Charity People are delighted to be supporting AdviceUK, a small charity which improves the lives of people in need of advice through support to its members, to recruit a Head of Policy and Public Affairs.
AdviceUK makes a big impact. Its stakeholder, policy and advocacy work is across devolved nations as well as the UK. They support members, so it is easier for them to help their clients, and by directly influencing policy-makers, decision-makers and funders. There are currently 700 AdviceUK members and 1.7m people were offered free advice by members on a diverse range of issues including debt, housing, benefits and immigration problems.
This is an exciting time to join AdviceUK's growing team as they launch a new three-year strategy. The organisation will be making a significant investment in capacity, new support services and innovation to deliver the support and advice that members, the wider advice sector and their communities need.
The Head of Policy and Public Affairs will lead and have oversight of all policy and public affairs activities; developing the function; establishing policy positions; delivering evidence-driven campaigns and effective stakeholder engagement; to secure policy change and funding to benefit people seeking advice and the communities served by members.
Key responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement effective strategies for policy and funder influence, ensuring alignment with AdviceUK's strategic objectives. Provide ongoing strategic oversight of political and sector trends to inform decision-making.
- Policy Development and Advocacy: Lead the creation and coordination of clear policy positions, identify influencing goals, and overseeing responses to government consultations. Represent AdviceUK at external events.
- Public Affairs Management: Oversee a proactive public affairs strategy, build relationships with key government contacts, manage stakeholder engagement, ensure effective public affairs leadership, and amplify influencing work.
- Campaign and Media Leadership: Oversee the development of effective campaigns, mobilising support and leveraging media opportunities to raise awareness and drive action on priority issues for AdviceUK.
- Research and Evidence: Oversee research and analysis to support policy and campaign objectives, ensuring evidence-based insights inform advocacy efforts.
- Leadership and Management: Provide effective leadership to the Policy and Public Affairs Department as well as other staff, line managing the department, ensuring strong performance and supporting learning and development.
- Funding and Financial Management: Foster funder relationships to secure income for AdviceUK, manage departmental finances, and ensure efficient programme management of grant-funded initiatives.
The Head of Policy and Public Affairs will have at least 3 years' experience of working in a similar role and experience and/or an understanding of the social welfare advice sector, the issues faced by advice providers and the communities they serve. The successful candidate will have developed and delivered impactful policy and public affairs strategies that have led to demonstrable change either directly or by working in coalitions and partnerships. You will have experience of acting as a spokesperson including to the media, at events, to select committees and other government or funder-led working groups. You will be a strategic leader with the ability to build strong working relationships and manage and motivate a team. You will have strong analytical, organisational and prioritisation skills.
This role is home-based. You will need to attend meetings and events in London as part of the role and quarterly SMT meetings and all staff meetings with some travel across the UK and overnight stays. There may be out of hours work for which TOIL is granted.

