteers in the operation of the pantry.
• Use the pantry as a gateway to wider support by integrating referrals into health, wellbeing, advice, and volunteering pathways.

Sustainable Food Initiatives & Logistics

• Manage and expand the cargo bike food redistribution programme, ensuring effective logistics, safety, insurance, and maintenance.
• Champion environmental sustainability, embedding low-waste, low-carbon practices across all food services.
• Organise and deliver quarterly workshops on food waste reduction and eating on a budget.

Volunteer Leadership & Team Management

• In partnership with the Volunteer Manager, recruit, train, and support volunteers across the Foodbank, Food Pantry, café, warm meals, and cargo bike services.
• Work with colleagues to develop food collection rotas, provide training (food safety, customer care), and ensure smooth operations across all food-related services.
• Foster an inclusive, positive volunteer culture, ensuring volunteers feel valued and engaged.

Compliance, Monitoring & Resource Management

• Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and Environmental Standards, maintaining accurate records and certifications.
• Manage budgets effectively, ensuring value for money and accurate reporting.

Innovation & Development

• Work with colleagues to explore and develop revenue opportunities linked to sustainable food and transport initiatives (e.g., monetising cargo bike deliveries).
• Together with partners and colleagues, explore the implementation of employment focussed opportunities for residents, for example via deliveries on the cargo bikes.

  Project Awareness & Marketing

• Work with our marketing team to introduce creative community campaigns (e.g., Reverse Advent, seasonal drives, sponsorships) to encourage donations of both food and direct funds.

About Us: 

The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is a membership organisation dedicated to promoting and enhancing the science and practice of infection prevention and control (IPC) within all health and care settings. With a commitment to working collaboratively to prevent infection, the IPS is a supportive network for IPC practitioners, and delivers education and training within the IPC field.  With 2,400 members across the UK and internationally, the IPS plays an important role in supporting and developing IPC professionals and advancing knowledge and best practices to safeguard public health. 

Last year the IPS launched its new strategy: Working together to prevent infection. In order to deliver this strategy, in early 2024 the Board of Trustees took the decision to recruit the Society’s first staff team, moving the organisation from a model that had been led by volunteers and operationally managed with an association management organisation.  The intention is this decision will transform the Society, taking it to the next phase in its evolution, and furthering our goals of supporting our members, improving IPC practice, ensure equity of access and support for a diverse and multidisciplinary workforce, and influencing and shaping IPC education and policy.

Position Overview: 

Currently, the IPS events and education portfolio includes: 

• Annual Conference which attracts over 700 attendees, 80 exhibitors/sponsors. The programme is developed and delivered by our Scientific Programme Committee, and the event is operationally managed and delivered by an external Professional Conference Organiser (PCO). 

• Up 20 one/two day in person/hybrid events currently developed and delivered by our volunteers, our corporate partners or a PCO. 

• Online resources – developed and delivered by our Education and Professional Development Committee (EPDC), Branches and Special Interest Groups. 

The Annual Conference will continue to be managed by a PCO and the organisation of our committees smaller annual conferences will be supported by our own team.

We are now seeking a dynamic and experienced Education and Events Executive to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of educational programs and events aimed at advancing the understanding and practice of infection prevention and control. 

This will be an exciting and challenging role where Education and Events Executive will work with the Education and Events Manager to deliver up to 20 one-day events per year, either as in person, virtual or hybrid events.

Key Responsibilities: 

Educational Programme Development: 

• Working with the Education and Events Manager, assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive educational programme that aligns with IPS objectives and serves the needs of our members. 

• Assist with the production and development of educational materials and resources. 

• Take ownership of the promotion and communication of the IPS’ courses and all educational materials and resources. 

Event Planning and Execution: 

• Work closely with the Education and Events Manager to plan, organise, and ensure the professional execution of the educational programme including educational resources, conferences, workshops and webinars. 

• To be the point of contact with regional volunteers to assist them with their events, and ensure a consistent calibre of IPS event is achieved throughout the regions. 

• Under direction from the Events and Education Manager, assist or deliver all aspects of event planning and logistics, including venue management, online registration, delivery via a virtual platform, sponsorship and exhibition management, catering, audio-visual requirements, and onsite staffing as required. 

• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful event delivery, 

• Actively work with colleagues to communicate and promote the IPS’ courses as well as all educational materials and resources. 

• Actively engage with sponsors, speakers and other stakeholders, and act as first point of contact for all enquiries. 

• Ensure any sponsor and exhibitor deliverables are met, and that stakeholders are satisfied with the calibre of events. 

• Foster member engagement through educational initiatives, ensuring alignment with the society's goals and objectives. 

Financial Management: 

• Develop and manage budgets for educational programmes and events to ensure that the event programme achieves a surplus.

• Consistently monitor budgets, expenses and revenue to ensure agreed financial targets are met. 

Marketing & Communications: 

• With the Education and Events Manager, help devise a marketing and communications strategy for both the educational and events outputs of the Society 

• Take ownership of the Society’s marketing and social media strategies as it related to events and education

• Regularly update the events and education sections of the Society’s website, and work with the Membership Engagement Manager to ensure maximum take up of educational courses and IPS events. 

• Disseminate marketing materials to regional volunteers and assist them with their events marketing strategies. 

Other: 

• Research potential sponsors and partners for programmes and events 

• Actively build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including industry partners, speakers, and sponsors. 

• Collaborate with relevant organisations to expand the reach and impact of IPS educational initiatives.

Offer the following experience: 

• A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (education, event management, healthcare, etc.). 

• Proven experience in education resources planning and management, ideally within a similar professional body or learned society.

• Excellent project management skills with attention to detail.

