Join us in the ambitious ‘Birmingham In Action’ campaign, which commits to raising over £600 million of charitable funding and 1.25 million volunteer hours, positioning the University as one of the world leaders in university development. To help fulfil our exciting campaign ambitions, we are seeking to recruit a ‘Charitable Funding Manager’ (CFM) to maximise philanthropic funding across the University. The role will involve working to achieve a financial target by proactively identifying and securing income from Trusts, Foundations, and other charities. 

A key member of the Development and Alumni Relations Office’s (DARO) Charitable Funding team, you will navigate the university, working closely with academics and Professional Services colleagues to identify some key areas where there are funding needs. The role will bring to life some of our ground-breaking, sector leading work in a compelling and succinct way, inspiring support from new and existing funders. 

DARO exists to support this academic and student community by engaging, inspiring, and celebrating alumni, individuals, and charitable funders who give their money, time, and networks to support the University’s strategic priorities. The Office, which is comprised of five teams, is focused on fundraising and volunteering from alumni, organisations and individuals who are passionate about changing lives, through funding various research projects, supporting student bursaries, mentoring students, and providing internships, as well as providing a versatile programme of engagement opportunities for our global alumni community.

You will have experience of delivering against financial targets, along with the ability to translate complex information into a compelling ask in both verbal and written form. As a Charitable Funding Manager in DARO, you will be innovative, self-motivated, and take ownership of fundraising opportunities in this area. You will generate significant gifts for amazing philanthropic projects and encourage new donors to make long-term, sustainable gifts. You will have an enthusiasm for building relationships and the skill to interact with high-level donors and supporters.

Direct Marketing Acquisition Manager (Direct Response)

You will develop and oversee a specialist area of direct response marketing, taking responsibility for paid media activity resulting in giving and prize-led support, and the associated programme and products. You will ensure the highest standard of quality and compliance, across a diverse programme mix. You’ll manage significant income and expenditure budgets and deliver exceptional fundraising campaigns to drive an ambitious growth plan, accelerating progress towards a cure.

Collaborating with different teams across the charity, you’ll be planning, managing and delivering the direct marketing programme across a range of media including digital, TV, telephone, and print. Activities in the acquisition portfolio are diverse; from delivering an established, successful core programme to playing an important role in exciting cross-organisational projects.

You’ll work with a team of three across a range of channels, media and projects at the charity; speaking to range of audiences with one theme in common – compelling people to stand with us for a cure.

Key Responsibilities:

Programme and campaign management

· Lead the development and delivery of the direct marketing acquisition programme and strategy, with a particular focus on the direct response elements.

· To be responsible for reviewing and developing our Weekly Lottery Strategy to maximize income.

· Oversee the delivery of the direct response acquisition campaigns; ensuring they are in market on time, on budget and on brand.

· Deliver consistent, structured testing to ensure continuous improvement. Where appropriate and worthwhile, ensure testing is applied to all activity and reviewed with recommendations acted upon.

· Involvement in charity-wide projects and groups; putting supporters at the heart of what we do, as well as playing a key role in the delivery of our Fundraising & Marketing Strategy.

· Management of all key acquisition suppliers including routine reviews, briefing, optimisation and general relationship management.

· Annual planning of acquisition direct marketing; including input to operational planning and development of relevant marketing plans.

· Ensure the campaign planning and delivery cycle is adhered to across the team, and all stakeholders are well managed.

· Ensure routine end of campaign reviews and analysis (with suppliers as well as your own), with proactive adaptation of plans to optimise results.

· Ensure contingency plans and activities are in place to close any expected income gaps.

People management

· Management and development of a team of three, with two direct reports.

· Empowering team members to succeed and grow with clear, SMART goals and development plans in place.

· Complete routine 1-1 meetings and annual appraisals with direct reports.

· Developing a high performing team who work collaboratively across the charity.

· Agency relationship management across a variety of partners and suppliers, from building relationships and negotiating, to contract and routine performance reviews.

· Working closely with the Supporter Care and Data teams to ensure the acquisition activity and processes are well understood and that they can support the team as best possible.

