Overall purpose

Reporting to the Director of People, the HR Manager will take responsibility for the operational delivery of Breaking Barriers’ key People and HR activities and initiatives. You will have a strong knowledge of all aspects HR and provide proactive, practical support on day-to-day operations as well as leading strategic HR projects. A keen understanding of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) in the workplace and employee wellbeing is an advantage.

This role is essential to ensure we continue to be an effective, inclusive and people-led organisation. Your role will be vital in making sure Breaking Barriers is and continues to be a great place to work for its staff.

You will deliver day to day HR support to team members and managers, work across the organisation to advise on HR policies and good practice, deliver recruitment processes, and deliver and track Learning & Development. You will support on wider strategic initiatives, working with the Director of People to embed new strategies and projects informed by employee feedback.

About the role

We are looking for a self-driven, highly motivated team player to join our HR department. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this postholder will work closely with the two HR People Partners. The post holder will lead and manage all formal employee relations cases whether it be disciplinaries, grievances or complaints. They will also Project manage and deliver on HR projects including the development of new initiatives and HR policy updates.

Responsibilities

• To lead and manage employee relations activity across the charity by working closely with the key stakeholders.
• To provide guidance and advise senior managers in line with MSSC policies, employment legislation and ACAS Code of Practice regarding complex HR situations.
• To lead and take notes at all MSSC disciplinaries, grievances and formal complaints to support the process. These could include conduct, performance management/capability, absence management. grievances, bullying and harassment, discrimination, whistleblowing etc. 
• Ensure appropriate documentation of cases including file notes, correspondence, accurate meeting minutes etc, ensuring their employee file is kept up to date and organised.
• To provide support to the HR People Partners on broader ER issues, if necessary, such as absence management/OH referrals, performance management/PIPs.
• To support and assist the Director of HR and the team on a range of HR projects and initiatives.
• To develop, review and implement HR policies, procedures and guidance documents, ensuring legal compliance and best practice.
• Manage the appraisal process including launch communications, monitoring completions and reviewing forms for any ER issues and logging training needs.
• Lead the annual staff survey launch and collation and analysis of data.
• To cover for the Director of HR and other team members as required.

This is a fixed term role with a two-year commitment (18 month contract) and delivery plan.  You will work closely with the National Volunteer Engagement Manager to help embed the new VMS or CRM across our delivery team, working practically and equitably with colleagues to understand any individual challenges or needs and finding appropriate ways to support them. 

We’re looking for a highly organised and proactive CRM Project Manager to lead the next phase of our CRM development project.

You’ll operationally manage the delivery of our CRM plan, support the commissioning of a new system, and develop and drive forward a clear implementation strategy. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external providers to ensure smooth delivery, while coordinating training, ensuring compliance, and embedding inclusive practices.

About you

You have a  passion for nature conservation and want to see more scaled up and urgent global action for plants and fungi. You will have some level of botanical knowledge and experience in the global conservation or environment sector, with the ability to work cross-culturally and effectively engage with key stakeholder and partners. This will include working with our existing partners and those in the Global IPA network (GIPAN).

This role offers the opportunity to develop and implement a programme of work that has a critical role in protecting and restoring wild plants and fungi and to promote sustainable and ethical conservation practices globally.

About the role

Plantlife pioneered the development of the Important Plant Area (IPA) criteria to identify the best sites of international significance for wild plant diversity – there are now 3,000 globally. These sites have rare and threatened plant species, exceptional botanical richness and threatened habitats. Once identified, IPAs help to target conservation actions and sustainable management of plants.
Plantlife has continued to be a proud advocate of the IPA programme and expanding the network of IPAs and increasing the delivery of management and actions at these sites are now key priorities of the Global Programme’s five-year plan. This has created an exciting opportunity to join the Global team in a new role – Global Important Plant Area Manager – to shape and oversee the strategic development of the IPA programme.
Working with the Head of Global, the postholder will be responsible for strengthening and expanding the IPA programme, building capacity (e.g., through training) and working with partners (e.g., Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) to increase the number of IPAs identified. The role will also help to support the global plan of delivering more conservation action across IPAs, focusing on a “whole of society” approach.

Early Literacy Interventionist (North London)

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you keen to work with children to support and develop their phonics and reading skills? 

38% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard. Chapter One is a fast-growing charity, with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills they need to thrive. We work to ensure that all children have 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme (based on a model that serves 20,000 children successfully in the USA) provides daily, 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually with target children. 

This ELI role, reporting to the Schools Development Manager, is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and grow their knowledge of phonics and/or their teaching skill set. It is ideal for someone with previous school experience who is looking for a new and exciting challenge.

You will conduct initial baseline assessments and then deliver differentiated, 1:1, targeted, 7 minute phonics sessions to pupils using a systematic, synthetic approach. As Trusts Officer, you will secure income from a range of Trusts and Foundations to meet agreed income targets. You will research and identify potential Trust and Foundation funders for priority projects. You will write funding applications, coordinating inputs and creating budgets as needed and maintain accurate database records. You will also steward a portfolio of funders to strengthen relationships, including thanking, reporting and organising visits

Main Duties:

The role

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Opportunity Centre Officer to lead operations at this innovative space, ensuring it becomes a hub of inspiration and growth for young people.

This role will oversee the Centre’s daily operations, ensure smooth delivery of engaging learning experiences, and collaborate with schools, partners, and the community to provide meaningful development opportunities for young people.

This is a fixed term contract starting late August/early September 2025 until July 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

· Oversee day-to-day access and use of the Centre, including student registration and visitor management.

· Ensure the facility is safe, secure, and welcoming, including health and safety checks, safeguarding measures, and ICT setup.

· Coordinate the planning, setup, and cleanup of learning activities.

· Manage basic building maintenance, including coordinating repairs, ensuring cleanliness, and overseeing general upkeep of the facility.

Youth Engagement & Programme Delivery:
