Major Gifts Officer

We now have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and self-motivated Major Gifts Officer with outstanding decision making and multi-tasking skills to join the dedicated Fundraising Department.

Position: 1935 Major Gifts Officer

Location: This role is nominally based in Sidmouth, Devon – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and offers hybrid working (fully remote/home working and flexible working patterns considered)

Hours: full-time, 35 hours per week, 08.30-16.30, Monday-Friday (Please note that we are happy to consider applications on a part-time basis – 28 hours per week over 4 days)

Salary: £30,515 per annum

Contract: Permanent

About the Role

As Major Gifts Officer, you will support delivery of agreed activity within the Major Gifts Team, successfully cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of mid-value individuals and trusts and delivering a range of agreed projects. Working closely with the Major Gifts Managers, you will evolve and continuously improve supporter stewardship and cultivation activity in line with their capacity and propensity to donate. 

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the delivery of the Major Gifts Strategy, improving Major Gifts performance.

• Supporting the Major Gifts cultivation/stewardship programme to grow the number of supporters financially contributing mid value and major gifts.

• Managing, supporting and attending Major Gifts stewardship and cultivation meetings and events, including supplier liaison, supporter invite lists, follow ups and budgets.

• Securing, managing and stewarding a portfolio of active mid-value donors and charitable trusts, delivering compelling bids and donor reports, forging and maintaining strong and enduring relationships.

• Researching current and potential major and mid-value donors to enable a donor-centric approach.

• Delivering and reporting on agreed development and stewardship projects, fundraising targets and KPIs. 

About You

As Major Gifts Officer, you will have experience of supporting or managing mid value or major donors, high value or sensitive customers.

You will have:

• A proven track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising/sales targets.

• Experience of working within a team environment with complex internal stakeholders.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust with donors. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of writing successful bids (fundraising or sales) and summary reports. 

• Strong research and prospecting skills. 

• Project and event management experience.

Deputy Head of Youth Work

The Deputy Head of Youth Work (Targeted & Partnerships) is a crucial role sitting within the Youth Zone Delivery Team. Reporting to the Head of Youth Work, you will be responsible for closely supporting the co-ordination, planning and delivery of an exceptional seven day per week youth offer within a state-of-the-art multi-million-pound centre.

About the Role

Through line management of your team and in collaboration with partners, you will ensure that the Youth Zone is accessed by all young people who need it the most. You will oversee community engagement outreach as part of the delivery ensuring the organisation continues to have a strong reputation and there remains a good awareness of the offer.

You will also be accountable for ensuring strong evidence of effective performance in line with vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives and that the team are afforded continuing professional development opportunities. You will need to be a big voice within a large team, owning and demonstrating a strong ethos, commitment, and dedication to improving the lives of children and young people and uniting them to fulfil their full potential. You will be confident in your abilities and able to deputise effectively for our Head of Youth Work as and when required. You will also be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer.

Key responsibilities include:

• Line management of Female Engagement, Employability, Inclusion Coordinator and Outreach

• Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all sessions including restricted-funding projects 

• Ensure the quality of the youth work offer across all direct report areas meet the standards of the organisation 

• Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships

• Manage one off projects, events and promotional activities 

• Identify suitable restricted-funding projects 

• Support, and in some cases manage, targeted projects as and when they come up, including budget management, and ensuring full monitoring and evaluation compliance

• Ensure that overall programme participation targets are consistently met

• Oversee budget lines of direct reports

• Work with the Head of Youth Work to prepare rotas 

• Working alongside the Head of Youth Work to ensure programmes are structured effectively and safely

Main responsibilities:

- Track progress against audit recommendations, board assurance framework, and follow up on counter-fraud incidents, ensuring timely closure of actions.

Key Criteria:

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Events Fundraising

• Assist in the planning and execution of a diverse range of fundraising events, including challenge events and community initiatives.

Community Fundraising

• Serve as the primary point of contact for community and events fundraisers, delivering outstanding stewardship that enhances their experience with the charity.
• Provide timely and effective follow-up communications with supporters, ensuring they feel valued and engaged.
• Manage our CRM database.
• Maintain accurate records to track communications, income, and supporter preferences, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection laws.
• Continuously evaluate the supporter journey, aiming to enhance retention and engagement.

Administrative and Financial Support

• Process cash and cheque donations, Gift Aid and matched funding claims, ensuring this income is processed and recorded accurately on our database.
• Adhering to fundraising budgets, tracking income, and ensuring effective expenditure management.
• Manage the distribution of supporter resources, conduct stock checks for fundraising materials and ensure an organised work environment for all fundraising assets.

Marketing and Communication

Team Collaboration

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Salary is £27000 - £29,000 (depending on experience) FTE per annum. The role covers 30 hours per week. A minimum of one day per week working in our charity office and the remaining hours working remotely which may be spread across 3-4 days depending on preference and will be discussed at the interview stage. Occasional evening and weekend work subject to our events calendar.

One-year fixed term contract however there is potential to increase working hours and / or extend contract length after 12 months subject to performance.