Budget management and reporting

· Annual budgeting of direct marketing programmes and campaigns.

· Regular forecasting in line with the annual cycle, making recommendations around budget allocation and managing expectations throughout.

· KPI tracking, trend analysis and interrogation of results at all levels.

· Regular financial performance reporting.

· Programme optimisation to ensure contribution targets are met and contingency planning as required.

· Detailed reporting geared towards a longer-term view of performance, covering long-term & ROI modelling, lifetime value and considering supporter experience and engagement.

What we are looking for:

· Budget management experience – preferably across expenditure and income 

· Campaign management – specifically direct marketing campaigns

· Media planning experience – across a range of media types

· Agency management – including creative and professional acquisition fundraising agencies as well as others such as printers and market researchers

· Demonstrable people management experience

· Ability to understand complex data sets and compile meaningful reports and analysis

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Office of Philanthropic Partnerships and Alumni (OPPA) works with a community of global alumni and donors to  deepen their ties with York and each other, and encourage them to support the University through York Giving.  This role is part of the Individual Philanthropy Team, which manages major individual philanthropy and the legacy giving programme, working closely with the other OPPA teams:

Corporate and Foundation Philanthropy: developing long term, strategic partnerships with philanthropic  corporate and foundation supporters.

Fundraising Programmes: managing mass fundraising appeals, crowdfunding campaigns, community  fundraising and student projects.

Operations and Experience: providing business intelligence, information and insight, governance and  stewardship of supporter and alumni relationships, and managing all mass communications with alumni and  supporters. 

York for Life: developing alumni communities, volunteering and alumni engagement programmes in  support of the University’s strategic aims.

About the Role

The role of Philanthropy Manager is to inspire and encourage philanthropic income from major individual donors to the University of York.  You will work to build engagement and involvement of potential major donors and colleagues across the University to develop and deliver a pipeline of significant philanthropic gifts to York Giving’s priority projects. 

You will manage a portfolio of major donor prospects and have responsibility and accountability for fund management and other priority projects for philanthropic funding, including liaising with academic theme coordinators.

This is a demanding and rewarding role that requires resilience and a long term view.  The post holder will work to individual financial cash and pledge targets and KPIs based on meetings, moves, proposals and asks made.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

• Proven experience in a relationship management role, with both internal and external stakeholders.  Ease at working with people and developing personable relationships with a wide range of people.

The Research Manager at Healthwatch Hounslow will be an experienced manager of community-focused projects or programmes.

You will lead on the organisation of our annual conference; develop and maintain a calendar of events and training for members and non-member audiences; and support the team with all event related administration and logistics.  Events at the SLA include member meet ups (in person and online), events in our branch network across 23 regions, professional development and training, and our SLA Awards ceremonies.

About the Role 

This role will lead Media Trust’s climate work. As Senior Programme Manager, you will run our flagship Communicating Climate programme and lead Media Trust’s work on the Diverse Voices programme. You will help us further develop our climate work and ensure our existing programmes are cutting edge and meet the demands of this moment.

This role will directly manage our Communicating Climate programme. The Senior Programme Manager will build on the success of the past five years of the programme and further develop the programme content and structure to maximise impact for participating organisations. With support from a programme co-ordinator, you will ensure the smooth delivery of the programme, including recruiting and managing a cohort of climate organisations; overseeing the budget and timeline; managing our relationships with funders, trainers and partners; and impact evaluation and reporting.

You will also oversee our role in the Diverse Voices programme, which works to amplify the voices of people and communities most impacted by climate change. The programme is run by a consortium of organisations, including Race Equality Foundation, Turn2Us and Disability Rights UK. Media Trust is the media partner, delivering communications-related training and support to the participants. 

