What the job involves

We're looking for a Workplace Health and Safety Manager to join our vibrant charity. This is a diverse and interesting role. You’ll play a key role in the safe and smooth running of our office, compliance, health and safety as well as facilities administration. As a ‘go to’ Workplace manager at the charity you’ll spend a few days a week working out of our London Office. You’ll be the expert in your field and will help to train and coach others to ensure they meet legal requirements when running fundraising and volunteer events. The role manages a co-ordinator to assist in running our 1-floor office in London Bridge.

You’ll have input in developing our Health and Safety policies, risk assessments, and be available to investigate any incidents.

You’ll get to work with a number of colleagues from across the organisation – from supporting the People Team to plan inductions of new starters to helping the Experience Team plan office events.

As a manager, you’ll manage one co-ordinator and the budget for the department. You'll be a key contact with contractors and build our relationship with them. You'll manage processes for ordering supplies, arranging logistics of work from home equipment and purchase orders. 

What we want from you

To be successful in this role, you’ll have extensive experience in workplace and health and safety roles or office facilities, supported by a recognised qualification. You’ll also proven experience in developing and implementing effective processes to embed a safe workplace culture.

You’ll be able to work unsupervised and be a creative thinker using your own initiative. This role requires proactivity, problem solving and prioritisation skills. 

You’ll interact with lots of different people (internal and external stakeholders) on a daily basis and be an excellent communicator. You’ll be working with a diverse group of people and will need to be able to put across complex information in an understandable way. You’ll be able to create excellent working relationships with suppliers, building staff and charity colleagues.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Supporter Stewardship Assistant to join our Supporter Stewardship Team at the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

We are looking for someone to provide administrative support and deliver an excellent supporter care experience to all supporters, members and donors. You will be able to effectively engage, inspire and motivate people to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Within this role, you will support the team with a wide range of tasks including:

• Advise and guide our new and existing supporters to make them feel valued and engaged with the charity, maximising their fundraising potential and encouraging repeat support.
• Work in partnership with Supporter Stewardship Officers to collaboratively complete all aspects of the Supporter Stewardship workload.
• Establish good rapport and understand supporters' needs and reasons for supporting and triaging supporters as required.
• Record supporter information on the Raisers Edge database accurately.
• Order fundraising materials and packs, and process any orders needed by other members of the Fundraising Team.
• Adhere to the Data Protection Act, HMRC, Audit regulations and other internal compliance procedures and policies.
• Play an active role as part of the Supporter Stewardship Team, encourage cross-team working and participate in working groups.
• Work to business and personal development objectives and as required participate in any relevant projects as agreed with the Supporter Stewardship Manager or Head of the Supporter Care team.

Job summary
The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is a Society of over 1,700 members from 100 countries, who work in, or are interested in tropical medicine and global health.

RSTMH organises and participates in events as a crucial way of showcasing, discussing, and debating key areas of tropical medicine and global health research and practice. Our range of events are wide. We deliver conferences and webinars, social events, research meetings for early career professionals, and high-profile debates and discussions. They happen across the UK and around the world, both online and in person. Our events add to the impact of our work in tropical medicine and global health, but also raise funds to allow us to continue our work as a charity.

The Meetings and Events Manager would lead on the delivery of the RSTMH meeting and events strategy. The role requires a self-starter who is excited by the prospect of working on such a broad range of meetings and events. The candidate needs to have excellent communication and relationship building skills, and to be organised, flexible with a great attention to detail. They should be comfortable liaising with venues for meetings space, developing budgets for events, managing logistical aspects of the events programme and setting up new events online and in person.  

Main responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for the meetings and events programme meeting its financial and other goals and KPIs under the existing strategy
• Overall responsibility for the delivery of the events with a focus on expanding global reach, supporting careers, and improving the financial position
• Manage events from conception to completion - delivering events to the highest standard to meet their objectives of success – quality and cost effectiveness
• Attend the Meetings and Events Committee, optimising meetings including helping set the agendas, leading discussions, writing minutes, liaising with the Chair
• Assist to identify, appoint, and manage Scientific Chairs, Committees, and Sub Committees to secure event speakers, secure attendees and sponsors.
• Overall management of the income being delivered from ticket sales, sponsorship and other income streams linked to meetings and events, with support from line manager and CEO
• Responsible for the income and expenditure budgets and monthly reforecasts for our meetings and events, and ensuring accurate financial record keeping
• Support and train colleagues to run meetings and events online.
• Work with the team to develop all event materials – physical and digital
• Work with CEO and Senior Manager to identify sponsors, develop proposals and negotiate income
• Produce comprehensive event briefings for speakers, team, and Board
• Support and attend events, sometimes out of office hours, in and out of the UK
• Evaluate and report on the success of each event and consider areas of improvement

• Develop, implement and manage a dynamic communications plan for Solving Kids’ Cancer UK that encompasses the three key pillars of our work, across all communication channels;  

• Lead on the development and implementation of online marketing campaigns to raise wider awareness, demonstrate our impact, grow our income, and position our organisation as a thought leader in paediatric oncology;  

• Develop and grow our charity’s’ media presence and profile;

The Role 

An exciting Café Manager position has opened at our Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre, which houses a fully integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Centre, Shop, Donation Centre, Office, and our first-ever Café, named Café Hornbeam. 

We are looking for an experienced Café Manager who will provide excellent customer service, prepare delicious food, and create a warm and welcoming space, inspiring their Deputy Café Manager and team of employees and volunteers to do the same. This role will be accountable for the overall management of the Café, including process and policy adherence and development, and Food Safety. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Uphold and manage café operating procedures and policies, including Food Safety, Allergens, Health and Safety and Trading Standards.

• Manage the product mix, introducing new products where appropriate and maximising profit margins.

• Identify appropriate food and drinks suppliers and build and manage supplier relationships.

• Maintain an up-to-date awareness of developments within the café/food service industry to make or recommend appropriate changes to the delivery of café services and products.

• Ensure the café is presented to the highest standards with attractive merchandising of food and drinks. 

• Effectively manage time to work alongside the team, whilst completing managerial duties.

• Plan and oversee the implementation of new menus, specials, and food and drink related offers.

• Manage the Deputy Café Manager and Café Assistants, including supporting them with their continued development, managing rotas and timesheets, providing training and providing appropriate support when needed. 

• Maximise profitability through driving sales and managing and controlling costs, stock, and margins effectively. 

• Be trained as a First Aider and Fire Marshal.

About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• Proven experience of working in a catering or hospitality role at a similar level. 

• Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certification. 

• Experience in managing staff and/or volunteers including recruitment and development. 

• To be highly organised with good time management skills and the ability to prioritise your workload to meet deadlines. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate yourself and others. 

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and nurture talent.

• To be resilient and adaptable to change. 

• To be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list due to the requirement to supervise and train Cafe volunteers between the ages of 14 – 18 years old.
