About Access Academia
Access Academia is the charitable umbrella which was created out of the creation of the student-led publication, the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice. When Journal of Intersectional Social Justice (JISJ) was created, there were not any expectations for the project to be any more than that: a student-led academic publication. However, as it rolled on, attention for the project widened and it began to cover other topics and get involved in other realms of knowledge sharing, activism, and content creation. The creation of the seminal Access Series on the Intersections blog springboarded the idea for the JISJ to turn into something much more than a simple academic publication. Now as we have restructured the JISJ into Access Academia, we are finalising our official registration as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in the UK.
Our core purpose is to Make Academia More Accessible. We plan to accomplish this by many different avenues, as obviously it is a very wide-ranging goal! The main ways we plan to do this are through encouraging Open Access academia and knowledge sharing through the Access Series, expanding the themes covered on Intersections with additions such as Mental Health Mondays and Colonialism in Subject, creating accessible content across our social media platforms which encourages truthful and accurate knowledge sharing and activism, running research events to encourage students to publish and interact with academia, covering inside stories of academia, running student engagement programmes to try and make academia less of an Ivory Tower, and much more!
What is a Volunteership?
A volunteership is a unique hybrid opportunity that combines elements of volunteering and interning. Participants commit to working with a charity or nonprofit organization for a specified period of time, fulfilling a set of responsibilities and expectations. In return, they gain valuable experience, receive a letter of recommendation, and are offered LinkedIn endorsements. As a Housing Rights Support Volunteer, you will be an invaluable part of the Manchester team supporting the Manchester Hub to deliver frontline services. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference to the individuals we support. Main Tasks include

Triaging clients: You will help Housing Rights Workers to assess the needs of clients who contact us for help. This will involve listening to their concerns and gathering information about their situation.

Input client data: You will help to keep our client database up to date by inputting client data into our CRM system.

Engage with casework clients: You will work with the Housing Rights Worker to engage with clients who are receiving casework support at outreach and in the office. This may involve making catch-up calls, helping them to fill out forms, or providing other practical support.

Carry out support tasks: You will help the Housing Rights Worker to carry out support tasks such as housing and welfare fund applications. This may involve researching options, filling out forms and calling on behalf of clients.

Research and reporting: You will help the housing rights worker to research housing issues and to prepare reports on our work. This may involve gathering data, conducting interviews, or analyzing information.

You can make a difference…Age UK Wandsworth is a small, local, independent charity that has been working with older people in the area since 1963. We rely on your support to keep serving the older residents with in the Wamdsworth community. We have a dedicated team of experienced staff and a large network of dedicated local volunteers. Our aim is to enable everyone to age well in Wandsworth. We would love your help to be able to continue to support older Wandsworth residents.
Our Be-a-Friend service is one of our longest running services, matching people over 65, who live alone and have limited social contact, with a friendly local volunteer with similar hobbies and interests. The volunteer and their new friend set up a suitable time for them to meet each week for a chat and a cup of tea, which could be during the day, in the evening on the way home from work or even on the weekends . If you would prefer to volunteer from home, you can also be matched with an older person for telephone befriending. For many of our matched pairs, this is the beginning of a firm friendship.
Befriending Plus
Befriending Plus is an extended version of the Be-a-Friend programme, for individulas needing help with life admin and small tasks as well as companionship. For Befriending Plus pairs, time spent together can include helping to use a phone or tablet, helping the client to organise their file, going out for a coffee or popping to the post office together. This support can help older people to stay independent at home for longer, as well as increasing their confidence to do these tasks when the volunteer is not there.

