Our amazing team of volunteers helps us run over 600 shops. Our stores sell lots of great donated and new goods to help to raise vital funds. These funds are then used to make a real difference to disadvantaged children, young people and their families across the UK.

Over 60 donation centres receive and distribute 100’s of bags of stock every single week. All of these donations need to be lifted and shifted so they end up in the right shops - we don’t require a weightlifter, but you will be need to be physically fit to help move the many donations we receive.

Retail Assistant – CURRENTLY RECRUITING

Location: One Hop Shop, Main Street, Douglas, ML11 0QG

Skills required:

• Must be 14+ and able to get to the shop
• Interested in animal welfare and be passionate about pets
• Retail experience is a bonus but not essential
• Must be comfortable around dogs as the shop is dog friendly (if you have a dog, there is also the ability to bring them to volunteer with you and they will be able to relax in the back room)

Role involves:

• Working with a volunteer buddy at the shop
• Helping on the shop floor talking to customers and engaging with dogs
• Restocking shelves, making up stock and recanting products into storage bins
• Keeping the shop tidy, organised and doing stock take
• Picking products, making and packing online orders
• Making enrichment toys

Time commitment:

• One 6 hour shift per month
• The shop is open Fridays (10-2), Saturdays (11-5), Sundays (11-5), Mondays (10-2)

About the volunteer role

The aim of our E-Commerce Assistant role is to provide administrative and operational support to the E-Commerce Manager, assisting with online sales, customer service, and digital marketing initiatives

Key tasks

· Product Listings: Assist in creating and updating product listings on our e-commerce platform.

Purpose of Role

The main purpose of the post is to manage the Gift Shop for Swanage Pier Trust. This is a customer facing role and will require good customer service, retail and administration skills. A good knowledge of retail will help. The postholder will need some experience in a retail role. A flexible approach and a great sense of humour will help. 

Task Duties

To be responsible for the trust gift shop and act as a first point of contact for visitors, members of the public, trustees, volunteers and staff.

To have a flexible working approach and to help coordinate cover by volunteers and staff at all other times.

To efficiently manage and direct enquiries.

To be responsible for the sale of merchandise in the shop and online and to oversee shop stock levels.

To liaise with shop suppliers, place orders and record new stock on the till system.

To ensure that the gift shop area and displays are kept tidy, stocked and well presented.

To assist with the administration of shop income.

To identify and uphold health and safety measures.

To maintain confidentiality and ensure equal opportunities is upheld at all times.

What happens next?

After you apply, the manager will ask you to come in for an initial chat. This is not an interview, just a chance to get an idea of what you'd like to do in the shop. From there, you can meet the rest of the volunteer team and get involved with whatever area of the shop takes your interest!

Under the direction of the Team of Shop Volunteers and the Volunteer Officer there are several tasks that are carried out:

· To help ensure that visitors to Milton Keynes Museum enjoy an excellent visitor experience by providing good customer service at all times

· To keep the Museum Shop well stocked and tidy, creating a pleasant retail experience for visitors

Key elements

After relevant training has been provided:

· Give a warm welcome to Museum visitors and act as first point of contact for enquiries of all nature from visitors

· Serve visitors both on admission and retail: use a till and handle cash

· Orientate visitors on entry

· Keep the Museum Shop well stocked and tidy: restocking shelves, maintaining leaflet carousel, labelling products and cleaning the area

· Maintain Health and Safety standards and follow the procedure for reporting incidents

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities raising vital funds for our fight against homelessness and bad housing - and they’re powered by our volunteers!

Suggested Involvement: It’s up to you! We have volunteers who support for one hour a week and others who volunteer more. Many people volunteer for a morning or an afternoon each week, but we’ll have a chat about your availability after you’ve applied.

• Volunteering in the shop

Our retail volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

• Volunteering in a leadership role

Our volunteer supervisors help with overseeing the running of our shop and creating a fantastic environment for our customers. You may be involved with coordinating and supporting other volunteers, operating computer systems, and being a key point of contact for the shop.

Skills and Experiences Required:

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked in a shop before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow Shelter Scotland’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for Shelter Scotland. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of bad housing or homelessness.

Induction, Learning and Development:

To enable you to take part in this opportunity Shelter Scotland will:

• Welcome you with a Volunteer Handbook
• Provide training, induction, and ongoing support from your Shop Manager to help you feel confident in your role
• Refund any out-of-pocket expenses in line with Shelter Scotland’s volunteer expenses policy
