The role 

Sustrans is the UK’s leading active travel organisation, working to make it possible for people across society to walk, wheel and cycle.  We have a new strategy for the next five years, a key strand of which is to unlock active travel in new housing developments, and we are recruiting a Head of New Developments to lead this work.

This is a new position in which you will draw on your experience in the housing delivery sector to grow Sustrans’ contribution to the creation of new communities that have active mobility at their heart.  As well as leading our influencing work aimed at organisations in housing delivery, you will develop and promote an offer to partners, drawing on Sustrans’ existing infrastructure, behaviour change and advisory services.  You will connect with, inform and inspire professionals and decision makers involved in delivering new homes to adopt the actions required to increase active travel in their developments.  Through collaboration with our Commercial team and subject experts across Sustrans, you will develop a pipeline of funded work from public, private and third sector organisations, ultimately enabling more households to walk, wheel or cycle for their day-to-day journeys.

The role can be based in any Sustrans office and will involve frequent in-person meetings and site visits, particularly (but not exclusively) in the Midlands and South of England. 

About you 

You’ll have significant experience contributing to the delivery of new developments through work for or with organisations such as developers, housing providers, consultancies, local authorities or government.  We’re looking for applicants with a professional network in housing delivery, and significant experience securing new commissions from and/or influencing organisations involved in delivering new developments.  You’ll have a strong understanding of the development process, including the spatial planning system, and of the roles of the parties involved in delivering new developments, the power dynamics between them, and the opportunities and appetite each has for taking action to increase active travel.  Naturally, you’ll have deep knowledge of the challenges, opportunities and hot topics in housing delivery – for new towns, urban extensions and urban intensification schemes.

You’ll have exceptional external-facing leadership skills, and be a strategic, creative thinker, able to solve problems and convert new ideas into practical actions.  Your outstanding communication skills will enable you to engage with stakeholders at a senior level, including on contentious subjects and on high-profile projects.  You’ll have strong business acumen to secure new commissions and deliver effectively for clients, and the skills to influence decision-makers.

You’ll have experience of engaging meaningfully with communities to ensure that new developments respond to the challenges and aspirations of local residents and stakeholders.  And you’ll have good knowledge of how active travel can be embedded into new developments to maximise the number of routine journeys that are walked, wheeled or cycled.

Purpose of the post

Purpose of Role

As Senior Fundraising Campaigns Project Manager you will take a key role in the planning and delivery of Comic Relief’s fundraising campaigns, developing project management best practices, managing project managers, and ensure the overarching planning, management and coordination of projects. The majority of projects will be related to fundraising activity but on occasion could also include other projects for our funding team, partnerships team and production team. The role will work with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure planning processes, project governance and reporting is developed and embedded into all fundraising activity, primarily as it relates to Comic Relief’s fundraising campaigns. 

Key responsibilities:

· Work with the Head of Campaign Strategy and Planning to track a portfolio of projects, taking on the project management responsibility for select projects, primarily Comic Relief’s fundraising campaigns (managing multiple projects at a time) 

· Develop project management best practice, evolving methods as needs arise. Ensure practices are followed across the project management team 

· Manage projects across a full project lifecycle, including project briefing, scoping, set up, governance, planning, task management, communication, coordination and tracking and reporting 

· Lead key strategic projects, including for large fundraising campaigns

The Role

As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring all charitable income and expenditure, financial forecasting, producing management accounts, annual financial accounts, and maintaining effective control systems. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work on strategic projects such as developing our financial practice and policies, grant reconciliation and forecasting.

The successful candidate will have charity accounting experience and at least qualified by experience in charity accounting. In addition to the relevant technical skills, we are looking for someone who is committed to our mission, takes a proactive approach, is excited to support our responsive, dynamic organisation to develop and grow, and has excellent people skills to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues.

Whilst this is a remote role, some occasional travel (approx 6-10 times per year) to London and the South East for meetings and get togethers will be expected.

Key Responsibilities

Day to Day Financial transactions 

• Accounts Receivable

Financial Control

• Ensure financial controls and the integrity of the financial records are maintained

• Complete month end processes and prepare management accounts, KPIs and commentaries on a timely basis

• Work with the CEO and Executive Director to prepare budgets and forecasts

• Monitor performance against project specific and organisational budgets throughout the financial year

Secretariat Duties

• Preparation of papers for, attendance at, quarterly Board meetings

• Arranging and minuting Quarterly Board meetings, 

Supporting the organisation

• Business planning including tracking multi-year grant commitments and understanding the balance of reserves after future year income and grant commitments

• Support Fundraising with donor reporting requirements, reconciliation of income received and reviewing of income against budget and forecast

• Contribute to strategic projects and funding bids.

Audit and Taxation

• Lead the relationship with the auditors, ensuring that the audit is delivered on schedule and all statutory filings are made on time.

• Responsible for the preparation of statutory accounts and supporting schedules.

• Liaise with tax advisors to ensure compliance.

• Complete quarterly VAT returns and Gift Aid returns.

Treasury

•  Lead in the management of bank accounts and deposits.

The salary is £38,000 FTE pro rata, for 21 hours per week, with 17 days annual leave including bank holidays.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for a dynamic finance professional, eager to make a difference. We need someone as keen to get stuck in with the day to day administrative aspects of the role, as with helping us lead the organisation through strategic planning and growth. 

You have experience in effectively managing finances in a charity setting and can manage your own time effectively with great motivation. You are able to communicate effectively with colleagues, requesting information and presenting findings in a clear and approachable manner. 

Ideally, you combine the professionalism of the corporate world with the heart of a grassroots movement, directly contributing to the impact of this fast-paced, responsive organisation.

Essential

• Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of UK Charity SORP, charity sector financial practices and preparing statutory accounts

• Qualified by experience or part qualified CIMA, ACCA, ACA 

• Experience of preparing and managing an audit process

• A critical eye for reviewing accounting transactions and ensuring accuracy

• Strong attention to detail with a clear and diligent working approach

• Experience of VAT within a charity context

• Excellent IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Office; in particular great Excel skills

About the role

The post-holder will lead a team of advocates working with adults and young people across NHS and private hospitals and the local community.

You will be required to provide line management support, be the point of contact for our stakeholders and ensure high quality delivery of our advocacy contracts.

Key responsibilities

î  Lead the delivery of assigned advocacy services actively encouraging your team to contribute to service planning, quality improvement and development.

The Training Lead - Projects & DFTP (Digital First Transformation Programme) will design, develop and deliver training strategies and plans that successfully support and empower stakeholders to adopt new systems, products, processes and ways of working that align to the MHFA England strategy. The postholder will provide business partnering support to all directorates, working with directors, strategic leads, business SMEs and external stakeholders to identify training needs that will lead to high levels of change readiness and adoption. The central focus will be the implementation of MHFA England’s Digital First Transformation Programme.

Working closely with the Head of People, Wellbeing & Equity and the wider People team and covering for each other as needed, this role will lead on allocated projects pertaining to organisational and individual learning. The Senior Strategic Projects Manager will implement successful strategies for strategic fundraising projects and campaigns. Reporting to the Director of Development and working with the Major Gifts, Individual Giving and Corporate Partnerships teams, you will be responsible for supporting solicitation campaigns of principal gifts and ensuring delivery of first-class stewardship of donors. The selected candidate will have a personal track record in fundraising and ideally working with senior colleagues to secure significant gifts of £500,000 or more. You will have demonstrable success in stewardship and a successful track record of developing and maintaining a network of contacts. Ideally, the best person for this job will have proven experience of managing complex and nuanced donor relationships which require a bespoke approach and a high level of judgment.
