Thousands of older people living in care homes receive few or no visitors. Friends for Life Bedfordshire exists to change that.

Through our befriending and group activities, we bring companionship, connection and meaningful relationships to care home residents across Bedford and the surrounding area.

About Friends for Life Bedfordshire

We are a Bedford-based charity working to address the social isolation of older residents in Bedfordshire’s care homes.

Founded in 2007, we have grown from a small local initiative to a registered charity with c90 volunteers supporting more than 30 care homes across Bedford Borough. In the last year, over 1,100 care home residents received our services.

The Role

This is a leadership role responsible for the overall management, performance and development of the charity.

You will lead a small team which includes specialist leads responsible for fundraising, volunteer management, and marketing & partnerships.

Your role is to set direction for the team to deliver the charity’s strategy and business plan, aligning priorities and creating the conditions for the team to succeed.

The Loop delivers high quality, accessible, evidence-based and evidence-making drug checking services and to disseminate harm reduction information to individuals, service providers and policy makers. This is for the purpose of creating a safer society where everyone can access accurate, timely, and relevant information to make more informed decisions about drugs.

The Communications Lead will ensure that we are able to extend the reach and understanding of harm reduction related to drugs and alcohol. This post will ensure The Loop expands its profile and presence, capacity and response, to maximise the opportunities to communicate harm reduction messages and information, raises the awareness, access and understanding of drug checking, and engages stakeholders and members of the public.

This will require the postholder to:

- Coordinate and increase the capacity of The Loop to effectively communicate related to our aims and purpose

- Develop and disseminate social media content, in collaboration with colleagues across The Loop

- Work with partners of The Loop including press and media to further the profile of The Loop for strategic benefit and greater reach to the public.

You will be motivated to assist in the development and delivery of The Loop and possess knowledge of drugs-related harm reduction approaches including messaging, with related or transferable experience in communications. You will contribute and be part of a passionate team of staff and volunteers determined to further introduce drug checking and related harm reduction interventions across the UK.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified immigration advisor to lead on key elements of our Change of Conditions casework service as maternity cover for the coming year including our ‘self-submissions’ support programme and second-tier CoC advice.

The Unity Project (TUP) supports people who are facing poverty and homelessness because their immigration status allows them ‘no recourse to public funds’ (NRPF).  We believe NRPF should not exist and we are working to end it. Until then, we seek to minimise its impact by supporting people to make the ‘change of conditions’ (CoC) application to access public funds. As part of this work, we continually develop new casework approaches to make CoCs more accessible to more people. By taking a strategic approach to our casework, we have opened up new routes for people to move through the process, and achieved greater recognition of groups with particular needs. We have also supported numerous strategic legal challenges which have prompted significant changes to the immigration rules and guidance related to CoCs. 

In this cover position, you will play a key role in our strategic casework. You will be responsible for TUP’s ‘self-submissions’ casework provision for applicants who submit their own CoC applications independently. You will support with other strategically significant casework as required, including by liaising with public law firms, writing witness statements for JR challenges and communicating directly with Home Office policy teams. You will also share our CoC expertise with the sector through second-tier advice and training workshops.

The role will suit someone who has prior experience of supporting clients with NRPF, an interest in broader immigration policy and the desire to apply those skills to a specialist context. The role requires someone who can adapt quickly and apply a strategic mindset to the challenge of using legal routes to achieving systemic change.

Our Administrative Assistant sits at heart of Trauma Recovery CIC, coordinating client enquiries and referrals, supporting the client facing team and working with our Operations Lead to ensure everything runs smoothly. 

Trauma Recovery CIC’s Administrative Assistant is central to the organisation. The person in this role supports the
people accessing our services, the client facing team to provide the services, and the leadership team to ensure
accurate reporting to understand trends, needs and secure future funding.

They will coordinate referrals, booking initial appointments and sending information by email and post to those
who use the service and the professionals supporting them.

To support the team, they will ensure that the client management system runs smoothly, provide administrative
support and where possible tech support to the client facing team and ensure that records are accurate and up to
date.

To support the leadership team, they may coordinate events, research local services, support with completing
reports and funding applications and day to day ensure that communication between team members is clear.

The Merchant Taylors’ Company dates from 1327, when it was formed as a social and religious organisation for tailors and linen-armourers dedicated to St John the Baptist. Today, it is a flourishing Livery Company whose members are dedicated to education, fraternity, and philanthropy.

Volunteering is important for the health of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, since the hands-on experience of volunteering binds members in an emotional commitment to what the Company stands for. Many of the Great XII Livery Companies prioritise volunteering, offering a wide range of opportunities from due diligence visits with grant applicant charities to longer term mentoring opportunities with our family of schools. 

At the heart of Merchant Taylors’ Company lie the concepts of ‘Fraternity, Philanthropy and Education’.  Volunteering is vital to each pillar, enabling members to give their time and talent alongside their treasure. 