White Ribbon Alliance UK is an intersectional feminist charity working to end gender-based violence and advance gender equity in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We focus especially on marginalised and underrepresented communities.
We enable access to unbiased, evidence-based education, resources, and support for women, girls, and trans individuals. Our work influences healthcare professionals, hospital systems, policy makers, and the wider public to centre the human rights of women, girls, trans men, intersex, and non-binary people throughout the lifecycle of their sexual health needs.
We do this through research, community-led advocacy, training, and systems change. All of our programmes and campaigns are grounded in intersectional feminist values and led by lived experience.
About the Role
We’re launching a focused, short-term project to clear a critical backlog of internal admin and system updates—and we need a small team of skilled volunteers to make it happen.
This is a time-limited support project to help the charity reorganise, document, and streamline the core internal tools that underpin our delivery of training, advocacy, fundraising, and strategy. You’ll be working directly with the Movement Director to tackle key operational issues: outdated records, scattered files, undocumented workflows, and missing policy processes.
It’s not flashy work—but it’s mission critical. Completing this project will allow us to scale up our training programme, strengthen our policy influence, and stay accountable to funders, partners, and the people we serve.
We’re asking for a commitment of at least 4 hours per week for up to 3 months. After this project, volunteers will have the option to continue with us in new roles—whether in research, advocacy, creative campaigns, or ongoing admin support.

OneSpirit Interfaith Foundation was established as an educational charity in 2003. Our aim is to develop spiritual awareness and to support people of all faiths, and none, by delivering a range of training programmes that allow open-hearted adults to serve their chosen communities through Ministry, Spiritual Counselling and in supporting life’s transitions. We are seeking new trustees, with a focus on marketing and/or legal experience, with a commitment to the vision and purpose of the organisation to join our board. Trustees are appointed for a term of 4 years and are essential to the progress and growth of our organisation.

Ideally, you will have experience working in a not-for-profit organisation and will be passionate about spiritual life and faith-freedom. We would particularly love to hear from anyone with experience of Human Resources, Adult Education, Financial Management, Fundraising, Legal, and IT.
Formal trustee meetings take place with senior staff quarterly, and we hold up to nine trustee-only meetings annually. To ensure our work is collaborative, we also have an annual two-day gathering of trustees and the wider leadership team. All trustees are volunteers, with expenses available for travel to and from meetings and other incidental expenses where applicable. Please note that meetings are currently being held via Zoom.

About Access Academia
Access Academia is the charitable umbrella which was created out of the creation of the student-led publication, the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice. When Journal of Intersectional Social Justice (JISJ) was created, there were not any expectations for the project to be any more than that: a student-led academic publication. However, as it rolled on, attention for the project widened and it began to cover other topics and get involved in other realms of knowledge sharing, activism, and content creation. The creation of the seminal Access Series on the Intersections blog springboarded the idea for the JISJ to turn into something much more than a simple academic publication. Now as we have restructured the JISJ into Access Academia, we are finalising our official registration as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in the UK.
Our core purpose is to Make Academia More Accessible. We plan to accomplish this by many different avenues, as obviously it is a very wide-ranging goal! The main ways we plan to do this are through encouraging Open Access academia and knowledge sharing through the Access Series, expanding the themes covered on Intersections with additions such as Mental Health Mondays and Colonialism in Subject, creating accessible content across our social media platforms which encourages truthful and accurate knowledge sharing and activism, running research events to encourage students to publish and interact with academia, covering inside stories of academia, running student engagement programmes to try and make academia less of an Ivory Tower, and much more!
What is a Volunteership?
A volunteership is a unique hybrid opportunity that combines elements of volunteering and interning. Tafara Wellness Initiative

Africa has a serious mental health issue that has to be addressed right away as the continent has the highest suicide rate in the world, estimated at 11.2 per 100,000 people, despite a moderate reduction over the past ten years (far above the global average of 9.0 per 100,000). Part of the mental health emergency is due to the AIDS epidemic, widespread poverty, and a lack of mental health resources and infrastructure. Providing mental health is essential for sustainable development as it enables individuals to pursue education, maintain employment and contribute positively to their communities. For women and children specifically, better mental health can lead to improved family dynamics, increased school attendance, and greater economic participation.