Role Summary

The Fundraising and Business Development Team Administrator will form part of a five-strong team led by our Head of Fundraising and Business Development. Responsibilities:
As part of a small team, you will need to take responsibility for identifying where your support is most needed through busy times, juggling different priorities to work effectively and efficiently, often under your own steam.
Key responsibilities are:
Corporate Fundraising
- Support corporate fundraising by completing due diligences on potential partners (you will be trained how to do this), organising corporate visits, volunteering days, supporting corporate fundraising events, keeping corporate partners up to date with our news etc and organising meetings.
Trusts and Foundations
- Support trusts and foundations fundraising by supporting on funder research (again you will be fully trained how to do this) and contributing to a constant pipeline of potential funders for the team to approach.
- Helping to manage the schedule for, and possibly writing and/or submitting basic proposals to trusts and foundations.
Events
- Support the team by recording and sending fundraising materials to those raising money for us through events and challenge event.
- Helping to develop, organise and deliver events.
Individual Giving
- Supporting our Individual Giving programme from an administrative point of view, including sending out pre-written emails to our supporters etc and ensuring first-class stewardship.
- Using our fundraising platform Enthuse to produce reports to support the team (and finance) with relevant information and insights.
- To ensure all donations are processed and on the fundraising tracker correctly, supporter records are kept up to date and supporters are thanked in a timely manner.
General
- To be the first point of contact for all fundraising enquiries that come in by telephone, email, and post.
- Supporting other activities in the fundraising team when needed, sending out materials to fundraisers and supporting logistics, diary management and support the organisation and delivery of meetings and events when needed.
- Attend meetings and take concise and accurate minutes.
- Support the Head of Fundraising and Business Development to produce trackers and spreadsheets which help to measure the team’s performance and results. This includes ensuring income is allocated correct from third party platforms and working closely with the Finance Team to ensure that we can report fundraising results and forecast accurately and in a timely way.
- Support with stock control and ordering for our material assistance project, LifeSupply which also forms part of the department.
- Support all income generation activity with the collation of information from other departments, external organisations or though research.
- Other general fundraising and administration duties, as and when required to ensure the smooth running of the department including assisting in other team projects when they arise.
- Undertake other tasks and duties as may be reasonable which will contribute to the overall success of the Fundraising and Business Development team or the charity’s business objectives.

Lead Policy Analyst - Climate
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, 35 hours per week
Location: The role can be based in London, UK, or one of the following WaterAid Country Programmes: Kenya, South Africa, United States, Sweden, and Ethiopia (subject to right-to-work eligibility in the respective countries).
For the UK Location: we offer hybrid working: A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face-to-face, in a WaterAid office. For UK-based staff, WaterAid is located at Canary Wharf, London and this will be your location and contract base.

The successful candidate will collaborate across WaterAid - both in member countries as well as in country programmes - supporting the design of climate-resilient policy agendas and adaptation measures to achieve targeted national, regional and global change.
About the Role:
As Lead Policy Analyst-Climate, you will be a senior member of WaterAid's Global Policy and Research team. You will lead in developing informed WaterAid positions and options on building the resilience of WASH services to climate change; advocate for WASH as a key adaptation measure and contributor to stronger and more efficient systems; and highlight the urgent need for WASH services as worthy of consideration in climate financing.2
You'll also:
- Develop top-notch research initiatives and robust policy responses to the challenges presented by climate change and advocate for resilient WASH as a key adaptation measure;
- Lead in developing and implementing WaterAid climate resilient WASH influencing and thought leadership agenda;
- Represent WaterAid at global climate conventions, including CoPs and select national and regional climate discussions, to clearly articulate organisational positions and narratives, influence policies, and advocate for WASH inclusion in climate financing to be made easily accessible for poor, vulnerable communities in the global south;
- Work closely with our Country Programmes, WaterAid members, and International Programmes Department as a technical and strategic policy advisor on climate change;
About You:
- Experienced in working in public policy and advocacy on issues related to climate change with an extensive personal network in the climate action arena;
- Experienced in research, policy analysis, preparing policy/advocacy briefs and papers with impeccable verbal and written skills in English;
- Experienced in climate-related disciplines, such as environmental/earth sciences or other climate-related disciplines; water resources management experience to be considered an asset but not mandatory;
- Qualified from an internationally recognised university, with research experience;

