Trees and Woodland Operations and Strategy Manager– The Mersey Forest team, employed by Cheshire West & Chester Council

Cheshire West & Chester Council invites applications for the crucial Trees and Woodland Operations and Strategy Manager position within the Mersey Forest Team. This role is instrumental in advancing our landowner engagement and support services across the Mersey Forest area, in alignment with our long-term strategic plan, to create well-wooded landscapes that benefit people, nature, and a thriving economy.

The Mersey Forest, established in 1991, is a growing network of woodlands and green spaces across Cheshire and Merseyside. Over the past three decades, more than 10 million trees have been planted, transforming the landscape and providing numerous environmental, economic, and social benefits. This initiative has been at the forefront of promoting biodiversity, community engagement, and enhancing the well-being of residents, embodying a long-term vision for urban and rural regeneration. The Trees and Woodland Operations and Strategy Manager will play a critical role in continuing this legacy, contributing to climate adaptation efforts, and showcasing the value of our natural environment to people, nature and the economy, whilst championing the role that we all must play in protecting the natural environment, nurturing a wood culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the development, execution and financial management of the annual Mersey Forest woodland establishment and Biodiversity Net Gain Programmes, developing and managing the delivery of a multi-year pipeline of projects
• Assist in formulating and implementing woodland management plans to uphold sustainable woodland management and conservation practices.
• Provide expert advice to local authorities, landowners, and other stakeholders on woodland establishment, management, and conservation, fostering collaborative relationships.
• Lead an annual multi-million-pound programme of Mersey Forest partnership planting schemes across the Mersey Forest area, ensuring compliance with the UK Forestry Standard and other regulatory guidelines. This includes leading and managing the woodland advisors, operations team and ecologist.
• Work closely with the Mersey Forest Director and various stakeholders, including the Forestry Commission and Natural England, to ensure clarity on the scale of sites requiring regulatory approval.

This position operates within a fully agile working framework, with a predominantly home-based working arrangement and an office base at Risley Moss, Warrington. The role of Trees and Woodland Operations and Strategy Manager presents a significant opportunity for a seasoned professional to contribute to one of the largest natural environment programmes in England, playing a leadership role at the local, regional and national levels.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Fund as we expand the UK Portfolio to meet our ambitions in delivering the strategy. We're looking for two people to join the UK Portfolio Team as Heads of Funding, leading a team of just under 40.

The UK Portfolio supports the ambitions and potential of communities across the UK.We focus on scaling projects with a UK-wide benefit, through significant investments, which enable systems-level change for communities. Our funding is intended to complement the work of other country portfolios: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

As one of four Heads of Funding in UK Portfolio you will oversee all aspects of our work and ensure the team is resourced and able to deliver operationally. Heads of Funding are responsible for ensuring our programmes are designed and delivered to the scope, standard and deadlines required and will lead on specific strategic areas and relationships inside and outside the Fund. Heads of Funding are responsible for ensuring an understanding of the external policy, practice and funding context from across the UK is reflected in our delivery. You will provide leadership for the team, supporting the work of the Portfolio Managers.

We are currently evolving our UK Portfolio funding offers and  programmes in response to the strategy, developing a partnerships offer, and how we are more than a funder through our support to communities across the UK.

All Heads of will lead on a combination of strategic and operational priorities and the roles will involve a variety of responsibilities including:

• Overseeing up to £50m of grant commitments each year ensuring compliance with our operational and governance policies and requirements
• Lead one of the community-led missions in relation to the UK Portfolio’s funding offer
• Lead the strategic development and direction of a combination of our funding programmes and partnership approach
• Responsible for stakeholder management, both internally and externally
• Ensure learning and impact of our work is shared appropriately and informs our practice
• Lead engagement with our decision making Panels, Committees and Board
• Team leadership including culture, resource planning and team development
• Fund wide leadership either relating to one of the missions or as part of cross Fund priorities

You will need to work closely with the other Heads of Funding and each day will be a blend of operational and strategic work, stakeholder engagement, team leadership with lots of opportunities to collaborate with others across the Fund.

