Job description

We are thrilled to welcome a Video Editor at a pivotal time for our charity. After a challenging period of inactivity due to the impacts of Covid, we are excited to embark on a new chapter, as we are ready to restart our activities in 2025 and to develop our projects and create a positive impact in our community.

This is a unique opportunity for those eager to be part of a project evolving from its early stages to the launching of new initiatives. The volunteer will have ample opportunity to collaborate with us and help shape our videos from the ground up.

We are seeking a talented Video Editor who can create engaging videos for our new upcoming website and fundraising campaigns.

We appreciate volunteers with experience in editing videos for fundraising purposes, but we are open to those who do not necessarily have the experience but wish to learn.

As a volunteer-led charity, it’s essential for us to find someone who understands the importance of being part of our team and engaging in the entire creative process. Therefore, we will prioritise applications from volunteers who wish to commit to a long-term partnership and want to be an integral member of our team.

What do you need to become our Video Editor?

Essential:

· 3+ years professional experience with Video Editing and ability to create engaging and professional videos.

· Creativity and experience in developing effective videos for marketing.

· Experience in developing effective videos for fundraising purposes.

· Experience in developing effective videos for promoting projects and charitable causes.

Desirable

· Have worked with videos for fundraising campaigns in the past.

HF Mencap  is the only disabilities charity in Hammersmith and Fulham that focuses solely on people with learning disabilities, autism, and other developmental conditions. The Charity provides a range of service-user led activity: Community Advocacy, a Youth Development Project for young adults, and a 6 Day a week Service where the focus is on peer support and skills development through a range of inclusive activities.

As a Trustee you will help HF Mencap continue to provide the highest standards of professional, specialist support and care for the people who use our services and set a clear, ambitious direction for the charity’s future. The Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring the charity is well-run and meets legal requirements, charitable objectives, and those of good governance. You will use your personal skills and experience to help the Board of Trustees in reaching structured and sound decisions.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates who are based in London. You may or may not have been a Trustee or worked in the voluntary sector. 

We would love to hear from individuals who have personal experience with learning disabilities and/or autism, as well as parents or caregivers of those affected. Additionally, we are interested in hearing from professionals who have worked with people with these disabilities. Alternatively experience in fundraising or as a company secretary would be a plus.

Whatever your circumstances you feel strongly about the cause of HF Mencap and want to combine your expertise and passion to create a better world for people with learning disabilities and autism. Independent journalism gives us the facts we need to make the big decisions. We're looking for someone to join our board, chair our Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and help us us protect your freedom and our democracy.

Over the past three decades, the Rory Peck Trust has supported more than 3,000 freelance journalistts,, before, during and post assignment – over 500 in 2024 alone.. We fund training to equip them to report from the world’s most dangerous places, crisis assistance when things go wrong, and mental health support to help them rebuild their lives. Sadly, more freelance journalists than ever need our help so they can continue reporting from places as diverse as Myanmar, Haiti, Sudan and Gaza.

Trustees have ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the Rory Peck Trust, ensuring it is solvent, well run and delivering its mission. They are expected to attend Board meetings, sit on one Committee of the Board, attend meetings of these Committees and contribute to the direction of the Rory Peck Trust by supporting the Management Team in particular projects or areas on request, e.g. recruitment of Board members or senior staff roles. 

The Trust is entering an exciting time, developing a new revenue strategy and overhauling our governance. 

Key tasks:

• As a Trustee, operate as the key conduit between the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and the Board, as set out in the Committee’s Terms of Reference (attached).

• As Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, provide strong, independent leadership, setting the tone for the work of the  committee.,

• Ensure the Trust has an effective risk management framework and ability to understand and manage all risks. Ensure risk and performance management is monitored and managed through effective systems of internal control and delegation.

• Develop a strong and supportive relationship with the management team – in particular the Business Manager.

• Ensure the Trust has an effective system of internal controls and appropriate internal and external audit arrangements to manage the organisation’s performance.

• Support the Board in undertaking statutory duties, which include approving the annual report and accounts, and providing an appropriate statement for inclusion in the annual report on the effectiveness of the company’s systems for risk management and internal control.

• As part of the board, set the strategic direction, in partnership with all stakeholders, including ambition and values, and ensure effective plans are established to achieve the corporate objectives.

