We are seeking to appoint a full-time Events and Marketing Assistant to provide support for a range of events and marketing-related activities. This is a permanent post, subject to confirmation after a probationary period of 6 months. The post would be particularly suited to a recent events management or marketing graduate looking to develop a career in events management or in marketing for a charity or educational organisation.

The Role

The person appointed will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and work as part of a small team of staff responsible for events and marketing. The person will be involved in all aspects of the marketing and events team’s work including:

• Setup and support for the running of events for the Institute;
• Dealing with event enquiries on a day to day basis;
• Running online events including recording and editing of video recordings;
• Recording events using still photography and posting on the websites and social media;
• Updating and maintaining the Marketing and Events team documentation and databases;
• Creation of content and posting on the BIICL social media channels;
• Maintenance of the BIICL websites including creation and updating of content using the sites’ CMS;
• Production and editing of printed and digital materials for events and other marketing activity;
• Liaising with a range of stakeholders including members, event attendees, suppliers and partner organisations;
• Online research for targeting of BIICL events and courses;
• Ad hoc administrative support on events and marketing related tasks.

Person Specification

It is expected that the successful applicant will demonstrate and provide evidence of the following:

•  A degree or equivalent experience in event co-ordination or marketing;
• Experience of supporting events;
• Effective project management skills and good attention to detail;
• Strong administrative and organisational skills;
• A personable, presentable and articulate team member with the ability and willingness to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues;
• Good copywriting skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and succinctly;
•  An interest in the design of marketing communications;
• Highly proficient user of MS 365 and office programmes, social media platforms and Zoom / other video conferencing software;
• Knowledge of multi-media editing;
• Experience of Mailchimp, SogoSurvey, Adobe InDesign, or Canva would be a benefit.

• A solid understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice

As a Craft Operative for the LSE Region you will play an important role applying to help us improve, maintain, and preserve our wonderful network for our customers to enjoy today and into the future. This will involve undertaking the, refurbishment or repair of canal infrastructure including locks / bridges/ aqueducts / towpaths and associated equipment, working efficiently to defined safety /environmental and heritage standards at all times.

The post holders will be required to work an annualised hour’s system which includes working any 5 days out of 7 rota'd system including statutory holidays and weekends as well as being part of the on-call out of hours rota. Our Craft Operatives in the reactive team cover the whole of the LSE Region so you need to have your own transport and valid UK driving licence.

Contractually the role is based at Adelaide Docks, this role will involve regular travel across the London & South East region.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

As a Craft Operative for the LSE Region you will play an important role improving, maintaining and preserving our wonderful waterway network for our customers to enjoy by efficiently maintaining our locks and other assets along the local network in line with safety requirements and heritage standards. 

Responding to business needs, you will enhance the reputation of the network and support Canal & River Trust’s aims to improve safety; protecting the heritage and integrity of the inland waterway network.

Our Craft Operatives perform a unique role; fitting new lock gates as they are replaced, refurbishing or repairing existing lock gates and associated equipment, to ensure it is working efficiently & to defined standards. You will be working with specialist teams and experts in their field as our multi-disciplinary teams work together to improve our waterways and ensure our 200 year old assets can be enjoyed for years to come.

Key responsibilities: 

• Working outside, carry out maintenance and repairs works to the waterway infrastructure to ensure network availability is maximised. Repairs will often involve sensitive heritage or environment solutions which the role will be expected to be familiar with. In some instances, the operative will be expected to complete repairs to the highest standard utilising relevant skills and experience.
• Use Bricklayer expertise to undertake the manufacture & refurbishment within a timely manner, in accordance with defined standards and agreed programmes. 
• Operate a variety of machinery, plant, tools and other equipment in accordance with Canal & River Trust’s safety standards and where appropriate support in-house maintenance.
• Undertake general housekeeping of personal equipment, workshop equipment and workspace ensuring all are maintained to defined standards.
• Timely response to customers’ queries and requirements, including responding to emergencies.
• Ensure all equipment (PPE, plant, materials etc) is appropriate for the task.
• Operate regionally displaying the appropriate flexibility needed to deliver the nationally prioritised works programme. This will occasionally involve travelling further distances to undertake repair work.