We are looking for ambitious, creative and passionate people with experience of the funding environment and brokering partnerships. Excellent leadership and collaboration skills will be essential in building relationships at all levels, from senior management to external stakeholders and funding colleagues across the Fund. You’ll have a keen understanding of the nuances of working within a public body, and a deep commitment to ensuring we are delivering impact through our current funding portfolio whilst also looking to the future and developing new funding initiatives and ways of working to meet our 2030 vision.

Our expectations for this new role are high.

We are looking for an individual who will ensure that the effective day-to-day operations and communications of London CLT run smoothly. Providing vital support across administration, governance, HR and project delivery, acting as a central point of contact for London CLT and taking ownership of our communications strategy, developing an annual communications plan and producing well-targeted, engaging content and communications for members and other priority audiences.

You will bring strong experience in operations, office management, administration and communications, ideally in the non-profit or social enterprise sector, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and feel confident with IT and Office systems.

Our Community Organiser plays a crucial role in contributing to our ongoing Permanent, Safe Homes Now campaign, which aims to set a precedent for housing reform nationwide. Our mission is to drive meaningful change and empower communities facing social injustice across the UK.

As part of our team, you'll contribute to expanding and strengthening PEACH's membership and influence. This involves planning and executing strategic campaigns collaboratively, which aim to address key issues our members face. Militaries are major contributors to the climate crisis but it remains unclear how large their greenhouse gas emissions are because reporting under domestic and international frameworks is often voluntary or incomplete.

Since 2021, CEOBS and our international network of academic and civil society partners have played an important role in drawing attention to this data gap. Our Military Emissions Gap project works to communicate the scale of the reporting gap, to mainstream the topic in climate and military spaces, and to help create the conditions whereby the emissions from military activities and armed conflicts are properly documented and understood. We work with a wide range of stakeholders, from militaries, academia and the media, to policy makers and peace groups.

Research is vital to the project, underpinning all of our advocacy and awareness-raising activities and, thanks to recent grant funding we are now in a position to create a dedicated post for the project.

The role

You will work with our Climate Advocacy Coordinator, Director and academic partners to produce and contribute to unique research on military and conflict emissions, military-related climate impacts, and comparative studies on civil mitigation and decarbonisation strategies. The position is an excellent opportunity for an inquisitive, creative and conscientious environmental professional, with sound climate literacy and experience in carbon accounting, environmental reporting standards, and ESG policies and performance.

Core responsibilities

• Monitoring the rapidly evolving landscape of military climate mitigation strategies and reporting.

• Keeping up-to-date with emerging good practice on carbon and environmental reporting standards.

• Identifying research opportunities and generating and implementing research projects, both independently and in collaboration with partners.

Carriers of Hope is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to lead the logistics and practical support side of our work. This is a key leadership role, responsible for making sure that essential donated goods—food, clothing, furniture, and baby items—are received, organised, and distributed efficiently to the refugee and migrant families we support across Coventry.

You’ll oversee multiple projects, manage a committed team of staff and volunteers, and help shape the systems that make our work possible. From running our warehouse and coordinating van deliveries, to leading the House to Home furniture scheme, this is a hands-on, people-focused role with real impact.

We're looking for someone who brings strong coordination and problem-solving skills, has experience in logistics or operations, and is confident leading a team in a fast-moving environment. You’ll also play a key role in embedding sustainability into everything we do. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.

THE ROLE

Reporting to our Programme Director, you'll be the driving force behind our snowsports and life-skills programmes across the North West region. You'll be:

• Planning and delivering programmes that blend snowsports with essential life skills, qualifications, mental health support, apprenticeships and pathways to employment in the snowsports industry and beyond.
• Working directly with unserved young people – those who face the biggest barriers.
• Leading a passionate team of apprentices, youth volunteers and staff.
• Building partnerships with youth projects and community organisations to reach even more young people across the region.
• Developing innovative approaches that put Snow Camp at the forefront of youth development.

Finance Business Partner | Interim | £500 - £530 per day (Umbrella) | Birmingham | 6 months +

For the largest infrastructure project in Europe, we are recruiting an interim Finance Business Partner to support a large JV programme. This role will provide assurance and challenge for Area Delivery Managers (and teams) regarding project finance management, forecasting and project budgets. This role will contribute to the strategic development of the organisation by defining and implementing accounting policies, financial systems, controls, processes, and reports, engaging with stakeholders across this £1bn+ budget area.

Main Duties:

• Review and financial endorsement of change and investment papers, challenging risks, opportunities ensuring project impacts are clearly identified and costs recorded
• Provide assurance to Delivery Director that reported expenditure and contract payments are robust
• Development of policies and reporting and planning development. Provide guidance on IFRS accounting treatment of transactions, liaise with Audit as required
• Oversee month end financial accounts close and prepare accounts and plan for year-end audit.
• Provide budget variance commentary and review and assure Programme Board packs
• Review and challenge forecasts and monitor against Spending Review funding
• Work with JV Contractor Finance leads to improve Actual Cost of Work Performed and cash flow data
• Develop cashflow forecast reporting and challenge supply chain submissions
• Support and maintain business planning and forecasting process, working with Area Delivery Directors that data is robust
• Support the Delivery Directors in budget management
• Provide workforce actual costs and forecast information to inform programme cost estimates
• Liaise with Construction Supply Chain Finance, Project Managers, Commercial Managers, Planning and Cost Managers and Project Engineers

Person Specification:

• CCAB qualified with proven post-qualification experience within Project Accounting.
• Ability to interpret project information and determine IFRS treatment
• Experience in business planning, forecasting, business partnering and corporate finance
• Experience in providing financial information to inform project decisions and cost, schedule, and quality consequences

The Head of Media is responsible for the Spokesperson Network and helping people in NEON’s networks make the most of media opportunities. They lead on strategy, developing high-level media contacts and managing staff associated with the programme. 

You will be someone who knows how to land stories and spokespeople in the media, capitalising on media and movement moments to push the conversation in a progressive direction. You’ll have a track record of jumping on opportunities, training spokespeople to deal with hostile interviews and staying calm under pressure. You will be a reflective manager, able to establish a strategically aligned, motivated and committed team. You will have a strong  understanding of the media landscape - including how it interacts with social media. 

On a day to day basis you will manage a team which books spokespeople into broadcast media every day of the week. You’ll pitch and draft comment pieces, build new contacts across progressive spaces and have high level meetings with producers and journalists. 

This project is part of a wider Communications Hub in which you’ll play an active role helping to develop the overall strategy and direction of the project.

Deputy Head of Care

Reporting to the Director of Care and working in partnership with health, education and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for the line management of Family Support Managers for the Kentown Programme and the development of new locality projects as identified by the Director of Care Services.

Having worked previously in a senior management role, with experience of working in a stressful and emotional environment, within the community, you have a commitment to working in partnership with children, young people and their families, developing, monitoring and delivering service outcomes and building and maintaining successful professional partnerships to ensure the service is accessible to relevant families.

· A poised and convincing communicator - you will maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including families, referrers, partners and other statutory, private and voluntary agencies.

· Comfortable with a changing environment - you will thrive working at a fast pace and controlling tasks from conception to completion and understand that quickly connecting with people is essential.

· A persuasive, inclusive approach to achieving goals quickly and correctly – you have a strong sense of drive and a warm and friendly working style.

· Strong networking skills and confident use of MS Office - Educated to A-level or equivalent with a recognised childcare and management qualification (NVQ4 or equivalent)
