The Role - Volunteer Content and Donor Communication Specialists

JOB PURPOSE

This role exists to:

•        Craft and manage communications for donors, stakeholders, and the wider community

•        Translate survivor-led stories and CIC activities into impactful messaging

•        Develop content for emails, newsletters, social media, and fundraising campaigns

•        Support the Fundraising Director in building donor relationships through clear, engaging, and ethical communication

•        Ensure all content aligns with CIC values, trauma-informed practice, and safeguarding policies

You are the voice that converts purpose into action.

Responsibilities:

• Develop clear, engaging, and accurate copy for all donor and community communications, including: Emails and newsletters, Fundraising campaign materials, Donor updates and acknowledgements andEvent promotions and volunteer communications.

• Maintain a consistent organisational voice and messaging across all communication channels.

• Collaborate with the Fundraising Director to ensure content aligns with campaign goals, donor engagement strategies, and organisational priorities.

• Work with the Social Media Team to ensure content supports multi-channel campaigns and wider communications objectives.

• Track donor engagement, feedback, and responses to communications to identify patterns and refine messaging for maximum impact.

• Support segmentation, personalisation, and targeting of communications to ensure relevance and donor retention.

• Ensure compliance with data protection (GDPR), safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all communications.

• Collaborate with volunteers and other teams to adapt content for different audiences, ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity.

• Proofread, edit, and quality-check all content before publication to ensure accuracy and professional presentation.

• Contribute to content planning, calendars, and scheduling to maintain regular, timely, and coordinated communications.

• Assist in developing templates, guides, or SOPs for donor and community communications.

• Provide guidance and mentoring to other volunteers involved in content creation or communications.

• Monitor performance metrics for communications and produce reports to inform strategy and campaign planning.

• Ensure all communications reflect and uphold the C.I.C’s values, culture, and brand identity

What We’re Looking For:

Essential / Highly Valued Experience

• Professional or voluntary experience in copywriting, communications, or journalism.

• Experience creating email newsletters, donor updates, or fundraising communications.

• Strong understanding of donor engagement strategies and how content impacts retention.

• Experience creating content for social media with organisational or campaign objectives in mind.

• Editing, proofreading, and content planning skills.

• Ability to maintain a consistent organisational voice across platforms.

• Familiarity with GDPR, data protection, and safeguarding requirements for communications.

• Skills in tracking and interpreting engagement metrics and refining communications accordingly.

• Collaborative skills to work effectively with multiple teams, volunteers, and directors.

• Ability to adapt content for different audiences and ensure accessibility and inclusivity.

• Strong organisational and project management skills for content planning and scheduling.

• Experience in creating templates, guides, or standardised communication processes.

Desirable / Can Be Developed

• Experience using email marketing or newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, CiviCRM).

• Knowledge of digital content analytics tools to monitor performance.

• Experience mentoring or supporting volunteers in communications roles.

• Ability to integrate donor communications with wider fundraising campaigns and events.

• Familiarity with multi-channel campaign planning and content strategy.

• Skills in visual content creation or basic design for communication purposes.

• Equivalent professional or voluntary experience in communications, content creation, or donor engagement highly valued.

Chatterbox Befrienders offer one-to-one telephone support and will call a client once a week offering companionship and a listening ear for an individual who might otherwise go unheard. Chatterbox volunteers befriend a variety of people including carers, socially isolated individuals who are struggling with loneliness, people with ill health and those that 
have been bereaved. 

THIS ROLE COULD BE FOR YOU IF:

REQUIREMENTS OF A BEFRIENDER INCLUDE:

- Calling your client once a week for a chat of up to 45 minutes; this is a 26 week initial commitment, at the end of which each client’s needs are reviewed

- Completing an online call log record promptly after each phone call

- Ensuring immediate contact with the Chatterbox Coordinators if you feel that the client might be a risk to themselves or others

- Liaising with the Chatterbox Coordinator on a regular basis regarding the service, as well as discussing personal learning and development needs

- Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on befriending vulnerable adults

Why we need your help

We provide free games and activity sessions with tailored support for children with additional needs and disabilities. We support over 100 children, known as our ‘athletes’, with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, cerebral palsy, non-visible disabilities, and global development delay. At KEEN London, we strive to use fun and games to improve young people's wellbeing, and personal, social and emotional development as well as broadening experiences to increase skills and confidence.