Your line manager will be Media Trust’s Head of Charity Services and the role will sit within our charity services team. This Senior Programme Manager role does not currently have any direct line management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities 

Programme Management of our climate programmes, including: 

• Lead our Communicating Climate programme, ensuring it is high quality, innovative and tailored to the needs and priorities of climate and environmental organisations 

• Recruit and build successive new cohorts of climate charities, user-led organisations and community groups, supporting them through the programme to ensure high levels of engagement and collaboration 

• Recruit and work with trainers and climate experts to develop engaging, practical and tailored training content, activities and resources 

• Plan and ensure the smooth delivery of all activities (including training, workshops, peer to peer networking sessions and other events), ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and lead to planned outcomes 

• Work with Media Trust’s media and creative industry partners to develop tailored training, mentoring and digital resources for the climate and environment sector 

• Manage the Advisory Group for Communicating Climate, which is comprised of leading media organisations, climate charities and sector experts, coordinating regular meetings, building relationships with members and facilitating opportunities for the Advisory Group to shape and input into the direction of the programme 

• Manage relationships with our key programme and sector partners including Climate Outreach, Heard and others, build relationships with a wide range of sector organisations

• Work with media industry partners to design and deliver activities for volunteers from leading media and creative agencies to provide pro bono strategic communications support to climate charities

• Manage the programme budget and financial reporting 

• Lead on the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the programme, ensuring impact is evidenced by high quality data and producing impact reports 

• Maintain up to date knowledge of trends and developments in the climate and strategic communications space and embed these insights into the programme content 

Other work across our team and programmes 

• Identify new opportunities for climate work for Media Trust 

• Share key learnings and best practice across our thematic programmes (our other thematic programme is the Stronger Voices Programme).

• Support the Head of Charity Services with securing grant and other funding for new thematic strategic communications programmes and climate work, contributing to the development of future programmes and funding applications 

• Collaborate with our MarComms team to craft compelling copy for various platforms including web, e-marketing, and social media channels

As part of the NFCC People Culture and Leadership (PCL) Hub this post plays a key role in supporting and enabling fire and rescue services (FRS) to drive organisational and culture change.

The postholder will use their subject matter knowledge, skills and experience alongside the principles of project management to support the design, development and implementation of a range of PCL products and services. Whilst the role supports all PCL activities, the role will have a focus on Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)-related projects, therefore experience in this area is particularly desirable. Moreover we require someone with relevant knowledge and experience in one or more fields of the people/HR/OD/EDI profession.

Evaluating the effectiveness of the NFCC’s PCL products and their benefits to FRS’s will be a key aspect of the role and the postholder will undertake a range of evaluation activities to identify improvements and make recommendations for improvement. They will be responsible for implementing agreed changes and maintaining PCL products to ensure they remain fit-for-purpose.

Stakeholder engagement is a key element of the role by building effective relationships and establishing networks to improve the uptake/adoption of PCL products and drive culture change.

The role

The Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of our Council funded Adult Bereavement Service in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This service aims to provide accessible, accessible, empathetic and effective support for adults affected by bereavement, particularly sudden or drug/alcohol-related deaths. The Project Delivery Officer will work collaboratively as part of the local and regional volunteer and staff team. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Records Management Officer for an exciting 18-month FTC opportunity, with an interest in record keeping and archiving for an organisation that positively impacts the communities we serve. This new role comes at an exciting time in The Fund’s Records Management journey as the Fund is undertaking a significant record management project, which this role will play a key part in delivering.

In this role you will conduct a process of mass cataloguing and appraisal of The Fund’s legacy physical records.

This will include:

• Reviewing boxes of legacy records and applying descriptive metadata.
• Making retention, disposal and transfer decisions.
• Cataloguing through the collection management system.
• Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of applying metadata and archival description during large scale cataloguing activities. The role requires the successful candidate to work both independently and as part of the wider Records Management team, engaging with internal and external stakeholders and to work to deadlines.

Due to the nature of this work, the role will be predominantly office based at The Fund’s Newcastle Office, with some opportunity for home working. The Fund does offer flexible working arrangements with the working pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate.