A full driving licence or the ability to travel to events and meetings within London and the South East is essential.

This role is based at our National Contact Centre in Cardiff. There will be an initial induction period that will run Monday to Friday 9am-5pm for a 4 week period. After successfully completing your induction, you will move to your fixed rota hours.

• Experience working with international human rights standards and/or national rights frameworks, including enforcing them.

Overall purpose of the role

The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional communications to enhance Orbis UK's profile in both the UK and the Middle East. The position is responsible for implementing strategic plans for UK and Middle East audiences, while supporting the Media and PR Manager in boosting Orbis UK's brand presence. The role also includes leading reputation and crisis management responses and plans.

The Media and PR Manager reports directly to this position, and together, they will collaborate to deliver effective communications plans. There will also be opportunities to work with the wider Orbis UK communications team on cross-departmental campaigns, appeals, and events, including VIP visits and integrated marketing campaigns.

This role encompasses communications planning, media relations, stakeholder management, reputation management, copywriting, and at times, event coordination. It requires strong relationship-building skills and the ability to manage projects across different teams and countries. The role is responsible for three key areas of work:

i) Overseeing the delivery of the media and PR strategy to increase brand awareness of Orbis within the UK and the Middle East through pitching and placement of high-quality media coverage, proactive PR initiatives and reactive press office opportunities within a range of publications that align with our target audiences and partnerships. This will include managing the Media and PR Manager, working with key stakeholders such as the Royal Press Office and key funding and programme partners, and supporting delivery of Orbis UK integrated marketing campaigns

ii) Implementing grant communication plans by creating content for website, social media and press activities for key partnerships

Purpose of the job

 We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager to lead and deliver strategic communications across all key external audiences. This role is central to driving awareness of the impact of UK Youth’s work, amplifying the voice of young people, and advocating for urgent action to support youth work and organisations across the UK. It is a demanding role, requiring close collaboration with the Head of Brand, Communications & Marketing, CEO, and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to enhance visibility and engagement at the highest levels. 

Key responsibilities

 Strategic Communications & Messaging:

• Develop and execute UK Youth’s external communications strategy to increase awareness, engagement, and advocacy. 

• Craft compelling messaging that effectively communicates the impact of our work, the challenges facing young people, and the importance of youth work. 

• Ensure consistency of messaging across all communication channels and materials. 

 Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:

• Support the Head of Brand, Communications & Marketing in delivering high-profile campaigns and media strategies. 

• Partner with the CEO and SLT to enhance their visibility, providing strategic communications support, speechwriting, and media briefings. 

• Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including policymakers, funders, and media contacts. 

 Media & Public Relations:

• Lead on media engagement, securing press coverage that highlights UK Youth’s impact and advocacy efforts. 

• Draft press releases, opinion pieces, and statements that position UK Youth as a leading voice in the youth sector. 

• Manage reactive and crisis communications, ensuring UK Youth’s reputation is protected and strengthened. 

 Campaigns & Content Development:

• Develop and oversee the production of high-impact content, including reports, blogs, speeches, and social media materials. 

• Lead on storytelling initiatives that amplify young people’s voices and highlight the real-world impact of UK Youth’s work.

Experience

This role involves one to one support for Carers of people with dementia, providing information, guidance, and advocacy, developing and delivering dementia training for Carers and facilitating support groups. This role also includes coordinating and delivering monthly Dementia Cafes for people with dementia and their Carers, including supervising cafe volunteers.

As a Training and Development Officer, you will be working directly with teachers and other education staff supporting their journeys in taking curriculum learning and play outside and to utilise their school grounds. The Role

You will be a part of the youth service working on the local council sites and a community centre in Wakefield and Bradford, where you will build trusted relationships with young members (age range 5 to 17). Working with families living on site, with some engagement (outreach) of young people living on yards, in houses and potentially roadside. You will get to know them, their goals, talents and challenges and together with them, you will build an ongoing programme of activities.

The youth work programme through weekly group work and regular 1-1 sessions, covers such key issues and topics such as mental health, education, relationships, staying safe, human rights and future hopes. The sessions are planned around building key core skills such as building confidence, leadership and team building skills, positive communication and joint decision making.

The youth service supports young people to be less isolated, have better connections to opportunities, have greater pride and the opportunity to celebrate their ethnicity and pride. Developing partnerships with organisations who can bring their projects to our young people and support them to access opportunities off site.

About You

You will be confident to work in a busy, fast paced, community facing environment that is committed to person-centred working, with active listening skills and an empathetic approach.  You will be resilient and adaptable, and enjoy working in a role with competing priorities and deadlines.

Knowledge and experience;

• Have at least 2 years experience of working with young people, either as an employee, volunteer. 
• Have experience of delivering group work for children and young. (Co-production and involving young people in session design and delivery) 
• Have some experience in keeping records and designing session plans. 
• Good working knowledge and understanding of safeguarding principles, policies and procedures 
• Have skills in building trusted relationships and developing children and young peoples strengths