Purpose of the role

Our Volunteer Coaches are the backbone of a KEEN London session! You’ll provide one-to-one support to an athlete, helping them to access all the activities on offer, achieve their personal development goals, and of course have tons of fun! You can expect to get involved with a wide range of playground games, ball games, nature walks, and creative activities. From time to time, we also run trips for our athletes, and previous trips have included trampoline parks, high ropes courses, pedalo boating and slime-making classes.

Tasks and activities

● You’ll support our athletes to engage with the session, and have fun while they’re doing it.

● You’ll help our Service Coordinators develop goals for our athletes, track their progress, and give them lots of encouragement along the way.

● You’ll work with your Service Coordinators and fellow Coaches to come up with new games, develop resources, and plan activities.

● We want our athletes to enjoy being active, making friends, and trying new things - and we want you to join in the activities with them!

● Our athletes love working with energetic and enthusiastic people, and we’ll ensure that all your hard work will be rewarded with a great time.

Please note: To ensure that you are equipped and ready to take on this role, there is a thorough application process which includes but is not limited to: an information session, an in-person onboarding training evening, an enhanced DBS check, reference checks and a safeguarding quiz. All elements of the onboarding process have to be completed satisfactorily before you can start volunteering in this role.

Volunteer Agreement

All KEEN London volunteers are asked to observe the Volunteer Agreement. This agreement is binding in honour only, is not intended to be a legally binding contract between us and may be cancelled at any time at the discretion of either party. Neither of us intends any employment relationship to be created either now or at any time in the future.

Our expectations of volunteers:

● To maintain and uphold the reputation and good name of the charity.

● To treat other volunteers, staff and service users fairly and with dignity, and to respect everyone equally, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or gender identity, age, (dis)ability, religion or sexual orientation.

● To ensure appropriate levels of confidentiality and data protection are upheld.

● To uphold our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. This includes ensuring that when out of sight of other adults a ratio of 2 adults to 1 athlete is in place, and that you report any concerns you have about the safety and wellbeing of athletes to the Coordinator as soon as possible.

● To adhere to all health and safety instructions.

● To be punctual and reliable when attending sessions, and inform the coordinator via phone call as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.

● To attend at least 2 sessions per month for at least 6 months.

● To bring energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn to all sessions.

Role Description Internal Ref Number: COACH4

As a Community Network Volunteer, you will organise and facilitate meetings and events for a group of families so that they can get to know one another and build a supportive community. This could be anything from arranging informal meetups in the local park to organising online or face to face meetings, to setting up local events. The group would be able to share knowledge and experience amongst one another and just be there for one another.

Knowledge and experience required

• Enthusiasm and some time to spare! 

• Personal experience, and understanding of the issues facing adoptive parents 

• Good listening and communication skills

• Ability to respect other people’s differences and choices 

• Some IT and administration skills

Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) are at the heart of the cadet experience. As a CFAV, you will guide and support young people, lead or assist in training sessions, and help create a safe, supportive and rewarding environment. You can volunteer as a uniformed or non-uniformed instructor - no military experience is required, all training will be provided.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Support, mentor and encourage cadets, helping them build confidence and life skills
• Assist with planning and delivering training sessions, including subjects such as; first aid, map reading and navigation, fieldcraft, drill and turnout, expedition and adventure training, leadership tasks and teamwork
• Participate in community events, remembrance parades, competitions and weekend activities and residential camps.
• Help with cadet development, assessments and progression as set out in the Army Cadet Syllabus.
• Promote safeguarding, inclusion and wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to deliver a varied and engaging programme

Skills & Experience (Not Essential):

• Experience of working with young people (youth work, teaching, coaching or similar)
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Leadership, organisation or teamwork abilities
• Enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn

About the Army Cadets

The Army Cadet Force is a national, community-based youth organisation that provides young people aged 12–18 with opportunities to challenge themselves, learn new skills and grow in confidence. Through a variety of activities, both military-themed and non-military-themed adventurous activities, teamwork, leadership training and community engagement, cadets develop resilience and skills that last a lifetime. What you will be doing

• Arranging to talk with potential beneficiaries (on the phone or face to face) at a mutually convenient time
• Understanding peoples’ support needs and gathering information to assess their circumstances
• Typing written case reports to apply for financial assistance
• Sign-posting to services providing specialist support, such as mental health or housing support
• Keeping beneficiaries and the SSAFA regional office up to date with progress