Responsibilities include:

• Strategic Direction: Lead PBI UK, representing it to external stakeholders, including funders, policymakers, collaborators and the legal community. Oversee day-to-day operations to align with the strategic and operational evolution of the broader PBI. In collaboration with staff and the Board, ensure PBI’s sustainable development and maintain effective internal policies and practices.
• Fundraising and Communications: Collaborate with PBI UK staff to create an annual fundraising plan and oversee its implementation, covering both private (individuals, major donors, legacies, corporates, community) and public (trusts, foundations, some institutional) streams. Lead major donor relations, support staff in engaging trusts and individual donors, supervise key proposals, and network strategically to find new fundraising opportunities for PBI UK. Success will require overseeing and supporting the development and implementation of a communications strategy, ensuring effective supervision regarding communication with stakeholders and external representation before a wide range of stakeholders jointly with PB UK staff.
• People and Culture: Supervise and oversee development of the PBI UK Office team, monitoring performance, training and wellbeing of staff and recruitment strategies.
• Financial Management, Risks and Controls: Jointly with the Finance Manager, monitor, supervise and analyse the financial situation of PBI UK in line with budgets and risks identified by the Board, escalate any relevant actions to the Board and undertake forecasting and pipelining to ensure appropriate and compliant financial controls and systems are in place.
• Policy and Advocacy: Jointly with the Advocacy Manager, supervise the development and implementation of PBI UK’s advocacy and policy strategy with strategic partners including human rights defenders, law firms, other NGOs, FCDO representatives and other civil society organisations/coalitions. Work with the PBI UK team to develop operational projects and opportunities. Give strategic direction and practical support to the implementation of advocacy on policy, countries and cases.
• Liaison with Broader PBI: Lead liaison with PBI’s International Office and other global bodies, ensuring that PBI UK evolves in a way which contributes to PBI’s global evolution, and maintaining good relationships with other PBI teams.
• Liaison with PBI’s Boards and Ambassadors: Work closely with the Finance Manager and PBI UK staff in the production of PBI UK’s annual budget and plan, using PBI UK’s resources effectively and efficiently. Ensure effective implementation of Board decisions, with receipt of clear delegation of authority. Develop relevant policies for Board approval and ensure compliance, and keep the Chair informed of all important matters. Make recommendations to the Board on the appointment of new trustees (including necessary skills).
• Business Strategy and People Management: Successfully implement the strategy and fulfil the objectives of PBI UK with the guidance of the Board and the support of PBI UK staff. Develop a strong working relationship with the IC and other PBI bodies.

Senior Communications Manager 

FCDO Research Commissioning Centre (3ie)

1.  Background 

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Research Commissioning Centre (RCC) has been established to commission and manage research to enhance development and foreign policy impact. The RCC, co-led by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and the University of Birmingham, provides support to FCDO teams for commissioning and delivering high-quality and impactful research. It addresses challenges associated with research bureaucracy by providing a streamlined process for commissioning and delivering FCDO-funded research.

This role is based at 3ie, working closely with colleagues at the FCDO, University of Birmingham and across the RCC consortium. This is a fixed-term position for the RCC, which is a pilot project that began on the 6th June, 2023, and is due to run until the 5th June, 2028. The role is linked directly to the project funding. 

The International Initiative of Impact Evaluation is a mission-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to using evidence to transform people's lives in low- and middle-income countries. We are the global leader in funding, producing, and synthesizing high-quality evidence of what works, for whom, how, why and at what cost. We believe better policy-relevant evidence will make development more effective. 3ie is a registered non-governmental organization in the US. It has offices in New Delhi, London and Washington, DC.  

2.  Position summary 

3ie is inviting applications for a Senior Communications Manager to join the FCDO Research Commissioning Centre (RCC) team at 3ie. With the RCC entering its third year of operation, this is an exciting time to join the project. 

The role will be responsible for the strategic management of RCC communications and for the oversight and management of the Global Research and Technology Development (GRTD) website .  The position will work closely with the team of the FCDO Chief Scientific Adviser and FCDO’s Deputy Head of Research to support the development and rollout of GRTD, suiting a strategic thinker with experience or knowledge of leading communications and engagement campaigns.

