Role Overview
The Athlete Learning and Development Manager will design and coordinate a comprehensive learning and development programme for emerging athletes, their parents and caregivers, and alumni. This will be delivered both in person and online.
This is an exciting time for SportsAid as we expand the support we offer beyond financial assistance, building on the foundations already in place. As part of our evolving approach, we are strengthening the educational resources available to them, ensuring they have access to the guidance and tools they need to thrive both on and off the field.

The role:
This key role will add substantial grant-making and strategic capacity to the AFF team, which currently consists of 7 people reporting to the Director of A Fairer Future. The role will take on existing relationships in the form of a portfolio of organisations at various points in their funding journey. You’ll be part of Marie Curie’s England Policy and Public Affairs team, working closely with colleagues across our research, caring services, and innovation teams. We work collaboratively with the Ambitions Partnership - a coalition of 35 national organisations - to drive meaningful change in policy and practice for palliative and end-of-life care. Our work is underpinned by evidence, lived experience, and a commitment to tackling inequities in care.
This is your opportunity to design and manage the delivery of a new and exciting programme of work for the Ambitions National Partnership for Palliative Care and End of Life Care, working with senior NHS and statutory and voluntary sector partners. You’ll also lead an innovative Marie Curie pilot focusing on working through primary care to improve end of life care in care homes. Your expertise and evidence-led approach will help shape decisions at local, regional, and national levels - creating a more equitable system for those at the end of life.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading delivery of the Ambitions Partnership’s new work programme - setting clear outcomes, managing budgets, and keeping activities on track.
- Developing partnerships across the health and care system, fostering collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Enabling evidence-sharing by producing high-quality reports, briefings, and resources for policy and practice audiences.

Purpose of the job
Primarily, you’ll own responsibility for our small to medium grant pipeline, so we're looking for someone with a track record of successfully securing five figure funding from Trusts, Foundations, or Corporates. As well as writing high quality, comprehensive and persuasive funding applications, you’ll need to manage reporting and relationship management with the funders you successfully engage with and oversee wider fundraising areas, including playing a key role in our social media and communications, supporting sponsored event and London marathon runners, and playing a key part in planning our annual fundraising events. We see significant potential for growth within the role with the capacity for the right candidate to progress to Senior Fundraising Officer level within the first 12-18 months.