Job Description
The Head of Advocacy and Policy will be responsible for developing an excellent Advice Service and Retention Team to support and advise students effectively to enable excellent student experience and satisfaction.
This role will lead on the development of effective insights, representation and support initiatives/campaigns for students, across our three campuses at Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway.
This role will enhance work with the diverse student population of the University of Greenwich and lead a dynamic team to ensure students have consistent and accessible services that contribute to positive student experience.
This role sits within the wider Membership Services department, together with other key areas consisting of; Activities, Sport, Academic Communities, Representation and Democracy, we provide a high-quality service for students, that they can shape, steer and be at the heart of.
This postholder will be part of the GSU Senior Leadership Team and will be expected to contribute to department and organisation wide strategic development.
The post holder will:
- Have expert knowledge in areas of in relation to Advice and Retention and policies and legislation relating to such activity
- Support and develop strong student-led communities and campaigns in areas of: Advice, wellbeing and retention so that members can thrive
- Provide line management support to staff so that the team have up to date, specialist advice skills, knowledge and understanding of University regulations, policies and procedures that may affect the work of the Advice service and oversee engagement across Greenwich’s 3 campuses
- Undertake casework and provide expert advice for the team on all aspects of Advice
- Lead on the project management of wellbeing/health promotion campaigns and initiatives throughout the year, as well as any external bids through bodies such as OfS
- Oversee the Retention and Wellbeing Project work, and other relevant projects with external partners
- Lead on insights work relating to retention, wellbeing and support
- Lead on responses to external consultation and enquiry responses, including but not limited to OfS, Department for Education, OIA and Universities UK
- Support elected officers to deliver on campaigning priorities
- Ensure the Advice service has the skills and is equipped to support the diverse needs of students at Greenwich and Kent at Medway.
- Provide regular insights and reports on the GSU Membership to inform our strategy and service provision
- Work with other Heads to develop relevant and modern Front of House services for each GSU campus ensuring ease of access and consistency for all members.
Key Areas
- Be an engaged and active member of the Senior Leadership team, contributing regularly and working collaboratively with peers
- Provide leadership, strategic direction and day to day operational management to the Advocacy and Policy: recruiting and inducting members of staff, motivating, supporting and developing team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles as well as manage performance
- Develop a proactive results driven culture within the team, ensuring agreed objectives and targets are delivered, whilst promoting a collaborative approach to working with internal departments
- Develop succession plans and identify training and development opportunities within the team
- Be accountable for the quality of outputs of the team
- Provide support to the Officer team helping and equipping them, particularly in their roles as representatives and providing pastoral support and guidance.
- Ensure the whole organisation is aware of and understands the work of the Advocacy and Policy Team and its contribution to our strategic objectives
- To maintain expert and up-to-date knowledge on sector policies and regulations relating to advice, retention and student success, providing relevant guidance to officers and staff as required.
- Develop and promote a culture of continuous improvement across the team to ensure we can adapt to changing students’ needs and priorities, as well as building on successes and preparing for the future.
Strategic Development
- Contribute to the strategic objectives of GSU, with a particular focus on advice, support and wellbeing in relation to the student experience
- Develop and oversee a new and innovative approach to proactive health and wellbeing campaigns that empower students to look after themselves and each other, as well as seeking support
- Lead on Access and Participation Plan Engagement, acting as the key contact on this area with the University.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with relevant senior UoG staff and departments including Student Academic Services, Faculties and our partners at Kent Unio
- Develop and oversee the Advice service to support advocacy initiatives at multiple levels within the University, ensuring both students and University stakeholders view GSU as a credible and reliable source of information on the needs of students.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Develop and oversee a structured approach to gathering, analysing and reporting on data relating to engagement of students with our services and to student views on key issues relating to retention and success
- Develop and oversee processes of collecting quantitative and qualitative data from casework to analyse trends and inform feedback for the SU and university
- Ensure evaluation mechanism are embedded in the teams working practises and that findings are shared and used to implement learnings with the goal of improving services
- Support Officers by preparing information, statistics and trends about key services to be shared within the University committee cycle
- Be responsible for the implementation of service standards for the Advocacy and Policy Team and to monitor and report on adherence to these standards
- Prepare materials to apply for any relevant quality mark accreditations for the service.
Budget and Financial Management
- Manage a budget relating to Advocacy and Policy including any restricted funds.
- Be responsible for the teams resources, ensuring these are effectively allocated, managed and controlled
- Review and establish processes, systems, polices and where appropriate standard procedures to maximise efficiency ensure deadlines are met and a positive return on investment
- Review and provide narrative for scrutiny at monthly management meetings with the Finance Team
Stakeholder management
- Collaborate with GSU colleagues, particularly the Student Voice and Engagement Teams to ensure we have a consistent approach to how we work with and support students
- Work with students through our representative structures and forums to ensure we shape services students want and need, taking into consideration the varying campus priorities
- Maintain strong relationships with key university staff to develop, deliver and evaluate collaborative projects and interventions supporting advice and retention
- Attend meetings relating to Advocacy and Policy as well as associated areas at both GSU, the University and externally, included, but not limited to regional networks
- Identify opportunities to share best practice and represent the work of GSU and your team to the wider HE community, through conferences and publication.