The successful candidate will be a highly organised, skilled communicator with excellent command over producing a range of communication and knowledge products such as blogs, policy briefs, infographics, impact stories and case studies, as well as editing technical writing. Prior experience in social media and event management, is desirable. They will be a self-starter with a can-do, team-player attitude.
The ideal candidate will be based in the UK and have the flexibility to travel to London for in-person meetings and events as required. The candidate will need to work according to UK office hours. The role will largely be remote working with dedicated in-person time with the RCC team and with FCDO. 

3. Key job responsibilities
a)  GRTD website development oversight and strategy; FCDO GRTD communications, branding and development

• Work with FCDO to develop a coherent strategy and campaign for engaging with and communicating GRTD to external partners. Manage the relationship with FCDO communications counterparts in delivering the vision for GRTD
• Lead engagement with FCDO to determine design of enhancements and new features for GRTD; oversee these developments, managing external contractors (when required) and working with technical colleagues to ensure developments are fit for purpose
• Collaborate with FCDO teams to support the rollout and visibility of the GRTD brand
• Contribute to the development and implementation of editorial standards, templates, and guidance for GRTD content, in coordination with FCDO and RCC stakeholders
• Assist in the dissemination of impact stories and research outputs that align with GRTD branding and strategic objectives
• Support stakeholder engagement activities and campaigns led by FCDO to promote the GRTD platform, where relevant to RCC-funded research
• Monitor digital engagement with and develop KPIs to track performance, with a focus on continuous improvement and optimization

b)  RCC presence on GRTD

• Ensure the RCC is adequately presented on GRTD and that the design and structure of RCC pages is coherent and promotes the RCC vision
• Create, edit and post new website content for the RCC on GRTD as required
• Coordinate with the 3ie Strategic Communications Office to monitor the website regularly to ensure content is updated and bugs are identified.

c)  RCC Communications
       Strategy: 

• Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the RCC’s overall communication and engagement strategy, including areas of thought leadership around best practice evidence led by the RCC. 

      Content: 

• Strategise on new communication products (including website content, impact stories, blogs, media articles, social media and multimedia content), launches, events, and online promotions Edit, manage and publish research commissioning call documents and participate and manage related events such as Early Market Engagements, FAQ sessions, etc.
• Work with RCC Grantees and project teams editing and publishing RCC publications and deliverables, including reports, briefs and other publications. 
• Create social media content and manage dissemination through 3ie’s social media channels, working with 3ie colleagues (NB: RCC social media channels may be established and in this case the role will directly manage these). 
• Events and engagement: Provide end-to-end support for workshops and events, including content, budget, logistics, communication and marketing
• Provide inputs for communication and implementation plans for research funded by the RCC.

d)  Project management: Ensure that RCC publications and communications products are processed in a timely manner and published on GRTD

• Maintain and update process documents, guidelines and templates for external communications for the RCC and for communications from grantees.
• Oversee the implementation of and improvements to RCC’s branding and logo suite as needed.

e)  Stakeholder support: Work closely with RCC staff to cultivate relationships across the research ecosystem, consortium and with grantees. This is likely to include RCC representation at external events.

f)  Support RCC grantees: Provide guidance and advise on dissemination activities to grant recipients. Review and approve the engagement and dissemination products and plans submitted by RCC grant recipients as part of their work on RCC-funded projects and support the wider RCC team to monitor engagement activities undertaken by grantees.

g)  Knowledge sharing: Collect and collate impact stories for the RCC to support both learning and reporting requirements

4. Qualifications and skills 

• Master’s degree in journalism, public affairs, marketing, or a field directly relevant to international development, including formal communication training. Exceptional candidates with a bachelor's degree and extensive work experience may be considered
• At least seven to ten years of experience in a communication role in development sector.
• Proven ability to plan and implement communication and engagement strategies for organizations and research projects
• Knowledge of tools for graphic design, content management, social media and event management is desirable (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Mailchimp, Canva, Drupal, etc.)
• Proven project management and coordination skills to ensure on-time delivery 
• Excellent English writing and editing skills; cross-platform writing experience is desirable
• Self-motivated, creative, and multi-tasker with a proven ability to work under tight deadlines accurately and professionally
• Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a matrix-organized team environment
• Experience working with UK government departments is desirable
