The Work Rights Centre is looking for an experienced employment legal adviser, solicitor or barrister to contribute to our growing programme. The successful candidate will provide expert employment legal advice and casework, and support the wider development of the charity and our strategic goals.

The role
You’ll provide excellent employment legal advice, and support the Head of Employment in supervising our team. You’ll also use your expertise to create accessible public-facing legal information, deliver impactful training to both advisers and employers, and collaborate with colleagues in the policy team. This is a real opportunity to support vulnerable workers' claims, while contributing to systemic change.
About you
We seek an experienced professional who shares our commitment to employment justice, and who is either:

a practising solicitor or barrister eligible to practice law in England and Wales with 2+ years of PQE, or

an employment legal adviser with 4+ years of experience of providing advice and case work.

About Wikimedia UK
A registered charity, Wikimedia UK is the national chapter of the global Wikimedia movement. We work with volunteers, communities and partners across the UK to build and improve Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, so that everyone can access and contribute to reliable, open knowledge. We empower people to find, use, evaluate, and communicate information online and we advocate for a digital ecosystem that is open, equitable and democratic.
Background:
Programme Coordinators at Wikimedia UK lead on partnership work, relationship development, training delivery and volunteer support, usually within particular geographic or topic areas. We are looking to recruit for a fixed-term, two-year role to deliver and develop our activities in Scotland, and support the wider Programmes team in delivering UK-wide work. For example in 2026, we are planning celebration events across the country for Wikipedia’s 25th, and the post-holder may be involved in their delivery. Apart from the delivery focus on Scotland, there will be scope to get involved with other areas of Wikimedia UK’s programmatic work such as delivering training in other parts of the UK, or supporting minoritised languages (particularly the indigenous languages of the UK), depending on programmatic needs.
We have had dedicated staff support for activity in Scotland for nearly a decade, and have several successful and ongoing partnerships with a number of educational and cultural institutions, as well as community organisations. Whilst the focus of this role is primarily on Scotland, Wikimedia UK delivers work both nationally and internationally, and the post holder would be expected to hold a portfolio which contributes to and supports this.
This is a part time post and can be based anywhere in Scotland, and there is an expectation of travel, including quarterly meetings at our office in London. Some evening and weekend work should also be expected, for which Time Off In Lieu can be taken. Successful post holders of similar roles in the organisation are skilled in advocacy, creative thinking, and project planning.
Purpose of job: To lead the delivery of Wikimedia UK’s activities in Scotland, by developing and running projects with partner institutions, involving and empowering volunteers, and delivering training, as well as supporting programmatic work outwith Scotland.
Main Duties
Programme Development & Delivery:

The Hainault Forest Visitor Centre Assistant is an integral part of the team delivering a welcoming and memorable experience for visitors to Hainault Forest. Working in the Woodland Trust’s visitor centre, the role will assist with retail operations, provide excellent customer service, support various visitor engagement activities, and promote ways that visitors can support our cause - including Woodland Trust membership. This role contributes to enhancing the visitor experience while supporting the Woodland Trust’s mission. The Role:
- Provide a warm, welcoming experience for visitors by sharing information about the forest, facilities, activities, and key site features, and responding to general enquiries.
- Promote the Trust’s membership offer and actively encourage sign-ups as part of the visitor experience.

We are now looking to appoint a Deputy Director to help steer that work and further drive the development of the Coalition. You will work closely with the Executive Director (ED) to lead our influencing work at the highest level, strengthening our policy platform, and ensuring we translate evidence into meaningful impact. At the same time, you will play a pivotal role in supporting a talented and experienced team and shape the continued growth of the Coalition as a charitable organisation.
About The Role

We are a remote team, with most colleagues based outside London. This role requires regular access to Westminster, so you will need to be based in or within easy reach of London.
We work flexibly and understand the realities of balancing work with caring commitments. We trust you to manage your time but expect that most of your hours are worked within core office hours to fulfil the requirements of the role. To support fluent remote working, we require all staff to work on Thursdays.
This is a dual role, delivering our policy, engagement and public affairs strategy while also supporting the Executive Director to grow the Coalition as an organisation and movement. About You
You are a senior public affairs professional with a strong track record of strategic influencing and engagement to shape policy. You bring robust judgement and credibility and are motivated by the opportunity to deliver meaningful change in a high-profile policy area and may have experience on public-service reform.
You are equally comfortable setting direction and delivering through others as you are rolling up your sleeves to respond to fast-moving political developments. You should have previous experience of managing functions and teams and working in senior leadership teams. Ideally you will be live to the challenges of working in a small, but high-impact national organisation and have experience of scaling teams and functions.
What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Executive leadership
This will include supporting the ED with key senior stakeholder relationships including funders, ministers and policymakers. You will be required to deputise for the ED during periods of leave or when directed to do so. This is a pivotal role which straddles the executive and senior leadership functions. Consequently, you will be expected to make decisions that balance multiple interests and help scale and grow the Coalition as a sustainable organisation. - Lead the Coalition’s policy and influencing function

Person Specification
Essential
- Experience of leading a team or working at executive/senior leadership levels where you have managed budgets and had to make decisions related to organisational effectiveness. This should also include demonstrable experience of building and nurturing teams that can deliver an organisational strategy.
- Proven experience leading influencing functions in an advocacy or policy environment and delivering change
- Experience turning research and insight into clear, credible and persuasive policy positions.
- Knowledge of system change approaches, ideally within public service reform or similar
- Knowledge of how Government, Parliament, Whitehall, political parties and the wider policy community operate, and how to navigate them effectively.
