About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic team administrator to join our small, friendly and relaxed team at SCONUL, the professional association for academic and research libraries. The team currently works one to two days a week from our modern offices close to Euston station and the remainder of the week from home. 

You will be responsible for providing administrative support across all aspects of the organisation’s work, including diary management, the organisation of meetings and supporting the delivery of the SCONUL Access Scheme. It’s a role that provides scope for autonomy and to become involved in the full range of the organisation’s work and to develop a broad set of skills.

We are looking with someone with relevant office or administration experience who is well organised and with strong communication and IT skills. The role would suit someone who is self-motivated, flexible and happy to take the initiative.

Job description

Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the Project Manager and SCONUL Co-ordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Organising the schedule of meetings for the SCONUL Board and SCONUL working Groups.
• Managing the diary of the Executive Director.
• Supporting the delivery of the SCONUL Access Scheme including:
  • answering routine queries from Access Scheme users, applicants and university administrators
  • providing SCONUL Access contacts with timely and relevant information about the scheme
  • providing routine technical support to applicants and university contacts responsible for processing applications and refer potentially more complex or disruptive technical problems
  • drafting changes to website content to reflect the scheme’s current practice and procedures.
• Supporting the delivery of SCONUL events including:
  • drafting and following up invitations to speakers and other participants with support from the Project Manager
  • managing and processing events registrations
  • booking accommodation and travel arrangements when required
  • production of event documentation
  • helping to manage events on site, including briefing and managing colleagues, volunteers, and external suppliers, supporting, advising and directing event participants.
• Processing invoices and other office paperwork.
• Answering general queries from members and students phoned into the office.
• Uploading content onto the SCONUL website and helping keep the content up to date.

Skills and experience required

The ideal candidate will relish the opportunity of working as part of a small dynamic team and be an outgoing, flexible individual with a can-do attitude who enjoys engaging with members.

Essential:

• previous experience of office administration or equivalent.

About the role:

As our Finance Manager you will be at the heart of the charity’s operations and play a vital role in helping to achieve our strategic objectives. You will be a qualified accountant with a proven track record of financial management and a solid understanding of charity accounting (including SORP and Charity VAT) and statutory accounts preparation. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the charity to support robust financial governance and ensure transparency in the management of financial operations. Your ability to interpret, analyse and communicate financial data will be key in informing decision-making and presenting clear, accessible reports to a range of stakeholders, including trustees and funders.

You will be confident using financial systems and tools such as Sage 50, Excel, and spreadsheets, and will consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. We are looking for a passionate, ambitious Assistant Charity Shop Manager to join our successful team to help manage our charity shop in Old Swan. 

The Assistant Shop Manager will be an integral part of the wider Charity team.

Main Duties/Tasks: 

You will play a vital role in supporting the Shop Manager to lead, motivate, and develop a team of dedicated employees and volunteers, fostering strong community engagement and maximising the shop’s impact. This includes encouraging and harnessing the gifts of time from volunteers, goods from donors, and income from customers. We are looking for a Programme Manager to lead a transformative leadership initiative focused on equipping women - in Democratic Republic of Congo initially then expanding into West Africa - with the skills and confidence to take on leadership roles within their faith institutions and wider communities.  Additionally the role will also play a part in reviewing leadership support for women in more senior levels of leadership at the Mothers’ Union to support the sustainability of the movement worldwide.

Job Summary

The Leadership Programme Manager will oversee the development of a leadership programme and its rollout through establishing sustainable digital hubs, and providing training to women leaders and male allies.  The role will work closely with the PMEL Manager, Provincial Coordinator, church leaders and a team of trainers, to develop a comprehensive leadership curriculum, coordinate the training of trainers, establish online materials to create a hybrid learning model, monitor participant progress, and build networks to promote cross-participant learning and peer support.  This position requires expertise in developing online training resources across multi-cultural contexts, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a remote team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development

• Oversee the advancement of leadership development as a core strategic priority for MU
• Develop and implement programme strategies, resources and tools that strengthen and scale the leadership development initiative, integrating research, monitoring, evaluation and learning
• Design a leadership curriculum that meets the intended project objectives and equips women across diverse contexts, through online and hybrid learning, combining spiritual guidance with practical leadership and management skills

Programme Planning and Budgeting

• Work with PMEL Manager to design and refine M&E frameworks and specific targets
• Develop and manage work plans and budgets in line with project goals and donor requirements
• Identify an appropriate digital platform to be used to run the online aspects of the leadership development programme
• Oversee the successful purchase and use of core equipment necessary to run the digital platform

Programme Implementation and Review

• Lead and support the delivery of leadership training activities across participating dioceses
• Monitor progress against programme outcomes, ensuring high-quality implementation that is timely and within budget
• Collaborate with coordinators, trainers and church leaders to review programme content and adapt as needed for relevance and effectiveness
• Support reporting, learning and sharing of best practice across participating dioceses
• Champion safeguarding and gender empowerment throughout all stages of the project
• Coordinate data collection in line with the programme M&E plan, including impact stories and other evidence of change, for use in MU communications, including social media and publications
• Conduct regular reviews to identify opportunities for programme expansion, sustainability and long-term impact

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern

This role will be based at our Head Office in Central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.
