We’re looking for a Research Manager who combines exceptional ability in research and report-writing, with a real passion for (and experience in) peacebuilding. We offer flexible hours and working from home, anywhere in the world. It will be vital that you have an excellent grasp of the context in the Central African region, which will require time spent there and, ideally, significant prior knowledge.
In the first months of the programme, the team will consult at least three thousand people, with a combination of key informant interviews, individual questionnaires and focus groups to build both quantitative and qualitative datasets.

The reports you produce will help amplify their voices, providing decision-makers in government and the international community with clear recommendations for activities that will address root causes of conflict and promote sustainable peace and development.
Concordis works alongside those involved in or affected by armed conflict, helping them find workable solutions.

About EJF
EJF protects the natural world and defends our fundamental human right to a secure environment. We are headquartered in the UK and have teams in 16 countries across four continents. Our filmmakers, researchers, campaigners, and grassroots advocates bring about systemic protection for the natural world and defend the fundamental human right to a secure environment. Our campaigns are rooted in field investigations, partnerships, and grassroots communities that inform and guide our global strategies to protect people and our shared planet.
CONSERVING OUR GLOBAL OCEAN. We campaign for legal, sustainable, and fair fisheries, end marine plastic pollution, and stop deep-sea mining. Our investigations expose illegal fishing fleets and ‘seafood slavery’ and drive protections for marine biodiversity and the communities that depend on the ocean.
PROTECTING OUR CLIMATE. We defend Nature’s carbon stores – ocean, wetlands and forests - and we work to secure greater protection for climate refugees.
EMPOWERING ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENDERS. We provide training, support, and equipment that enables community activism and investigative environmental journalism to succeed in the Global South.
The Role

This includes surveying audiences to benchmark attitudes; managing a launch event; using existing (or establishing new) local and regional communication channels to reach audiences and share progress; co-developing with partners a series of meaningful engagement opportunities; supporting project ‘hubs’ to develop their own communications and engagement plans and monitoring the impact of project activities.
This is an 18-month fixed-term position. Should our funding bid for the subsequent five-year ‘delivery’ phase be successful, we hope the ECO will remain in post to support the delivery of these plans.

Who we are
The problem - On average, 160 young people are excluded from school each week. Once excluded, prospects for these young people are bleak, with only 4% achieving good GCSE grades, and 67% entering sustained education, employment or training compared to 96% of their non-excluded peers. This can be a pipeline to prison, with concerning statistics showing 63% of prisoners having been excluded from school.
Our mission - To ensure that young people who have been excluded from school are not excluded from society.
Who we serve - We support the hardest to reach young people in the most disadvantaged communities, each of whom are most at risk of experiencing school exclusion or are at risk of being excluded. Young people who are eligible for free school meals are 4x more likely to get excluded, along with black Caribbean boys. Young people with special educational needs are also six times as likely to be excluded as their peers.
Our work - We work in a number of different settings both during term time and after school. Our coaches lead small groups of 8-10 young people, using sport as a hook and mentorship as an anchor to develop their soft skills, as well as improve their physical & mental wellbeing. This, coupled with exposure to the work place through Career Taster Days, raises their aspirations and puts young people in a better position to enter sustained education, employment or training (EET) when they leave school.
The Basics
Salary – £32,000 to £38,000
Reporting to – COO
Location – London office based with expectation to travel to regions and some flexibility to work from home
Hours – Full time 37.5 hours
