The Research Team is pivotal to ensuring that research funded by Children with Cancer UK is at the
forefront of the children and young person’s cancer research area. You will have the opportunity to be at
the cutting edge of cancer research in children and young people and work closely with members of the
scientific community, surrounded by people working towards the same mission.
The post-holder will be responsible for line managing 2-3 members of the Research Team, providing them
with support and identifying areas and opportunities for them to expand and develop their experience
and skillset.

Job Purpose
BSR education programme is a key benefit to members and the wider rheumatology community, providing updates on the essentials needed to deliver top-quality care for patients and ensuring professional development opportunities.
This role sits within the Education team who are responsible for delivering BSR’s educational activity. Working alongside the Head of Education, the Events and Education Manager, Event Executive and the Digital Events Manager, you will assist in the planning and delivery of a range of education courses, webinars, bursary schemes and digital learning activities. You will work with the team to support the work of our Education Committee, Trainee Committee and Digital Learning Board.
This is an exciting role for someone looking to get more hands-on experience in planning and executing a variety of educational events and activities and liaising with multiple stakeholders. It is a unique opportunity to be part of the team at the forefront of rheumatology education, making a tangible impact on the professional development of members and the broader rheumatology community.
Main Responsibilties
Event & Course Management
- Lead on course and webinar registration processes, including delegate bookings, communications, data management and reporting, and producing delegate materials.
- Support course logistics including venue sourcing and management, accommodation and travel, catering and AV.
- Support stakeholder management at education courses, including communications with patients, sponsors and event supporters.
- Occasional travel, including attendance and overnight stays at BSR conferences, courses and events.
Systems & Data Management
- Oversee the team’s CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) and registration systems, ensuring data integrity, implementing system enhancements, coordinating stakeholders, and carrying out testing.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate the rheumatology training webinar series, including topic development, speaker management and live delivery.
- Coordinate the education bursary programme, including promotion, application management and financial reconciliation.
- Coordinate CPD accreditation of educational activities.
- Support the delivery of digital sponsorship and educational partnership opportunities.
Marketing & Communications
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to create digital content to engage target audiences.
General Duties
- Manage events inbox and education team enquiries, delivering excellent customer service.
- Input into education budgets by monitoring progress against income and expenditure for owned projects.
- Support with BSR Committee liaison and logistics.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Education and the Events and Education Manager.

Role Overview
ESU Competition Leads host our ESU competitions, including the ESU Schools’ Mace Debating Competition, the ESU Public Speaking Competition and the ESU Performing Shakespeare Competition. The ESU Competition Lead is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of events (heats) throughout the competitions, with duties including Zoom hosting and MCing. If required, Competition Leads may sit on the judges’ panel and provide constructive feedback to students and teachers participating. You will also support and provide guidance for our volunteer judges, ensuring they have a positive experience while volunteering with the ESU. NB The ESU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Therefore, we expect all contractors to share this commitment. Responsibilities
For all competitions you will:
- Support and promote the charitable objectives of the ESU, acting as an ambassador for the organisation
- Assist the ESU Competitions Team in ensuring competition heats run smoothly and act as point of contact for schools and volunteers on the day of heats
- MC or compere Zoom and in-person heats, engaging both students and audience whilst following ESU scripts
- Be the technical host for Zoom ESU competition heats, setting up and hosting Zoom meetings, creating break-out rooms and acting as tech support throughout heats
- Provide accurate heat results in a timely manner to the ESU Competitions Team
- Support volunteer judges and ensure they have a positive and rewarding experience
- If required, be part of judging panels at ESU competition heats (which may include acting as chair judge) offering fair, positive, constructive and unbiased feedback based on our judging criteria
- Follow the ESU’s safeguarding policies and provide oversight of safeguarding and equity requirements, in line with ESU policies
- Signpost teachers and volunteers to resources, other ESU programmes and additional support, such as through the ESU website
- Undertake training sessions for continual professional development
Person Specification
Essential criteria:
- Be over 18 years of age and have the right to work in the UK
- Be confident in engaging with and motivating young people of different abilities and backgrounds
- A passion for education, social mobility and/or developing young people's oracy skills
- Fully proficient in the English language with excellent spoken language skills
- A confident and engaging public speaker with experience hosting events or judging
- Technically competent, with experience in using Zoom professionally, ideally as a meeting host
- The ability to engage with and motivate young people of different abilities and backgrounds
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Commitment and ability to deliver a minimum number of ESU events between November - June
- Able to participate in mandatory training days

What we need…

We are looking for a communications and engagement lead who can help us with our marketing, PR, and social media presence. The communications lead will be working closely with our CEO and external partners and will be responsible for planning and executing communications campaigns to meet our annual engagement and income targets.
You should be well organised, proactive, and work well within a small team.
Responsibilities:
- Content & Social Media

Create engaging content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, newsletters, and blog.

Build and maintain a content calendar aligned to campaigns and key dates.

Collaborate with internal teams and supporters to amplify stories.

- Digital Fundraising & Email Marketing

Develop and run email campaigns with strong CTAs to engage and convert.

Work with the CEO to plan donor-focused digital campaigns.

- Analytics & Strategy

Monitor growth, reach, and engagement across platforms.

Use insights to continuously improve strategy and content performance.

Skills & Experience

Demonstrated experience growing a social media audience ideally for a charity, social enterprise, or purpose-led organisation.

Exceptional written communication skills – able to distil technical project outcomes into human-centred stories that spark emotion and action. Creative flair for designing, planning and executing campaigns.

Understanding of public fundraising campaigns and how to use digital storytelling to drive donations.

Experience using Canva for creating eye-catching visuals (text, image, video) and content management.

Proficient in social media management tools, analytics (Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, LinkedIn). Able to quickly post updates and announcements during live events and fundraising periods.

Able to maintain a consistent voice and brand identity across channels.