About you

Operative skills are a minimum requirement.  Whilst it is also important that you can turn your hand to other skills which will be taught along the way, an understanding of, and high level of competence in certain disciplines are necessary.  You may have a background in the building trade, or from a specialist joinery background, where measuring, cutting and joining is all second nature to you. 

Skills/Qualifications/Experience:

• Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (or experience) e.g. City & Guilds Level II, NVQ Level II 
• Experience handling plant/equipment in group A eg lifting plant, chainsaw, hand power tools.
• Experience of working within relevant discipline eg Bricklaying, Carpentry, etc. 
• Full Valid UK Driving Licence - you will need to be able to respond across the region and get to where the team need you.

As Mass Participation Events Officer (Challenge Events Officer), you will play a key role in engaging supporters to take part in exciting fundraising Challenge Events, from the London Marathon to cycle events and adrenaline fuelled challenges like a sky-dive or abseil, raising vital funds for disabled children and young people. Job Summary
The Finance Business Partner in Volunteering is responsible for providing the first line of support and assistance with the development of financial plans, analysis of the financial performance and forecasts of the Adult Volunteering area, in order to provide high quality business insight to both support and influence strategic decision making by St John’s management teams. They will be a key member of the Financial Planning and Insight team to ensure delivery of the annual three-year budgeting process, that is aligned to strategic operational plans. This role will not only look after the Adult Volunteering part of the organisation but support some other overheads/areas within the organisation.

About You
You are a fully qualified professional accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA). Ideally you have gained experience in the charity sector and large complex organisations. You can demonstrate previous experience in a finance business partner role with a track record of supporting the end-to-end processes for in-year forecasts and annual budgets and three-year plans that are aligned to business strategy. You have significant experience in managing the day-to-day, monthly and annual production of management accounting processes. To be successful you can demonstrate excellent skills in influencing with confidence and gravitas to respectfully challenge. You are naturally curious with a genuine interest in change and technology. You take personal ownership and possess a flexible 'can do' mind set and you are able to build and maintain effective networks both internally and externally.

About the Role

• Deliver high quality business and financial analysis, with detailed outcomes and benefits, to identify and present coherent rationales for change, to support continued coordinated, consistent and effective delivery of services across St John
• Provide impactful and effective finance business partnering to St John Budget Holders, the Senior Management and Executive Teams
• Work with the relevant stakeholders, to timetable in the production of the charity’s monthly management accounts and the annual budgeting and in-year forecasting process that is the aligned to business plans

What you’ll be doing:

As COO, you will play a critical leadership role in the strategic and operational success of LtL. You will work closely with the CEO and the management team to deliver the charity’s vision, overseeing day-to-day project delivery across the UK. You will take the lead for LtL H&S and Safeguarding responsibility alongside deputising for the CEO. It is essential you are happy to and would enjoy frequent travel across the UK.

 

Key Responsibilities

· Operational Leadership.

· Drive operational excellence and innovation in the charity’s systems, processes, and project infrastructure.

· Work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to translate strategic and project plans into operational delivery.

· Attend and contribute to the planning of board meetings.

· Deputise as CEO.

Project Management

· Oversee the delivery of multiple, complex projects, in all four home nations, ensuring timelines, budgets, and outcomes are met, and line manage project managers.

· Work on national programme implementation, including government contracts, charitable grants, and corporate-funded initiatives.

· Develop and manage project delivery plans, risk registers, evaluation processes, and resource allocation, health & safety, and safeguarding.

· Support the CEO and Finance Manager in budget planning, financial forecasting, and reporting for projects.

· Ensure projects are run within guidelines and legal responsibilities, including data protection, GDPR, health and safety, and charity governance.

· Act as the operational safeguarding lead, working closely with the charity’s Designated Safeguarding Leads to embed best practice in all areas of delivery.

· Work with the CEO to ensure safeguarding policies are robust, understood by all staff partners and network, and adhered to in all operational activities.

· Work with the CEO on contract negotiation and management.

Systems and Operational Development

· Lead the development and improvement of internal systems and processes to support efficient, effective, and collaborative working across the charity.

