About you
You have a passion for nature conservation and want to see more scaled up and urgent global action for plants and fungi. You will have some level of botanical knowledge and experience in the global conservation or environment sector, with the ability to work cross-culturally and effectively engage with key stakeholder and partners. This will include working with our existing partners and those in the Global IPA network (GIPAN).
You will be able to demonstrate good programme development and management skills, have some knowledge of capacity building through e.g., training and knowledge and skill sharing, and can confidently build a programme of work that integrates locally led action into conservation activities.
This role offers the opportunity to develop and implement a programme of work that has a critical role in protecting and restoring wild plants and fungi and to promote sustainable and ethical conservation practices globally.
About the role
Plantlife pioneered the development of the Important Plant Area (IPA) criteria to identify the best sites of international significance for wild plant diversity – there are now 3,000 globally. These sites have rare and threatened plant species, exceptional botanical richness and threatened habitats. Once identified, IPAs help to target conservation actions and sustainable management of plants.
Plantlife has continued to be a proud advocate of the IPA programme and expanding the network of IPAs and increasing the delivery of management and actions at these sites are now key priorities of the Global Programme’s five-year plan. This has created an exciting opportunity to join the Global team in a new role – Global Important Plant Area Manager – to shape and oversee the strategic development of the IPA programme.
Working with the Head of Global, the postholder will be responsible for strengthening and expanding the IPA programme, building capacity (e.g., through training) and working with partners (e.g., Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) to increase the number of IPAs identified. The role will also help to support the global plan of delivering more conservation action across IPAs, focusing on a “whole of society” approach.

Overview
Since our establishment in 2017 many funders, community members, professional partners – not to mention mums and minis - have bought in to our vision and seen our project grow to a staff team that hovers around the 15, and a turnover well above £500k. Our success means that we are now looking to recruit to a new and vital role of director of operations. This critical role will work alongside the CEO to make sure that our ideas and ambitions are matched by sure-footed implementation, safe structures, and workable policies.
You will ensure efficiency, compliance, clarity, reporting and calm in the running of our fast-moving, multi-faceted grassroots charity. You will be the unwavering back-stop behind the exciting innovation, and the busy front-line. Your organisational skills and operational expertise will create and maintain a structure which is safe, sustainable, efficient and transparent - while being agile enough to allow our volunteers and staff to pivot when necessary in order to meet the ever-evolving needs of our mums and minis.

Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership

Skills & Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in charity operations, non-profit management, early years setting, or a related field.

- You will understand that structure creates safety, but too much could be stifling – you will be emotionally and socially aware enough to walk this line.

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the CEO, and - on occasion - the board of Trustees, working closely with Finance and Fundraising leads, Project managers, and external HR and H&S provider.

Role Purpose
The Operations Director is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of all operational aspects of Katherine Low Settlement. This role oversees the day-to-day operational leadership of the charity, ensuring that its systems, processes, and teams are aligned with strategic objectives and compliant with relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities
• To support the Senior Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager to reach or exceed the annual income target set, within the defined expenditure budget, through activities such as Challenge Events, World Child Cancer Special Events and Community Fundraising.
• In conjunction with the Individual Giving and Community Fundraising Manager (once in post), set activity budgets and work within them, accurately recording all income and expenditure.
• Manage the charity’s community fundraising programme including, but not limited to, London Marathon, DIY fundraising, and Outlanders group.
• Develop and lead on relationships with gamers to fundraise for World Child Cancer.
• Support the Senior Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager to manage the Ambassador group and delivery of special events.
• Lead on management of the annual Summer and Christmas Ambassador Quiz events.
• Support Senior Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager with corporate fundraising.
• Work with the Marketing Executive to promote our Events and Community activities.
• Work with the Marketing Executive to create content ideas to grow our engagement across digital platforms.
• Represent World Child Cancer at events and activities.
• Ensure all World Child Cancer fundraising activity adheres to GDPR and the Fundraising Regulator Code of Fundraising Practice.
• Deliver exceptional, timely supporter care at all times via phone, email and in person.
• Manage the supporter database – segmenting donors/ streamlining/ imports and exports, utilising the events tab, adding one off donations, adding regular donations, ensuring consent/gift aid statements are up to date, training team/ maintain accurate records on Raisers Edge.

• Demonstrable track record of fundraising from community, events, or individual fundraising.
• Proven track record of building strong, effective relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to communicate with supporters virtually, over the phone and in person.

About the Role

At Yorkshire Cancer Community, our vision is for everyone affected by cancer to have the best support possible. We are a patient-led charity, with a dedicated team of volunteers and staff who are passionate about helping anyone affected by cancer.
Working in partnership with West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance (WYHCA), we aim to help reduce cancer rates through our Cancer SMART project, which raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer, so people are better informed, attend screening and know where to go for help.
Our Patient VIEW project is dedicated to representing the voices of patients, carers and service users, ensuring they are central to decision-making processes within cancer care.

As manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring we reach our goals, by building relationships with other charities, organisations and diverse groups, recruiting volunteers, working with our board of trustees, working in partnership with the WYHCA, and line management of our two staff members – Patient VIEW coordinator (FT) and administrator (PT).

Location: Home based - the charity covers all of Yorkshire and the Humber but the main projects and focus are currently within West Yorkshire and Harrogate areas and the postholder will be expected to travel to meetings and events

Key Tasks
1. To engage, manage and supervise Cancer Champions for the delivery of the Cancer SMART programme with collaboration between Yorkshire Cancer Community and West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance.

You will be joining a supportive and ambitious Fundraising department as we embark on a new fundraising strategy (2025-2029), with a renewed focus on growing our supporter numbers alongside growing our income, so we can increase our impact for people with cystic fibrosis.
