About the Youth Endowment Fund

We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.

In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We will achieve this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. A big part of the movement that we need to build is in the world of health. We need to inspire and connect with health leaders across Integrated Care Services (ICBs), Local Health Boards (LHBs), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and other relevant parts of the system. We need to spread what works and make our country safer for some of our most vulnerable children. We are looking for someone to lead on making this happen.

Key Responsibilities

We are making progress building the evidence of what works within and around health services to reduce violence. But the big risk is that nothing changes. That’s where you come in. Your role is to identify the best way to make change happen within relevant health services. Your main responsibilities will be ensuring that:

We have great relationships with the people who can make change happen.

This will include:

• Developing great relationships with senior policy makers, sector leaders and experts, including representing YEF in external meetings and speaking at events.
• Build a Strategic Advisory Board of leading experts across the health sector and keep members onside and excited about our work.
• Manage excellent Strategic Advisory Group meetings. You can read more about our Education Strategic Advisory Group here.

We deliver the health system recommendations. 

This will include:

• Helping to identify the right recommendations at a system level (such as changes in policy, regulation, inspection, funding, or guidance) that make it more likely highly vulnerable children get access to the right support at the right time.
• Creating and delivering a plan to deliver the health system reforms, working closely with leaders to make the change happen.
• Tracking progress carefully, being thoughtful and creative about when and how to change the plan. 

We work out the most effective ways to connect people with the evidence, then making those things happen.

This will include:

• Helping health leaders change how they plan or provide services to better protect children from violence, based on our Practice Guidance.
• You can read our first guidance for school, college, and alternative provision leaders here.
• Creating a plan to get people to follow our guidance, using what we know about how they think and behave.
• Continuously testing and improving our approach to get better results.

About You

You are this sort of person:

You must have this sort of experience.

• Delivering concrete change in practice or systems that improved children’s lives.
• Leadership experience in the health system. You’ve worked at a senior level in or with health services – potentially in commissioning – and you understand how to navigate and influence within these complex systems.

First-hand knowledge of the system that supports highly vulnerable children, particularly those at risk of or involved in violence. This includes children with conditions such as conduct disorder, psychosis, substance use disorder, ADHD, developmental language disorder, and traumatic brain injury. You understand the barriers these children face and what it takes to get them the right support.

Hybrid Working

The office is based in Central London. Those living in and around London are expected to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. As our Head of Workforce Research, you’ll lead impactful research and analysis that informs national debate, RCN policy, and advocacy. ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role builds on the work of our Feminist Green New Deal  project. The Feminist Green New Deal puts the needs and priorities of women, racialised and marginalised groups at the heart of all climate policy and action and advocates for a care-led green recovery from our multiple crises of climate breakdown and inequality. The role will continue to develop our Feminist Green New Deal work engaging new audiences, stakeholders and writing new policy papers. 

As a Feminist Climate Justice Policy Campaigner you will make connections with policy makers, government departments, NGOs and influencers, bringing an intersectional feminist lens to these spaces. You will need to keep up to speed with UK climate policies and how these impact women. 

Wen works at the grassroots and policy level ensuring that grassroots perspectives are part of and shape climate policy making so a key part of the role will be linking these two levels.  You will work closely with our Climate Sisters  programme and the Tower Hamlets Food Partnership which inform our Feminist Green New Deal policy asks and campaigns, advocating for inclusive climate policy rooted in the priorities of women,  particularly racialised and marginalised groups.  We are looking to recruit a policy campaigner with in-depth  knowledge of the policy systems and strategic thinking about how to advocate for feminist climate justice at local, regional and national level in the UK working in collaboration with others.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key responsibilities:

• Bring an intersectional feminist climate justice lens to policy makers and debates with a focus on climate, health, food justice and environmental policies

• Work collaboratively with Wen’s Climate Sisters team to make strong connections between the grassroots and policy, drafting and devising policy responses to influence government climate policy

• Develop strategic partnerships and relationships with MPs, government departments, All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), Ministers, Select Committees and key organisations in this field

• Submit evidence to Select Committee reports, inquiries and input into draft bills

• Actively engage with civil society movements around climate justice and policy

• Produce a variety of resources on the issues such as policy briefings, blogs, social media posts and talks

• Campaign on relevant policy debates on social media and other media working with the Wen comms team and influencers to communicate the issues to a wide range of audiences

• Identify, monitor, and evaluate policy issues appropriate to Wen 

• Travel and attend related policy work meetings, events and workshops as agreed 

Wen specific tasks

• Carry out all tasks in accordance with Wen’s Equal Opportunities Policy. 

• Work closely with Wen's campaigns and projects to further Feminist Climate Justice work.

• Ensure all monitoring and evaluation is completed for funders and for internal Wen purposes.  

