Light Up Learning is a Scottish charity providing bespoke support for high school students. We are dedicated to igniting a love of learning in young people and transforming the nature of education in Scotland.

Our programme aims to address issues of unequal access to education and disengagement in the classroom by creating low-stress, supportive, and playful learning environments for young people who have experienced disadvantage. Through creative, one-to-one mentoring relationships, our team helps young people rediscover their curiosity, build confidence, and imagine a future they genuinely want to work towards.

We currently work in 12 schools in Lothian and Borders and are looking to grow and build new partnerships with other schools across Scotland. We want to reach more students, nurture their curiosity, and provide the resources they need to succeed. To do this, we need further funding and the newly-created role of Head of Fundraising will play a key part in achieving this growth.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to oversee all aspects of high-value income generation, primarily focussing on HNWIs, leading to a doubling of our income by 2030. This role will report directly to the Chair with a dotted line to our Founder, and will manage the relationship with the Consultant we have engaged to write grant applications. The role will be very hands-on, and the right candidate will thrive off working alongside a entrepreneurial and passionate team. You will be a self-starter with the hunger and curiosity to build activity and relationships, and make a strong personal impact.

The person we are looking for is self-motivated and highly organised and can take responsibility for the transactional processing of the charity’s finances along with your fellow Finance Officer, under the guidance of the Director of Finance and Resources.
 
There will be an opportunity to study for the AAT or another relevant financial qualification, with progression to providing support to produce financial information to trial balance.

Key responsibilities
 
Financial

• Undertake the processing of the purchase ledger function
• Ensure all stakeholders, internal and external, are paid promptly and accurately, and within the Charity’s payment terms
• Manage the finance mailbox
• Process all financial transactions relating to the charity’s bank accounts
• Undertake control accounts reconciliations
• Administration of the volunteer group funds
• Procurement of charity equipment
• Ensure financial controls are adhered to across the charity

In conjunction with the Director of Finance and Resources assist with:

• the preparation of the monthly management accounts and reporting to stakeholders
• the preparation of the annual budget setting and interim reforecasts as required

Work with the Director of Finance and Resources to improve, automate and streamline the charity’s financial processes and systems, including identifying and evaluating new systems where necessary and embedding finance into the charity's CRM

The Role

We’re looking for experienced, energetic and confident freelance facilitators to help us deliver our tried-and-tested activities — from team-building and orienteering to improv games, problem-solving challenges, debates, archery, and axe throwing. We don’t expect anyone to be experienced in all of these - every member of our team of freelancers has their own areas of expertise and choose to be deployed on particular activities that most suit their skills and experience.

You’ll be working with a diverse range of schools, from primary and prep schools, right through secondary to sixth forms, facilitating sessions to inspire teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership.

You’ll always be working on a day under the guidance of one of our Founder Directors, Tom and Alex. 

Important to know

We are looking for freelancers who may be available for work and who fit our ethos, values and activities to whom we can offer as and when it comes in. 

We couldn’t do what we do without our core team of trusted freelancers. We look after those we work with by offering regular training and observation opportunities so they can expand their repertoire. 

However, joining our pool of freelancers will not involve a fixed contract of employment or a guarantee of regular work. Our existing freelancers work with us anywhere between 3 - 15 days per/year. Such work offers very useful supplementary income alongside other roles at other organisations (or their own) rather than a core income. Our busiest times of year are:

September — where we deliver team building/bonding days for new year groups

May, June and July — where we deliver similar days but usually as part of school activity weeks

We anticipate further growth at these times, and also are looking to expand our offer to more indoor/lower cost days in the Autumn/Spring term. And to deliver these we will need more staff!

Responsibilities

• Facilitate pre-designed Hidden Leaders sessions and activities in schools

• Engage and motivate participants, creating an inclusive and supportive environment

• Brief, instruct, and ensure safety during practical activities

• Encourage reflection and discussion to link activities to personal and team development

• Adapt delivery style to suit different audiences, group sizes, and abilities

We need you to have…

• Significant experience facilitating group activities with young people (e.g. classroom teaching, team-building, outdoor education, public-speaking training, drama/improv, youth work)

• Confident communicator and able to deliver exceptionally engaging sessions to groups of up to 30 to all ages from KS2 to Sixth Form

• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable arriving at a school to help us set up at 8am, and be packing down with us afterwards

• A big sense of fun and joy in what you do - we don’t do dry

• The ability to relate to young people in a way that isn’t “teacherly” but at the same time firm and in-command

• Strong situational awareness and ability to manage group safety effectively

• Flexible, adaptable, and able to think on your feet to differentiate activities in the moment

• Willingness and ability to travel to different locations across the South East

• (For outdoor education experts): Outdoor activity instruction qualifications (e.g., Archery GB Leader / Outdoor First Aid / Lowland Leader)

Reporting to the CEO, we are seeking a Director of Income Generation to lead on securing income. This is an exciting role which will focus on: 

• maximising our unique portfolio of corporate supporters; further growing our Trust and Grants income, including building partnerships with like-minded charities; 
• building our events-based fundraising, including bespoke events; 
• looking for new areas for growth which could include developing a HNWI giving programme. 

