We are looking for a Domestic Abuse Advisor & Trainer

Salary: £26,000 - £32,000 pro rata

Location: Across Brent Community Hubs and Advance Head Office

Hours: 17.5 Hours per week

About the role:

The postholder will support the delivery of a specialist domestic abuse (DA) project in partnership with Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH) in the London borough of Brent. The role aims to raise awareness and promote best practice in responding to domestic abuse across CLCH staff, improving support for patients impacted by domestic abuse. This will involve delivering training, workshops, and guidance to health professionals, providing consultancy on embedding DA response pathways, and helping CLCH navigate referrals to local domestic abuse support agencies. The role combines professional training, advocacy, and systems change to strengthen the health sector’s response to domestic abuse. The postholder will work across the Brent borough, attending community hubs and co-locating to deliver services when needed.

The postholder may be approached by staff seeking advice or consultation regarding male victims of domestic abuse. While the role’s primary focus remains on supporting women, the postholder will be open to supporting male victims through appropriate signposting and referral guidance. They will also be willing to undertake relevant training (e.g. Respect toolkit) to ensure inclusive and informed responses. Training will be provided.

A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential

About You:

To be successful as the Domestic Abuse Advisor & Trainer you will need the below experience and skills:

• A thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence (physical, emotional and sexual violence, so-called ‘honour-based violence’, forced marriage, stalking and harassment) and its impact on women, children, families and communities.
• Experience in designing, delivering, and promoting engaging training and learning sessions on domestic abuse, tailored to professionals and stakeholders across a variety of settings.
• Experience of partnership working and of maintaining excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders as well as experience of working within in multi-agency environment.
• Ability to provide consultancy and guidance to multidisciplinary teams on domestic abuse-related issues, offering informed advice and support.
• Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, and written), with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse professionals and stakeholders.

Role Requirements

You will play a vital role in coordinating care and supporting the management of the House, serving as a key contact for families and the multidisciplinary team. Collaborating with the House Manager and Placement Managers, you will help ensure that care is effectively planned, resourced, and delivered safely at all times.

You will support the house manager to ensure that the care on house or houses enables the children to access their education and/or rehabilitation sessions, clinics, and leisure activities in their timetable.

You will work as part of a leadership team comprising of a house manager, deputy house manager / deputy clinical lead and a clinical lead (per house) responsible for one or two houses within a rotational model. You will individually (not as a team) rotate at a house level on a twelve-monthly basis.

Role Title: External Communications and Advocacy Lead

This is a rare opportunity to shape the new communications function in a thriving cancer charity, establishing Shine as the go-to charity supporting all young adults living with any type of cancer in the UK.

Responsible to: Co-CEOs

Location: Hybrid, with two to three days per week at Shine’s offices in Blackheath, Southeast London. 

Hours & salary:  Full time (35 hours per week).  Salary range is £39,000 - £43,000pa depending on experience.  This is a permanent job with a three-month probation period.

Main purpose of the role:

A rare opportunity to shape the new communications function in a thriving cancer charity and to establish its reputation as the go-to charity supporting all young adults living with any type of cancer in the UK.

As part of our growth plan, we are delighted to be hiring our first Communications and Advocacy Lead. Working on our external communications strategy to build authority and be the go-to voice for younger adults (aged 20 to 49 years) living with cancer, this person will be responsible for managing all external communications. In addition, will work closely with the rest of the Shine team to ensure consistent external messaging.

Key Responsibilities

These include:

● Develop implementation plans to support Shine’s communications strategy to build authority in the cancer support space.

● Responsible for developing the Shine narrative, brand voice, and talking points to support external stories and campaigns, and to co-create fundraising messages with the Fundraising Manager and Fundraising Consultant.

● Responsible for all external communications with media including national and regional outlets, print and broadcast, digital channels and titles read by healthcare professionals.

● Supervision of the social media output from Shine, ensuring consistency with the overall communications plan. 

●       Ability to represent Shine at external stakeholder meetings.

●    Working closely with the Shine team to raise Shine’s profile through advocacy activities in the cancer community and healthcare professionals.

Person Specification

Essential skills:

● Ability to develop multi-channel communications plans, using social, digital and traditional media platforms

● Knowledge of UK health media including health correspondents and reporters for national news outlets (print & TV and radio)

● A good eye for design, with the ability to manage, develop and implement brand guidelines

● Experience of working with media databases and press release distribution services

● Excellent writing skills and experience of writing materials for media

● Ability to create media angles and stories from data and third-party content

● Identify platforms for Shine thought-leadership, particularly for the co-CEOs

● Strong skills in using online technology platforms including Google workspace, Canva, YouTube and MS Office.

Desirable skills:

Safeguarding Officer

£45,000 - £48,000 depending on experience

37.5 hours per week (Full time)

Home based with travel around the Synod and occasional Synod Office attendance when directed

Southern Synod are seeking to appoint a Safeguarding Officer. The post holder will be the main contact for the churches within Southern Synod to advise them on safeguarding children and adults at risk on a day-to-day basis, as well as providing training to a wide range of people as necessary.  They will have excellent communication skills, broad experience of networking across organisations, expert knowledge of current statutory safeguarding legislation and the ability to work and travel independently. 