About the role
As Senior Consultant – Organisational Development you will play a central role in the design and delivery of INTRAC’s Organisational Development (OD) offer as a core member of INTRAC’s OD Team. This includes contributing to a portfolio of OD consultancy, research and training assignments, either in a lead role, or as part of small or multi-disciplinary team with INTRAC network members, staff and partners, building on your expertise. You’ll be responsible for providing a mixture of content expertise, quality assurance and job management as well as designing and delivering training and facilitation sessions – often online, with participants from a range of contexts. You’ll help us build a global network of consultants, nurturing existing and new relationships, developing partnerships and securing resources.

The Role
Global Greengrants Fund UK is looking to hire an energetic and passionate individual who will play a key role in collaborating across teams to support finance and grantmaking. They are responsible for the smooth running of all transactional processes for grants, payments, reconciliations, and financial reporting. They will ensure that financial transactions are properly allocated, recorded, and maintained and assist in the preparation of audit data as well as supporting project reporting to aid in the preparation of the annual statutory audit and project reports.
As part of the finance and operations team, they will join a growing team currently staffed by four members in the UK. In the present accountability structures, the Finance and Grants Officer, GGF UK is line managed by the Director of Finance and Operations, GGF UK while building and working in more collaborative ways.
The Candidate Profile
The successful applicant will have significant relevant experience in a similar role in a charitable, environmental, development, social justice, feminist, gender, human rights, and/or grantmaking organisation. They demonstrate knowledge and experience in charity/nonprofit grant accounting/financial issues and dealing with both financial and grant information and processes, understand accounting principles, and have knowledge of accounting, grantmaking, and budgeting processes. They have cash management, banking, and payment experiences. They demonstrate excellent administrative and organisational skills, and the ability to ensure the accuracy of work and demonstrate precise attention to detail. They will have the skills to give, receive, and work with feedback constructively. They also thrive in a virtual environment, motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions. Multiple language skills would be ideal, while English fluency is a must.

About the Team:
The Global Policy team plays a leadership role across the WaterAid Federation in setting WaterAid's policy change agenda to achieve sustainable and equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene globally. The role of the Global Policy and Research Director is pivotal to ensure the credibility and robustness of policy positions throughout WaterAid.
The Director and the teamwork with other relevant colleagues across WaterAid - both in other members as well as in Country Programmes - supporting the design of policy agendas relevant to those contexts. The role will play a major part in realising WaterAid's ambition to achieve national change through its research, policy work and global priority advocacy and campaigns.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will play a major role in: 1) ensuring that WaterAid's policy positions have relevance for and are rooted in Country Programme experience, robust research evidence and the wider international development agenda; 2) supporting the development of policy capacity within WaterAid's Country Programmes; and 3) contributing to global advocacy and campaigning strategies.
The position ensures quality controls are in place and is responsible for the control and mitigation of policy related risks to WaterAid's reputation. The Global Policy and Research Director plays a significant role in representing WaterAid, its work and public policy positions to high-profile, informed and critical external audiences.