· Oversee the use and optimisation of IT and digital tools for internal communication and project coordination.

· Embed a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring systems are user-friendly, fit for purpose, and compliant with data protection and other regulations.

People and Culture

· Line manage project managers across the UK, fostering a positive and values-led organisational culture rooted in inclusion, equity, and safeguarding.

· Coordinate leadership and professional development for staff, partners and networks.

· Champion true diversity, equity, and inclusion across all operational activities.

Stakeholder and Partnership Management

· Act as a senior representative for LtL at external meetings, events, and with funders or partners.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, local authorities, funders, and delivery partners.

· Represent LtL in national forums, working groups, and networks relevant to education and the environment.

Travel

· Regular travel across the UK to support project delivery, engage with stakeholders, and lead regional teams with occasional international travel.

· Regular overnight stays required.

What you need

Essential

· Proven experience in a senior operational role, preferably within the charity, education, or environmental sector.

· Track record of successfully managing complex, multi-partner projects at a national or regional scale.

· One or both of Safeguarding and Health & Safety training qualifications.

· Excellent leadership, line management, and team development skills.

· Outstanding project management skills including budgeting, planning, evaluation, and reporting.

· Strong understanding of governance, safeguarding, and risk management in a not-for-profit context.

· Embody LtL friendly and inclusive culture of support and kindness.

· Ability to influence and inspire with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the UK and occasionally internationally.

Desirable

· Knowledge of outdoor learning, environmental education, or play-based pedagogy.

· Experience of working with schools or in the education sector.

· Familiarity with charity finance and CRM systems.

· Qualification in project management (e.g. Prince2, Agile, or similar).

What will I be doing?

• Work in partnership with the Associate Director of Philanthropy to spearhead a new philanthropic initiative to raise seven and eight figure gifts for children and young people's cancer research.

• Manage a portfolio of prospects with a primary focus on qualifying prospects and developing the engagement and stewardship of prospects through the full life cycle of giving and renewal. Ensure consistent pipeline movement and contribution of prospects both through their giving as well as helping to build CRUK's donor pipeline.

• Achieve agreed fundraising income and prospect cultivation targets and provide regular reporting and metrics against goals.

• Lead the development of the Wealth Advisors and Intermediaries strategy and engagement plan working in partnership with CRUK stakeholders.

• Partner with the CRUK Leadership, Chairman, Trustees, as well as scientists, Philanthropy colleagues to develop and implement strategies for gifts of £1M+; help the development and supporting the management of volunteer leaders committed to advancing CRUK philanthropy; guide discussions with senior leadership on prospect strategy;

• Own, develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; including academics and researchers, institutional leaders, volunteer leaders, and writing briefings and coordinating engagement that will lead to gifts;

• Work closely with internal colleagues to coordinate engagement with CRUK funded scientists and leadership develop proposals and propositions.

Job Purpose: 

Volunteering Matters are partnering with Active Suffolk to recruit  6 Community Connectors to work in the following areas of Ipswich: 

• 2 x Whitton 

• 1 x Gainsborough

• 1 x Belstead Hills 

The ideal candidates will have strong local knowledge of the area and preferably, live within the community they are assigned to. In this role, you will have conversations with local residents (aged 18+) to capture lived experience around barriers, motivations, perceptions of being physically active in the local community. You must be a confident communicator and able to work off your own initiative.

The information collected will be shared with project partners and local stakeholders to guide further learning and community development, with the goal of securing future funding for further investment in these areas. 

Responsibilities 

• Identify, plan and create opportunities to have conversations with local residents around being physically active in the local community

• Identify community needs – gather information from local residents on what they value the most, the challenges they face, and what services or initiatives could benefit them. This could be done through informal conversations, community meetings, surveys 

• Share ideas with the local community and project partners/ stakeholders 

• Signpost to information and support for residents wanting to get more involved with their local community 

• Build relationships and networks locally to promote and create opportunities for conversations. 

• Conduct conversations safely and effectively in a range of settings (eg cafes, outside local schools, community events etc) to reach a diverse range of local residents 

• Participate in regular team meetings to support learning, problem solving and collaboration 

• Work within agreed budgets and utilise community resources and venues to undertake conversations
