You Make It (YMI) is looking for an experienced Freelance Finance Manager to oversee our finance function and ensure strong financial management, reporting and controls across the organisation.

Working closely with our Founder CEO, Treasurer and team, you will play a vital role in maintaining YMI’s financial health, strengthening accountability and ensuring we remain funder-ready as we continue delivering life-changing programmes for young women.

This is an ongoing freelance role (approximately 15 hours per month), designed to sit alongside your other clients or commitments.

This role will design and secure a portfolio of national and local strategically aligned, market-relevant and impactful programmes which use arts, culture and creativity to achieve a positive impact on our target audiences. These programmes will empower the health, wellbeing, learning, social mobility and social connection of people supported by Age Exchange and Community Integrated Care. The role holder will play an essential role in leading the growth, reach and sustainability of Age Exchange by generating funding and commercial revenue and new partnerships.

• Win funding & partnerships that fuel our programmes and core costs—trusts & foundations, corporates/sponsorships, individual giving, and earned income.
• Build and manage a high-quality pipeline—prospect, cultivate, write compelling bids/proposals, negotiate, and steward partners.
• Collaborate across the delivery team—aligning with colleagues so proposed projects and tenders are fundable, impactful, and on-brand.
• Report outcomes & learn—own quarterly KPI reporting and iterate approaches to hit clear income and partnership targets.

Our ideal Candidate:​

• Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
• Proven success in bid writing and securing projects/tenders of £250k+.
• Strong experience in fundraising, commercial development, and project management within a funded environment.
• Creative thinker with the ability to design innovative programmes aligned to strategic objectives.
• Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, with experience engaging stakeholders at senior levels.
• Skilled communicator and presenter, able to craft compelling proposals and pitches.
• Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).
• Bring proven success in the arts or heritage sector (e.g., museums, galleries, performing arts, creative health, community arts) with a track record of securing grants and/or sponsorships.
• Are a confident storyteller and bid writer who can turn creative ideas into fundable, strategically aligned propositions.

Research Grants Officer

About the role

As a Research Grants Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the research funding cycle, from application and peer review through to award management and post‑award administration. You’ll work closely with the Research Grants Manager, internal teams, external experts, and funded researchers to maintain high standards of governance, transparency, and impact across all our research funding activities.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the development, implementation, and management of Macmillan’s research grants programme.
• Create, update, and publish key documentation for each funding round.
• Coordinate expert review panels, including scheduling, logistics, and budget oversight.
• Provide secretariat support for funding panels, including preparing papers, taking minutes, and compiling applicant feedback.

The Finance & Compliance Officer will typically report to Finance Manager.

Responsibilities include:

Financial Management & Accounting (UK charity context)

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with UK charity good practice and organisational financial policies.

• Manage the general ledger, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll journals, and bank transactions.

• Process payments in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholders (team members, suppliers, partners, consultants), ensuring appropriate approvals, documentation, and compliance with delegated authority.

• Record and monitor income and expenditure, ensuring accurate project coding and fund allocation.

• Prepare monthly journals including accruals, prepayments, deferred income and inter-fund adjustments.

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and full balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all control accounts are supported.

• Raise and process invoices where required (including consultant invoicing), and coordinate internal approval workflows for payment processing.

• Maintain and regularly update the medical insurance tracker and supplier payment tracker.

• Monitor and follow up on partnership (sub-grantee) agreements and payments, as well as programme consultancy trackers, ensuring financial accuracy and completeness.

• Support cashflow monitoring and short-term/medium-term cash forecasting; flag risks and timing issues proactively.

• Integrate monthly payroll journals into the accounting system and reconcile payroll control accounts.

• Support VAT preparation work and provide documentation for advisors

• Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Project Finance

• Support the Finance Manager with the preparation of annual organisational budgets and project budgets, including proposal costings and budget revisions as needed.

• Support with the preparation of management reporting packs for budget holders (actual vs budget vs forecast), with variance analysis and explanatory commentary.

• Support cross-departmental budget coordination to ensure compliance with donor agreements and funding conditions.

• Maintain and support the Finance Manager with project budget monitoring tools and monthly reforecasting, including burn rate analysis and scenario modelling.

• Assist the Finance manager in producing periodic financial reports for budget holders, including actuals vs budget vs forecast and key explanatory notes.

The Philanthropy Officer is an essential role within Amref UK's Supporter Engagement Team. It combines fundraising, supporter care, prospect research, event management and administration – with a focus on delivering our philanthropy strategy to increase unrestricted income. This role will be key to supporting the ongoing development of our volunteering programme and ensuring that the correct processes are followed, volunteers and schools/learning groups have the information they need, resourcing is at appropriate levels and rooms, and equipment is booked as needed. 

You will work as part of the Content, Learning and Engagement team, line managed by the Senior Volunteering Manager.

The role is offered on a one-year fixed term contract with Crystal Palace Park Trust. Any extension is subject to funding.

This role is funded by the Lottery Fund as part of the partnership project between Crystal Palace Park Trust and the London Borough of Bromley.
