MAIN TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

About CARAS:

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.

About the CARAS ESOL Team:

Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.

About the Role:

CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face adult ESOL classes in Tooting. Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one 2-hour session every Wednesday during these times: 

• Mondays ESOL 9:30 to 13:30

• Tuesday 9:30 to 11:30

• Tuesday One-to-one employability and language learning support 15:00 to 17:00 

Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

• Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes; 

• Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

• Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session; 

• Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class; 

• Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project; 

• Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential; 

• Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements; 

• Following CARAS’ confidentiality, safeguarding, health & safety, equal opportunities, data management and all other policies as relevant.  

Requirements: 

Essential: 

• To be 18 years or older; 

• Able to travel to our community centre in Tooting (travel expenses can be reimbursed); 

• An interest in education and English language teaching; 

• To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse backgrounds; 

• To be reliable and punctual; 

• Excellent communication skills, especially with people who are new to English; 

• The ability to volunteer on Mondays or Wednesdays during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of three months; 

• Currently resident in the UK; has asylum-seeker or refugee status 

• *Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check; 

• Able to attend volunteer induction training (online) prior to start of role. 

 *DBS and proof of residency is not necessary if you are a CARAS community member who is more recently arrived in the UK. 

Desirable: 

• Knowledge of community languages, such as Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali or Spanish. 

Through volunteering with us you will: 

• Gain experience of English language teaching; 

• Meet new members of your local community; 

• Learn about different cultures; 

• Learn about issues relating to refugees and people seeking asylum; 

• Work as part of a friendly, welcoming team;

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

Expected to undergo a DBS check, e-learning modules, safeguarding level 2, fundamentals, principles, youth leader first aid and a day warrant.

About the Role:

We are in the process of implementing a fundraising CRM to efficiently manage our outreach activities. To support this project, we are seeking to recruit a Data Volunteer who can help us clean and migrate the historical fundraising data into the new database. This is an entry-level role, best suited for a candidate who is interested in developing a career in data. Data skills are high in demand so will suit someone keen on learning new data skills to enhance their CV. For the right candidate this will provide an opportunity to learn how not-for-profit organisations work and enable them an entry into the charity sector. 

Ideally, we are looking for someone with good Excel skills (any knowledge of additional data tools such as MS Access, Power Query, etc will be an advantage), and some understanding of data related process. Hands-on training will be provided to the right candidate. As the focus of this role will be on enhancing the quality of the data, we are seeking a highly organised person who can pay greatest attention to detail. As part of this role you will be working with our database project lead.

To succeed in this role, we need someone with: 

• Excellent eye for detail and a commitment to high standards 
• Interest in learning data skills and have good Excel skills 
• Good inter-personal skills and the ability to interact with the wider Street Child UK team 
• A passion for Street Child’s mission 

We are looking for volunteers who can work for a minimum of 3 days a week (minimum 1 day in the office) for a minimum of 3 months. Ideal for those who live in the Greater London area as we will be able to provide transport costs only up to £25.

Service Team Volunteer

Our service team volunteers undertake an administrative role that provides support to our advocacy service teams in a variety of ways. 

As a service team volunteer in England, you might: 

• support the local advocacy team as needed, for example administrative tasks

• drop off promotional materials at various locations 

• attend events with other staff or assist in organising small local events

• support staff with presentations

• accompany advocacy staff on visits 

You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that the Independent Visitor Volunteers generally volunteer at evening and weekends due to the children’s and young person’s availability.

Role: Activities Volunteer

What will I be doing?

Our amazing Activity Volunteers play a key role in supporting blind children and young people to take part in a variety of activities. These range from sports, creative (singing, performing, art), audiobook club and day trips. Our activities are designed for blind young people to meet new friends, gain confidence, learn new skills/sports, and become more independent. The skills you have developed in your career and personal life will be invaluable to our young people.

• supporting the sessions 

• facilitate social interaction between the participants 

Who are you?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow RSBC’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for RSBC. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of sight problems.

At 2497 (Cosford) Squadron, we’re proud to be part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation that empowers young people aged 12 to 20 to develop leadership skills, resilience, and confidence through exciting opportunities like flying, adventure training, sports, and community service.

We meet twice a week and we’re always looking for volunteers who are willing to try their hand at anything. Why we want you

As branch chair you and your branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

What you will be doing

· Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.

· Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.

· Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.

· Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office

· Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.

· Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.

· Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.

Children With Voices is a grassroots community charity based in Hackney, committed to supporting young people and families through initiatives that promote mental health, well-being, food sustainability, and youth empowerment. Through creative programming like Jumping Beans, the Food Hub, and holiday clubs, we aim to foster inclusive, healthy, and thriving communities.

Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate and creative Volunteer Photographer/Videographer to help us capture engaging photo and video content across our community projects. This role is ideal for someone looking to build their portfolio, gain experience in the charity sector, and contribute to meaningful causes. You'll work closely with our Social Media Manager and be an essential part of how we tell our story to the public.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend and photograph/video activities at our Food Hub on Thursdays

• Capture content during Jumping Beans and other community events

• Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to plan, produce, and edit engaging visual content

• Support the creation of digital assets (short videos, reels, photos, behind-the-scenes clips, etc.)

• Organise and file digital content for use across platforms

• Respect the privacy and safeguarding needs of children and families

• Represent the charity in a professional and compassionate manner

Time Commitment

• Mondays: Office-based (between 11am–4pm, hours flexible) to work alongside our Social Media Manager

• Thursdays: On-site at the Food Hub (between 12pm–2pm, flexible)

• Additional remote editing/content creation hours based on your availability

• Flexibility offered around academic or work commitments

Person Specification

Essential:

• Access to your own camera or video equipment

• Some experience in photography and/or videography (personal or professional)

• Strong visual storytelling skills and creative flair

• Basic editing skills (e.g., using Canva, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or similar)

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively

• Respect for confidentiality and safeguarding protocols

Desirable:

• Experience working with community organisations or in event settings

• Interest in youth empowerment, food justice, or social impact

• Familiarity with social media trends (e.g., Instagram Reels, TikTok)