The Company is now at an exciting juncture where the groundwork to embed a more systematic approach to volunteering has been completed and the appetite within the Company has started to grow particularly across the Company’s Education programme.

Overview of role:

With your experience in events / project management and excellent communication and diplomatic skills, you will be the interface between the membership, your colleagues at Merchant Taylors’ Company, our family of schools and our charitable partners. You will be responsible for developing and delivering an engaging, interesting and successful range of events for members to participate in.

Job Description:   

• Take a lead on the delivery and development of an annual programme of volunteering opportunities and education events aligned with existing initiatives and in collaboration with partner organisations and schools where appropriate. 
• Work with the EGRM to co-ordinate the Trust’s Livery Academy Award scheme: recruiting, training, and supporting member volunteers to ensure high-quality engagement. 
• Take a lead on promotion of volunteering opportunities through the members’ portal in good time, with appropriate explanation to encourage take up. 
• Proactively identify barriers to participation from the membership, and develop innovative, accessible volunteering opportunities and methods to engage new audiences. 
• Champion and promote the Company’s volunteering and event initiatives by working, both with the Communications Manager and independently, to promote opportunities through compelling articles, e-newsletters, social media outreach, public talks and by representing or supporting Company staff at events. 
• Take a lead on designing and creating appropriate training resources for all volunteer roles to manage expectations including, where appropriate, delivery of training. 
• Support members with any queries relating to volunteering opportunities, offering members the chance to talk to MT staff. 
• Ensure that all volunteer members have completed the MT safeguarding questionnaire before they are cleared for any opportunity and has been trained in appropriate MT policy areas (E.g. GDPR/safeguarding) 
• To actively liaise and respond to School requirements to ensure volunteer members deliver excellent support for students. 
• Collaborate closely with Company Schools and internal teams to identify opportunities and design high-quality, sustainable volunteering activities that support project goals and help achieve Company targets. 
• To use the Membership portal to capture and analyse data about Company volunteering in order to evaluate cost/benefit of volunteering efforts, and tell the story of MT’s volunteering impact to the MT membership. 
• Gather and act on feedback from volunteers and participants to inform and improve the Company’s volunteering and education strategies.
• Uphold the health, safety, and wellbeing of all volunteers and participants, following the Company’s Health & Safety policies.
• To take a lead on the administration of Company Volunteering activities including DBS checks, budgeting, database management, website administration, project reporting and meetings.

As Director of External Affairs across the Bild Group of four small charities (with collective turnover of approx. £3m/yr), you will have a deep commitment to human rights and improving people’s lives.

You will provide strategic direction and leadership to the External Relations function across all four charities in the group, taking overall responsibility for and providing thought-leadership on our strategic approach to policy, influencing, public affairs, stakeholder engagement. 

You will play a lead role in planning, developing, and implementing the communication and external relations and wider engagement strategic plan to grow awareness and profile of Bild, Respond, Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) and ACT.

By sharing the impact of our work and programmes in improving the lives of people with learning disabilities, autism and /or mental health conditions, you will support Bild in becoming the sector leading provider of organisational and workforce development (and RRN in becoming the leading charity in reducing restrictive practices globally – and Respond as leaders in trauma informed therapy).

You will champion Bild and RRN’s brand, vision, mission and values acting as an ambassador for the organisation both internally and externally to partners, stakeholders and media.

Key Responsibilities and Duties: 

Strategic Leadership:  

• Develop and implement an integrated communications and external relations strategy across the four charities in the group to raise our profile and to influence change which positively impacts on our beneficiaries, aligning media, campaigning, and public affairs with the charity’s mission and strategic priorities 

• Lead and inspire a high-performing team including Membership and Events Officer, Resources Coordinator and comms team as required 

Comms & Marketing:

• Plan, develop and implement strategic communications and marketing plans to maximise awareness of the Bild Group of charities across the broad spectrum of communications disciplines including media relations, stakeholder management, influencer engagement, ethical (impact focused) marketing, social and new media and the production of new materials and resources 

• Write, develop and produce materials such as infographics, press releases, briefing documents, media statements and online information suitable for stakeholders, including people with lived experience

• Ensure effective marketing across all four charities focusing on impact and including ensuring we attend a range of external events and that all four websites are best practice. 

Influencing & Public Affairs:

● Is responsible to the Trustee Board for the management and leadership of Citizens Advice Surrey Heath.

● Represents Citizens Advice Surrey Heath to funders, partners and stakeholders.

● Ensures the delivery of a high quality, impartial and confidential service, utilising both paid staff and volunteers.

● Is responsible for the continuing funding, planning and financial management of the service.

● Represents the organisation in Surrey Heath and contributes to the overall provision of strategic advice services in the borough.