Vision and direction
- Articulate a clear and compelling vision for WaterAid's policy change agenda, that is based on robust evidence and analysis, practical and programmatic experience, a good understanding of the political economy of WASH at national level and the wider global agenda on the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Work collaboratively with others to achieve these changes and help deliver an increase in the scale and impact of WaterAid's influence to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6;
Policy agenda setting and development
- Provide robust analysis for identification of the key bottlenecks to achieving universal access for WASH and provide support to strengthen the case for prioritisation of the WASH sector with key policy and advocacy targets.
- Lead and manage a team of policy experts working on the key areas of sector governance; development finance; water; sanitation; health and hygiene.
- In collaboration with regional and country colleagues and the policy team support the development of robust national visions for how to achieve universal WASH, underpinned by analysis of key bottlenecks that is holding back progress for universal access to WASH.
Research
- With the Global Programmes and Advocacy Executive, the policy team, the Programme Support Unit and country colleagues identify a set of policy research priorities for WaterAid, identifying the major knowledge gaps that underpin the lack of progress in the WASH sector and develop the research proposals to fill these gaps.
- Collaborate with PSU research and learning staff to coordinate and align with programme / technical level research and learning initiatives.
Advocacy strategy development and implementation
- In partnership with the Campaigns Director and International Affairs Director and relevant senior advocacy leaders (especially at the Global Programmes and Advocacy Executive), support the design of global advocacy strategies and campaign plans on priority issues.
- Work collaboratively with others to ensure that our advocacy and campaigns decisions and strategies are based on robust analysis of the political context at play;
- In partnership with Policy and Campaigns Department Senior Management Team, Regional Directors and Country Directors, support the development of national advocacy strategies.
Policy team leadership
- As a member of the Department's Senior Management Team, share responsibility for shaping the department influencing approach, champion a matrix style of working with teams and colleagues around the world.
- Lead the Policy Team by creating a coherent and ambitious vision of WaterAid's policy agenda, develop a culture where diversity is valued, foster collaboration as a way of working and nurture strategic integration with other departments.
Organisational leadership
- Contribute to WaterAid's strategic direction and its positioning in the public policy environment.
- Be an active member of the Global Policy and Programmes Executive.
- Play a leading role in WaterAid's Global Strategy process.
About You:
- Post-graduate [or equivalent] qualification in one of the following areas: water, sanitation, hygiene behaviour change, development economics, social sciences or other relevant areas
- A proven track record in successfully building, leading and managing dispersed teams and fostering high performance through communication, empowerment and feedback.
- Demonstrable and extensive policy experience preferably in the water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
- Robust analytical and research skills.
- Proven ability to operate strategically, with a track record of winning significant policy change in challenging political contexts and leading others to do the same.
- Demonstrable experience of working effectively at a senior level in global organisations across diverse cultures, multiple networks including governments, international institutions, think tanks, research bodies and key opinion formers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesise significant amounts of information and prepare compelling and nuanced briefs for a wide range of internal and external audiences.
- Experience of lobbying at ministerial level with the gravitas to be an effective influencer and ambassador for WaterAid.
- Extensive experience in international development covering water, sanitation and hygiene issues (especially the agenda around strengthening the WASH sector), development economics, economic justice and inclusion and equality

About the PVRI
We’re a small charity with a global reach and an important purpose: to reduce the burden of pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) - a serious condition that can lead to heart damage and trigger symptoms like breathlessness, chest pain, fatigue, poor growth, fainting, and light-headedness. PVD can reduce both quality of life and length of life, but it isn’t widely recognised or well-understood.
Our aim is to improve clinical care, education, and PVD research. About the role
We are seeking a Marketing Officer to help grow and service the charity's international membership, increase the value of our membership offer, increase our income, and deliver our e-learning programmes. You’ll help ensure our members are informed about the latest developments and learning opportunities, and they’re valued for their contributions to the PVRI. No two days are the same. One day, you might be writing content for our website and social media channels, and the next, you might be welcoming respected speakers and attendees from over 30 countries to our scientific webinar.
We are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. You’ll need to create successful marketing plans and grow our membership. You will also bring excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate high-quality webinars.