Discretion and confidentiality is important, as is an awareness of and willingness to work with the aims, objectives, culture, challenges and Christian ethos of the United Reformed Church. 

 Main responsibilities:

· to be an advocate and role model for safeguarding in the Synod

· to advise and support the Synod and local Churches in safeguarding matters

· to deliver or enable safeguarding training

· to ensure that accurate records are kept, and relevant reports are completed

· to keep abreast of developments in safeguarding and maintain appropriate links

As YoungMinds’ Senior Safeguarding Officer, you will play a key part in helping to promote the safety and wellbeing of everyone who comes into contact with YoungMinds – whether that’s via our Activist programme, our campaigns, individual and corporate fundraising, our Parents Helpline, social media, training and service design work or any of the charity’s other activities. It’s a role that engages with colleagues across the organisation, at all levels, and will give you the opportunity to contribute to YoungMinds’ ‘culture of care’ approach to safeguarding.

You will build excellent, trusting relationships with teams where safeguarding concerns are most frequently managed, and be available to guide them, and all other staff and volunteers, in their day-to-day practice, as well as when a safeguarding emergency arises. When necessary, you will confidently use your knowledge of safeguarding and child/adult protection thresholds to take appropriate actions, including creating and maintaining high-quality records, signposting, and referring cases to statutory bodies for investigation. You will frequently provide support out-of-hours where YoungMinds activities are happening in the evenings, weekends or overnight.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

• Provide safeguarding advice, direction and support to staff and volunteers and take over the management of cases if necessary.
• Manage and escalate referrals to other organisations where appropriate.
• Apply YoungMinds’ procedures for information sharing internally and externally, including keeping records of concerns, incidents and referrals.
• Sign off risk assessments created by teams across the organisation for all events involving young people or where other risks are identified.
• Manage the on-call workload of the safeguarding team and Lead Safeguarding Officers, including the planning of out of hours safeguarding support. Please note: this role will require you to be on-call on a frequent basis.
• Support the Senior Safeguarding Manager in delivering organisational safeguarding priorities and contribute to safeguarding audit processes.
• Deliver safeguarding training across the organisation, including induction and refresher training, and support facilitation of bespoke safeguarding training.
• Share experiences and learning with other YoungMinds colleagues.
• Deputise for the Senior Safeguarding Manager and represent the safeguarding team at internal and external meetings and other events where necessary.
• Champion, contribute to and invest in YoungMinds’ ‘culture of care’.
• Other duties that may from time to time be necessary, compatible with the nature and grade of this post.

We’re recruiting for a brilliant, committed and experienced Service Manager to lead the delivery of Ella’s service model. Leading the frontline team, the postholder will need to demonstrate a person-centred approach to ensure the provision of an excellent aftercare service for women who have experienced trafficking and/or sexual exploitation. As part of the management team, the postholder will contribute towards the development of Ella’s services.

You will be a skilled communicator, capable of developing strong partnerships and working effectively with other community organisations and agencies across London. Service delivery

• Lead the day-to-day management of Ella’s safe houses, and outreach services

• Ensure all caseworkers provide high-quality, holistic support tailored to each woman’s needs

• Ensure casework systems are used consistently and effectively across the team

• Oversee accurate and timely completion of risk assessments, support plans, and case notes

• Provide emotional support and hands-on casework guidance where needed

• Coordinate referrals and ensure women are welcomed into the service with care and dignity

• Lead regular reviews of support plans to ensure women are progressing through recovery stages

• Ensure a smooth and responsive referral process into Ella’s services

• Ensure all data is kept up to date for monitoring, evaluation, safeguarding, and reporting purposes

• Contribute service data to support funding applications and impact reporting

• Provide regular service updates to the Head of Services and contribute to strategic conversations

Volunteer coordination

• Induct, train and oversee social work students and/or interns placed within the home

• Ensure relevant policies and procedures are upheld by self, all volunteers and visitors who come into contact with survivors

• Adhere to and ensure all students and interns have a good knowledge of Ella’s casework management forms and recording systems and oversee the consistent use of these

• Provide regular supervision to students and interns

Safeguarding & health and safety

• Act as Safeguarding Lead for frontline services

• Manage all safeguarding concerns in line with Ella’s policies and procedures

• Work with the Head of Services and Safeguarding Trustee to strengthen safeguarding culture and processes

• Promote a safe working environment for staff and service users, including regular risk assessments

• Ensure all frontline staff are trained and confident in safeguarding procedures

• Respond calmly and professionally to emergency situations

Team management

• Provide line management, supervision, and ongoing support to accommodation and outreach caseworkers.

• Coordinate regular team meetings and reflective practice sessions.

• Support wellbeing of all frontline staff in partnership with Ella’s HR Officer.

• Oversee team and managers rotas and ensure staffing for on-call cover.

• Contribute to the recruitment and retention of a strong volunteer and intern team.

• Monitor and review demanding caseloads to support effective casework and prevent burnout.

Service development and partnerships

• Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in service delivery.

• Implement structural changes to improve quality and efficiency of support.

• Build and maintain local partnerships within the VAWG and anti-trafficking sectors.

• Represent Ella’s at operational-level partnership and multi-agency meetings.

• Contribute to the development of service-related policies, ensuring input from staff and survivors.
