About CARAS:
Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.
Arriving as an asylum seeker/refugee can be a disempowering experience. Difficulties with language, accessing services and overcoming prejudice are ever-present. As an organisation we are committed to work alongside refugees to overcome those challenges, and to help them build their lives.
We offer group support and targeted support work. We offer a range of activities including: ESOL classes; social and recreational activities such as youth club, drama, trips, and family activities; educational support for young people; and casework and advocacy support.

About Youth ESOL:
Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to young people at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling young people to do well at school or college.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for Reading Group Volunteer to support our face-to-face study programme for young people.
The reading group is in Streatham and is an important element of a study programme for young people aged 14 to 18 who are out of formal education. The timings of the reading group sessions are as follows:

Monday afternoons 2pm to 3pm
 
- 
	
Wednesday mornings 11am to 1pm.
 
Volunteers are required to attend either one of both sessions. Volunteers are also welcome to stay and support the more traditional English language classes either before the reading session on Mondays or after the reading session on Wednesdays.
Students will be supported to read at length and complete challenges that are adapted to their ability level.
The reading group aims to foster independence and a joy of reading among the young people and requires volunteers to learn about the young peoples' interests in order to help them select an appropriate text.
The ESOL teacher will provide volunteers with tips to support reading and understanding for emerging learners of English, such as phonics and elicitation strategies.
Volunteers will work with 1-5 students, mostly reading out loud with them or helping them to decode unfamiliar language.
Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within the Reading Group sessions;

Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;
 
- 
	
Contributing to debriefs to inform the ESOL teacher how each student found the lesson/task and the students’ areas of greatest challenge and success;

Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;
 
- 
	
Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;
 
- 
	
Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;
 
- 
	
Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential;

Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements;

Listening and supporting students to select, read and understand a text; Showing flexibility to the wide range of ability levels in the classroom;

Requirements:
Essential

To be 18 years or older;

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Airdrie Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.
What will you be doing?
Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Management & Volunteer Team.
Key tasks:
- To manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
 - To ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
 - To develop a long-term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
 - To work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
 - To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
 - To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
 - To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
 - To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
 - To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
 - To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
 - To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
 - To act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.
 
Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who could devote the time to volunteer with us as one of our Trustees. As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long terms aims.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary dependent on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties such as the role of chairman, treasurer or secretary.

The RSPCA Coventry and District Branch
The Coventry and District Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
 - Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
 - Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
 - In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
 - Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
 - Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
 - Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
 - In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.
 
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
We are looking for people from all social and cultural backgrounds, with experience and skills in any area. Specific skills such as finance, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation can be useful, but not essential.
Alongside the relevant experience, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. You would be creative, innovative, bring a fresh perspective, and can put ideas into action.

The Role:
We are currently seeking a Finance Trustee to join our Board as Treasurer. It’s a voluntary role that requires a committed individual with financial expertise to take a collaborative approach, supporting our Trustees, our Head of Finance and Governance, and our management team to oversee the financial affairs of our charity and ensure that they are legal, constitutional, and within accepted accounting practice.

Treasurer Role:

As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.
- Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements, as produced by the finance team or others where appropriate, to the Board of Trustees
 - Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
 - Liaising with any paid staff about financial matters, as appropriate.
 - Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.
 - Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems.
 - Drawing any major financial concerns to the attention of the trustee and the management team.
 - Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves in line with its reserves policy, and monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.
 - Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.

 - Leading on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.

The Person We’re Looking For:
- A finance professional with a firm understanding of charity finance and some experience of fundraising and pension schemes.
 - Knowledge of charity fundraising, bid writing, and/or other income generation and/or securing funding through creation or leveraging of partnerships and networks (at a national or local level).
 - A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity and the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.
 - Clear communicator with the ability to explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
 - Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, and liaising with auditors.
 
In addition, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all Trustees.