This role sits within our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and will manage our Fundraising team. Previous experience of working in a youth charity is highly desirable. About the role:

The post holder will support Respect’s Head of Finance to deliver an efficient budget holder support service to Respect’s Deputy Director of the Drive Partnership. We're seeking an enthusiastic Education Coordinator to help shape the future of chemistry education.
 
With a focus on Northern Ireland, you'll lead regional initiatives, tailoring them to local needs and supporting teachers through workshops and online sessions. You'll build strong partnerships with local education authorities, schools, and teacher networks, and collaborate with national organisations to advance our education policy across the UK and Ireland. What we are looking for:

• A degree in science, preferably in the chemical sciences, or an equivalent qualification, together with evidence of working with schools, ideally with a teaching qualification.
• An understanding of school level, further and higher education and a breadth of knowledge of the education systems in the UK and Ireland together with a deep knowledge of the local curricula.
• Experience of stakeholder relationship management and an understanding of customer requirements, including those of: school teachers; FE teachers, HE academics and support staff; careers advisors; employers; governments and its agencies, and non-government bodies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a proven ability to write effectively for different audiences and deliver clear and engaging presentations both online and in-person.

Climate Catalyst is taking on a new project with the Clean Air Fund to apply our movement building and knowledge sharing expertise from Asia and Europe to an initiative designed to support cities and civil society organisations around the world to campaign for clean air.

About The Role

‎ 

This role is about designing and implementing strategies, tools and platforms that support shared learning and collaboration among organisations working towards cleaner air. Working closely with the Head of Learning and Innovation, you will lead a global needs assessment across multiple cities, which will inform the development of a training programme for movement building leads at the city level, with pilots of that approach in two cities. You will develop a knowledge sharing approach, movement building infrastructure, and tools to support sustained engagement. You will also contribute to producing learning products and co-delivering capacity building activities. This role combines strategic thinking and analysis with hands-on project management and learning product development. It is ideal for someone with an interest in global movement building efforts.

Conduct a needs assessment across 14 cities to understand the knowledge sharing and movement building needs of civil society organisations, including campaigners, think tanks, data science organisations, city officials, etc. working on air pollution around the world. (35%)

• Survey, interview and focus group discussion design, delivery and analysis

• Produce a report with an approach for knowledge sharing and movement building.

 Pilot a movement building project in two cities (35%)

• Co-design a movement building model in 2 pilot cities to foster a clean air movement. This will be a practical, replicable guide that defines the essential elements of a high-functioning, impactful CSO movement within a city. 

• Assess the cities’ civil society ecosystems’ gaps and leverage points and map the current landscape of civil society actors working on air quality in each of the 2 cities. This will include analysing their focus areas, strengths, gaps, levels of coordination, and alignment with local policy priorities. 

• Deliver facilitation support for 2 in-person and additional virtual civil society convenings. 

• Co-design a movement building training package, including a guide for future use with guidance on shared strategy, collaboration structures, mapping additional civil society organisations, and communication mechanisms.

Deliver a community of practice amongst a cluster of peer organisations to promote thematic and cross-regional knowledge sharing (20%)

• Produce 3 learning products related to themes that emerge from the needs assessment, providing organisations with suggested tactics and effective projects by their peers.

• Support the management of one community of practice and co-host one cross-city knowledge sharing meeting. 

• Support delivery of a knowledge sharing platform and means of communications.

Experience producing visual materials is a plus. Experience with narrative and/or messaging projects is also a plus.

4. Experience of leading and/or delivering creative campaign strategy and planning a plus, with a particular interest in digital campaign tactics and techniques. 

5. Exceptional project management, organisational, and administrative skills with a proven ability to independently manage multiple priorities and complex workflows. 

6. Strong understanding of learning, innovation, knowledge management, and facilitation.

Compensation + Benefits

• Pay is competitive in all hiring regions. The salary band for this role in USD is $70,000 - $82,000.

About the role:

This is a home based role that will include travel across England and Wales when delivering training. You will be working within a specific project that delivers learning externally to other organisations outside of VS. Your primary goal will be to design and deliver high quality learning interventions based on what our customers need.

As an External Trainer you will:

• Manage, coordinate and deliver professional, engaging and interactive training sessions to external clients using a range of facilitation methods, ensuring delivery aligns with agreed training objectives, materials and quality standards.
• Lead on the design and development of bespoke learning content to meet client needs and support strategic goals.
• Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining close relationships with external clients.
• Responsible for managing delegates, dealing with any issues that arise throughout the learning session. Ensure that all nationally directed learning is delivered in line with the approved materials and standards.
• Lead on the continuous improvement of training, using assessments and feedback to make recommendations for amendments. Review and update training content regularly to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

You will need:

• Experience of delivering training programmes using a variety of different methods e.g. face to face, virtual and one to one, managing delegates and issues that may arise
• Experience of designing and delivering training for adult learners, ideally within a commercial or client-facing environment
• Experience of delivering soft skills training and experiential learning activities
• Ability to develop a range of learning and development solutions that meet client priorities
• Experience of planning courses and evaluating outcomes
• A driving licence as this role does require frequent travel across England and Wales
