Join us at Shaw Trust as a Volunteer Sales Assistant and help us raise vital funds to support communities across the UK. As a not-for-profit charity, all our proceeds go to helping people around the UK. 

As a Volunteer Sales Assistant, you will be the friendly face of our shop, making donors, customers and supporters feel welcome. 

You’ll be serving on the till, handling cash and card payments, answering queries and creating a welcoming atmosphere in the shop. 

Our friendly shop team will give you all the training and support you need to make you feel comfortable and confident here. We believe that everyone has something to offer, even if you have no experience in retail.

The role includes helping brides pick out a dress for their big special day, chatting to the relatives and making the experience one to remember! The St Barnabas Shop in Worthing town Centre offer a wide range of beautiful affordable outfits, including wedding dresses, suits and prom dresses.

You’ll get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus you’ll be part of a fantastic team of volunteers. We are ideally looking for assistance on a Saturday and one day during the week, however please do get in touch to discuss availability.

Role summary

To assist with the picking, packing and despatching of New Goods orders to all St Helena shops, via the Donation Centre delivery operation.

Main duties of the role

• Assist with the picking and packing of New Goods stock, preparing it for pick-up via the Donation Centre delivery drivers

• Assist with the unpacking of goods from outside suppliers

• Work as part of a small but busy team

r• Ad hoc printing, laminating etc when required

Role Purpose:

To assist our charity shop team(s) in raising the essential funds which allow us to continue supporting local children and their families. 

Tasks & activities

Supporting with the day-to-day running of our charity shop, in which some of the activities may include:

• Handling, processing and attractively displaying donations,

• Providing excellent customer service and serving members of the public on the till,

• Being an advocate for Forget Met Not by promoting the work we do and the importance of raising funds.

Personal qualities & experience

You will need to have an interest in retail and customer service. Previous experience of working in retail is useful, but not essential as full training will be provided.

For this role you will need to be:

• Friendly and enthusiastic

• Honest, reliable and have a willingness to learn

• Self-aware as well as able to reflect on your own experiences and feelings

On site we have two shops to volunteer in. The Showroom is Martlets primary furniture and home goods store and the Discount Shop is home to our £1 clothing rails. Both are hubs for our local community to share stories and bag a bargain! We work together with the warehouse to take in the majority of donations for the charity.