• Represent the Trust as necessary to key external stakeholders.

• Agree policies and make decisions on matters that might create significant financial, operational and reputational risk to the Trust, ensuring effective systems of control and delegation.

• To uphold the principles of good governance at all times

• Lead the periodic appointment and review of terms of External Audit

Person specification:

• A qualified accountant with senior experience in an organisation of similar complexity.

• The ability to recognise, assess and stress test risk.

• Demonstrable financial acumen and experience of business planning.

• Ideally experience of being part of a non-executive Board, dealing with governance considerations, ensuring high performance and good decision-making.

• Exposure to internal and external audit functions.

• An excellent working knowledge of audit committee practices and risk management and assurance frameworks.

We're looking for new volunteers to read online. Reading Heroes is a highly individualised initiative - every book that you read has been chosen specifically for you and the child.  All books are provided, and you will receive ongoing personal support from our dedicated Reading Heroes team, as well as opportunities to meet with other volunteers.

The number of care-experienced children in the UK growing; research tells us that these children are more likely to experience social, emotional and mental health problems, so we believe that Reading Heroes is a more important project than ever.

We have found that the Reading Heroes scheme has helped the children involved with their reading and other literacy-based skills, but these are not our primary purposes. Reading Heroes simply promotes reading for pleasure, and giving some of our time to children who need a little extra support - along with a kindly, friendly listener!

As a Reading Heroes volunteer, you’ll be instilling a love of stories which can have a lifelong positive impact. 80% of participants tell us they enjoy reading more after taking part.

The Role – Board Member (Volunteer)

We are seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our Board of Trustees. As

a board member, you will provide oversight, guidance, and strategic support to help CWV

grow its reach and impact. You don’t need previous board experience – just the drive to make

a difference and bring your unique skills, networks, or community insight to the table.

Key Responsibilities

•Attend and contribute to quarterly board meetings and occasional strategy sessions.

•Support the development of CWV’s strategic vision and community impact.

•Use your professional expertise or lived experience to inform board decisions (e.g.

education, youth work, business, legal, HR, marketing, fundraising, etc.).

•Leverage your personal or professional network to promote CWV’s work and connect us

with funding, partnerships, or opportunities.

•Ensure CWV operates in line with its charitable aims, legal obligations, and good

governance practices.

•Act as an ambassador for CWV at events, with funders, and across your networks.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome board members from a wide range of backgrounds. You may have experience

in:

•Community development or youth services

•Education, social work, or mental health

•Fundraising, business development, or marketing

•Finance, governance, HR, or legal

•Lived experience of the issues CWV addresses

•Or a strong passion for helping children and communities thrive

Commitment

•Time required: 6–10 hours per month (flexible)

•Location: Remote and/or London-based meetings (hybrid)

•Term: Minimum one-year commitment (renewable)

Detailed description

Mentoring within One YMCA is delivered through the youth team and volunteers. Young people aged 13-19 years can access the service which provides support and encouragement for young people to work towards their goals.

Mentors and mentees are paired based on experience, expertise and support needed.

This project will last for up to a year with each young person, with an average of 3-4 hours per month being given to the young person and their support.

Training for this role is due to commence on 22nd January 2025 (Time and Location TBC)

Pay: This is a voluntary role; however, expenses will be covered.

Key Responsibilities:

·To attend full induction training and complete all relevant child protection checks

·To arrange to meet with your mentee for 1-3 hours a month over a period of 12 months, in a public place.

·To prepare for your mentoring sessions with the purpose of progressing with their mutually agreed goals.

·To offer tailored support to your Mentee in areas such as confidence and resilience building, accessing services, careers focus and development. You may be working on a number of areas as the needs of your Mentee present themselves.

·To safeguard and promote the wellbeing of your Mentee.

·To complete feedback, monitoring and evaluation forms.

·To liaise with the mentoring coordinator for support in delivery of sessions where needed.

·To help identify the support that your Mentee requires, reporting any concerns you have to the mentoring coordinator.

·Completing regular reviews with your Mentee and mentoring coordinator.

·Any other reasonable task that is associated with the role.

• Experience of working with young people

• Ability to work on own initiative and a willingness to prepare for each session
• Ability to use online video platforms such as Microsoft Teams