Purpose of the Role
This volunteer role is a key part of the HFEH Mind team delivering a range of services across Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow. We support clients with mental health with both clinical and non-clinical interventions.
The purpose of the current role is to help promote our Adult Co-production services within the local community, to increase engagement and develop collaboration between various organisations and mental health services. Our current Co-production initiatives include the Adult Co-production Group, The Shakti Project (wellbeing service for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals) and a new Young Adult Co-Production group working with 18–25-year-olds.
Main Responsibilities
This role involves working closely with service managers and the co-production coordinator to discover new organisations and community events to reach out to establish a presence and promote our co-production services, as well as work in partnership with others to improve our services.
This would include identifying appropriate locations to distribute posters and promote the service, assisting with the creation of digital content promoting the service both digitally and in-person, identifying an in-person location that could function as a community hub to host regular meetings (Chai and Chat for the Shakti Project), setting up the community hub on a regular basis prior to meetings, helping with the planning and delivery of enrichment trips and outings, and keeping up to date with important events that can be used to promote our services and engage with the community e.g. Eid, Diwali, Black History Month, Mental Health Awareness week, Health Fairs, Career/ Volunteer Days, Freshers Fair etc.
Tasks
· Promoting the service to members of the South Asian and BAME community (Shakti Project) and 18–25-year-olds (Young Adult Co-Production Group)
· Community outreach: visiting places of worship, events, and communal areas in the tri-borough to promote our projects
· Keeping up to date with online groups and forums that can be used to promote the service
· Assisting in setting up a physical space to host regular Shakti Project group sessions, ensuring accessibility requirements of service users are upheld.

Join the Board of Ensonglopedia, a newly registered arts charity working at the intersection of education, the performing arts and science.
We make musical comedies on science topics for theatres, festivals and schools, alongside workshops in educational, community and disability settings. Purpose of the role:
The overall aim of the Trustee role is to provide strong leadership, direction and expertise to the governance of the CoSRH.
The Board of Trustees (‘the Board’) is the body with the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of the CoSRH and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.
The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by:

Treasurer
Chair the Finance, Risk and Investment Committee (FR&IC) and lead the committee as follows:
· To review progress of financial elements of the strategy and make recommendations thereon to the Board of Trustees.
· To review/consider the strategic plan in context of financial and budgetary impact.
· To review the annual budget along with any constituent elements including membership pricing and make recommendations to the trustees.
· To agree specific expenditure beyond that in the approved budget of up to £125k.
· To make a virement of budgets of up to £125k
· To keep under review through regular reports the delivery of approved capital projects both from the capital investment as well as the actual compared to the projected returns.
· Advise Remuneration Committee on the affordability of any changes to pay and or benefits.
· To review the CoSRH Board Assurance Framework including mitigations, consider the total risks being carried in light of the risk appetite and undertake regular reviews of the risks by rotation.
· To receive reports at each meeting on financial performance and report as required to the Trustees
· To review the draft annual accounts along with the audit report, ensure they are prepared in accordance with relevant accounting standards and Charity Commission guidance and recommend their approval to the Trustees
· To recommend appointment of CoSRH’s external auditors to Trustees and to keep under review the performance of the auditors.
· To review the external auditors’ planning document, their annual findings, report and recommend any required improvements to financial processes.
· To monitor and review the CoSRH’s pension schemes and make recommendations for change when appropriate.
· To review and approve new Business Cases and oversee delivery of benefits,
· To consider changes to the reserves policy and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.
· To keep under review CoSRH’s Investment Policy including compliance with the ethical investment policy and update as necessary.
· To agree and review the Trustee’s attitude to financial risk and the asset allocation strategy.
· To review at each meeting the performance of CoSRH’s portfolio of investments and to receive regular reports from the Investment Managers.
· To consider changes to investment strategy and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.
· To propose the appointment of external investment managers for CoSRH, if appropriate, and to manage their performance.
· To ensure that all transfers of investment funds between managers are properly authorised by the Board.

One Tenth Human is an award-winning theatre company based in Lancaster, led by Artistic Director Sarah Punshon. We are a registered charity (no. 1195497), on a mission to empower primary-age children with better stories about their own potential. We explode myths and expectations when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (“STEAM”) because too many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like me”. We create and tour interactive theatrical adventures nationally to arts venues, libraries, schools, and village halls. Since our formation in 2016, we have been commissioned and co-produced by Shoreditch Town Hall, Z-arts, China Plate, Polka Theatre, Tutti Frutti, Big Imaginations, ARC Stockton, The Dukes Lancaster, and Lancaster Arts. We reach nationally, but are deeply embedded in our local region, working closely with schools, community groups, charities, and higher education partners to incubate new work and give more children the chance to take part in our life-changing adventures.

The Board meets for 90 minute meetings every quarter on Zoom, with occasional in-person Away Days.

The role of our volunteer mentors is to get stuck into session activities, typically supporting a small group of mentees, and helping the Youth Development Lead with facilitating activities with your fellow mentors.

Sessions are designed to be exciting and engaging for our young people, so by showing up weekly and bringing confidence and enthusiasm, you’ll be helping your mentees to grow in confidence, develop their skills and have fun!