About this role

This role is 20 hours per week, worked part-time over 5 days Monday-Friday. Suggested working times are 10am-2pm however this can be flexible for the right candidate. The part-time salary for this role is £16,250 (£26,000 FTE for organisation 32 hours working week).

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a charity and creative social enterprise committed to the rehabilitation of people in prison, and post-release. Our innovative Open the Gate (OTG) programme at our Battersea Hub offers work experience, volunteering opportunities, accredited training, mentoring, and signposting support to participants/ Apprentices at any point on their resettlement journey.

About the role:

We are now looking for an experienced and dynamic Engagement and Support Officer (ESO) to join our team. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by people in contact with the criminal justice system and will work proactively to establish meaningful and sustainable cross-referral pathways with external agencies. They will nurture a professional, inclusive, and safe working environment; use their knowledge, insights, and expertise to support tangible outcomes for all Open The Gate participants; and develop the wider programme offer in line with our organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities:

1. Nurturing a professional working environment where Open The Gate Apprentices are supported to achieve their potential.

2. Building and maintaining referral partnerships with external agencies [including HMP resettlement teams, probation services, approved premises and community-based organisations supporting prison-leavers] to increase participant numbers and sustain engagement with Open the Gate.

3. Coordinating applications and referrals for prospective Apprentices, gathering relevant information for dissemination to the wider team.  

4. Working with colleagues in the Programmes team to develop risk management and support plans for each Apprentice, using information regarding offences, licence conditions and risk areas, liaising closing with the probation service and other agencies where relevant.

5. Ensuring timely, accurate, and safe recording of all information and personal data.

6. Case management of Apprentices, including action-planning and goal setting in consultation with the Workshops Manager, supporting Apprentices to achieve work-ready outcomes in an agreed period.

7. Providing day to day practical, pastoral, and sign-posting support to a caseload of Apprentices and providing ad-hoc support to graduate Apprentices when required.

8. Working with the wider team at Fine Cell Work to develop and coordinate a series of employability and creative wellbeing workshops for Apprentices.

9. Supporting small grant application processes on behalf of Apprentices.

10. Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with Fine Cell Work policy and procedure.

11. Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager with the delivery of the Service User Involvement Strategy and championing service user involvement across the organisation more broadly.

12. Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to recruit and deliver training to mentors and other volunteers in roles supporting Apprentices.

Working with the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to develop and enhance the Open the Gate mentor offer including as the first point of contact for mentors pre- and post- mentoring sessions. 

Knowledge and Skills for the role of Engagement and Support Officer:

Essential

• The ability to build rapport, establish trust, and work non-judgementally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
•  At least 3 years’ professional experience working with adults in contact with the criminal justice system, assessing needs and risks, and formulating support plans.
• Excellent organisational skills and an ability to manage competing priorities on a daily basis.
• Experience working alongside probation and other key workers to formulate risk management plans in line with licence conditions.
• Demonstrable experience of adult safeguarding and a proven ability to assess, manage, and effectively communicate risks and vulnerabilities.
• Demonstrable experience in seeking opportunities to increase referrals and build new referral pathways.
• A proven track record of case management, and experience ensuring all case records and caseload processes are clear and up to date.
• Experience in impact monitoring and evaluation and working to agreed targets and tangible outcomes, including supporting the writing of reports to Senior Managers.
• The ability to cope with the inherent challenges and demands of the role, maintaining well-being while effectively supporting Open The Gate Apprentices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to seek support when needed including accessing clinical supervision regularly.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development.

Desirable

• Up to date knowledge of housing support, the benefits system, barriers to employment and other challenges facing people post-release.

About the role

We are seeking a Dual Diagnosis Worker who has a specialism in complex mental health and substance misuse to join our team in Croydon. This is a residential service which provides specialist mental health, complex needs, and dual diagnosis support to our residents. You will utilise your previous experience and knowledge, and provide specialist support to those who have been diagnosed with mental ill health and have challenges with substance use. You will deliver evidence-based interventions based on holistic assessments to support personalised recovery, integration, and promotion of independent living skills.

Within this role, you will act as a specialist for comorbidity, supporting the team to achieve positive outcomes for our residents. Some of the duties may include:

• Undertake joint holistic assessments, risk assessments, care plans, and interventions to support harm reduction and minimisation.
• Set up realistic and flexible strengths-based support plans, working closely with colleagues and support teams to support and advise on interventions and approaches to meet individual needs.
• Help reduce episodes of crisis and assist residents/participants to access services which can offer alternatives to crisis support.
• Work closely with support staff and clinical teams to support and advise them on interventions and approaches to meet resident/participant comorbid, complex mental health and substance misuse needs.
• Support multi-disciplinary teams and the wider community teams with support, advice, signposting, and move on care planning. 

About you

We’re looking for someone who has specialist knowledge on how to support individuals with comorbid and complex needs, with previous experience in a similar role. We look at individual characteristics to be able to show resilience, solve challenges, and be proactive in your approach. You will have a passion for supporting people to achieve their personal goals, and achieve positive outcomes, this includes having the ability to engage with people who may be hard to reach and engage with. We further are looking for someone who has:

• An appropriate qualification which is relevant to the role which could include: National Diploma, Bachelors, or master’s in psychology, Dual Diagnosis, Substance Misuse or any relevant
• Previous experience in a similar role, providing holistic assessments and support for people experiencing mental health challenges
• Applied knowledge of the principles of risk assessment and risk management, particularly in relation to harm minimisation.
• A commitment to promoting recovery, harm reduction, and active involvement in care planning.
• Ability to apply relapse prevention models to promote sustained recovery and harm reduction.