• Ensure active promotion of an intersectional feminist approach in the campaign and contribute to this goal within Wen. 

• Share in general duties at Wen as necessary.

• Ability to understand and advocate for feminist climate justice in relation to climate policy and communicate this persuasively to decision makers and a wide range of audiences

• Ability to develop and implement advocacy and campaigning strategies, working collaboratively with others.

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide diversity of external individuals, representatives, groups and bodies, including government, in order to deliver Wen’s objectives.

• Ability to research and write policy briefings and blogs with an intersectional feminist climate justice lens

• Advocating and understanding of the issues faced by marginalised and racialised women and communities in relation to environmental and climate policy

• Ability to identify and develop common ground with a diverse group of organisations and individuals working with a movement-focused approach

Education and qualifications:

• Degree level qualification or equivalent work experience

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

• At least two years direct experience of policy, advocacy and campaigning on climate and social justice

• Experience of drafting policy briefs, blogs and social media engagement

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of intersectional feminist approaches to climate justice

• Experience of building effective collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders 

• Excellent written and oral communications skills; the ability to disseminate information to a wide range of audiences and across platforms 

• Self-motivated and able to work proactively, independently and flexibly

The position

The Royal Geographical Society (with The Institute of British Geographers) is seeking an Administrative assistant within the Director’s Office. This is an exciting opportunity to work across core areas of the Society and support key projects. The successful candidate must have an interest in Geography and enthusiasm for the work of the Society. The ideal candidate will have worked in an administrative capacity and will be highly organised with strong time management skills. Interpersonal skills are equally important as they will be working with different teams and must be able to communicate effectively at all levels.

Duties and responsibilities

• Assisting in administration of events that bring senior media and cultural (museums; theatres) decision makers together with sustainability specialists through the course of the year
• Working with the Programmes team to deliver this a high profile new photography festival each July
• Backing the Explore team’s delivery of events and materials including the annual November expeditions and fieldwork festival and the development of the linked Handbook and wider events programme across the year.
• Supporting the Education team in running competitions and linked events
• Participating in membership renewal processing during the busiest period in January/February
• Contributing to the delivery of the Medals and Awards Ceremony and AGM and Reception
• Aiding the Collections team in its progressive re-organisation of stores around the building
• Assisting the Director’s Office team in getting the most out of our CRM in terms of network/contacts management

In addition to general administration the role will bring or develop strong capabilities in getting the most out of our database (CRM) in relation to membership and wider contact development and tracking.

A mission-driven and impact focused single programme NGO is seeking a Finance Business Partner with strong financial modelling skills for a part-time, fully remote fixed term contract for approximately 4-6 months. The role is to support the Finance Director, HR team, CEO and other stakeholders with business partnering, along with specific financial modelling projects.

The organisation’s mission is to get 3-6 year old children in rural Africa to thrive. They have developed an award-winning Early Childhood Development programme, proven its impact through rigorous evaluation, and scaled it with governments in both Ghana and Uganda. It is currently reaching over 300,000 children per year, and we aim to reach 1 million children per year by 2028. The programme benefits both preschool age children and unlocks the potential of marginalised rural parents.

You will work in a busy finance team based in the UK, Ghana and Uganda. The role can be done fully-remotely from within the UK, and the salary range on offer is circa £50,000 - £60,000 FTE (pro-rata). It is anticipated there will be around 2-3 days work per week for approximately 4-6 months.

Experience within a business partnering / modelling role within the NGO sector would be very useful, but is not essential.

Duties include:

• Work focused on adaptions for new contexts: The programme targets rural communities in Ghana and Uganda. This year the organisation plans to scale to a new country and to test ways to adapt it for this new context. They are also keen to explore whether the programme can be adapted for refugee settings.
• Financial modelling focused on selecting a new country to launch the programme
• Specific cost modelling and fundraising modelling around the corporate sponsorship of the organisation’s radio station project

• Develop and strengthen robust and flexible cost models (including sensitivity analyses/stress testing) to guide decisions around the pace and rate of scale, staffing & resource requirements (HR), ensure value for money and maximise cost efficiencies.
• Develop robust budgets for new and renewal funder applications, considering complexities around funder restrictions, currency exchange and forecast economic conditions.
• Analysis and modelling on organisational procedures & policies and capacity building projects

Requirements:

• Fully or part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent
• Demonstrable experience with finance business partnering to a range of stakeholders
• Strong financial modelling skills – ideally in things such as cost analysis, funding analysis etc
• Intermediate/advanced Excel and strong data analysis skills
• An understanding of international charity finance - donor reporting, programmes finance, foreign currency transactions is useful
• Experience juggling multiple projects at once
• Must be able to start the role quickly - ideally immediately available or with a short notice period
