Job description

New opportunity not to be missed! Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, is looking for Policy and Research Officer to join our policy team based in London. In return, you will receive a competitive salary plus excellent benefits.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months and the closing date for applications is 28th September 2021, 12 noon. Interviews are expected to take place in the first week of October.

The role is full time (37.5 hours per week) with an annual salary of £28,768.

Centrepoint helps vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Together with our partners, we support thousands of homeless young people each year.

Centrepoint’s Policy and Research team work to support young people by conducting research to better understand the causes and impacts of youth homelessness, raise public awareness and campaign for policy change.

We recently secured funding to complete a year-long project on food insecurity.  We are seeking a Policy and Research Officer to work with us for 12 months to complete in-depth research into homeless young people’s experiences of food insecurity, and then use the findings to influence policy and practice in this area.  This is a great opportunity to lead your own project from end to end, from the details of the research design through to dissemination of the findings and recommendations.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Carrying out research interviews and workshops with homeless young people and key stakeholders
  • Designing and analysing the results of a quantitative survey of young people.
  • Analysing research data to identify key themes and develop key recommendations
  • Working with colleagues across Centrepoint to ensure effective completion and dissemination of the research
  • Building strong relationships with key external stakeholders to ensure the research has maximum impact

As the ideal candidate, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally, including presenting at events
  • An ability to build links and negotiate with a wide range of organisations, and liaise with senior staff, external stakeholders and young people.
  • Ability to manage a complex project and organise a demanding and varied workload.

In return for your efforts you’ll receive a competitive salary, excellent training and development, and a host of staff benefits including:

- 25 days of annual leave per year

- Excellent training package to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to build a new career

- Employer pension contributions of 4%

- Access to Cycle 2 Work loan scheme

- An interest-free travel loan

We seek to challenge discrimination and are committed to fairness and equality within Centrepoint. We welcome applications from anyone with direct experience of being homeless or using young people's services.
