Schools Ambassador Volunteer Volunteer Roles in Bristol
Young Humanists are the voice for non-religious young people. Two-thirds of young people are non-religious. We provide them with the community and platform that their voices deserve. We think young people have a right to be heard and that more should be done to ensure policy reflects their views.
Young Humanists is led by a committee that drives national and regional events throughout the year. They are supported by a team of local Ambassadors, who are the ‘on the ground’ representatives, working as part of local humanist or other community groups. We also have a team of volunteers specialising in areas like social media, design and research, who support the committee and individual Ambassadors.
We are seeking a dedicated and driven individual to join our network of Ambassadors, to assist the committee by:
- Putting on events with a view to getting younger people involved (e.g. pub quizzes, campaign work, family-friendly events like coffee mornings or Sunday brunches, litter picks or picnics)
- Be a contact point for other Young Humanists who want to attend nearby groups/events and an ambassador for Young Humanists at regional events.
- Provide local knowledge to make sure we promote relevant local opportunities to our members and, equally, promote Humanists UK and Young Humanist events or campaigns locally.

While there are no set hours we expect that up to three hours per week on average may be spent on the role, with this possibly increasing in the run-up to Young Humanists’ events.
All Young Humanists volunteers should be aged 18 to 35 (with eligibility ending the day before the applicant’s 36th birthday). Much of the work can be done remotely, but it is required that the post holder be based in the UK.

Our challenge
The Community Fundraising Team is an integral part of The Charity Fundraising Portfolio, with an income target of £3m in 22/23 and the team consists of Community Fundraisers based across the UK. Our role is to provide fundraising advice & support to our Supporter Groups, Community Organisations, Regional Corporates, Volunteers & Events.
How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Charity Ambassadors to help develop engagement across each Region, to maximise opportunities to raise funds and increase support from the Community. You will be actively involved with The Charity on the ground and play a key role working alongside the Regional Community Fundraisers, as and when required:
· Identifying various opportunities in your local area to raise awareness of The Charity & our wide range of Fundraising Campaigns. This could anything from contacting your local supermarket’s ‘Community Champion’ and organising an information stand and bucket collection or supporting a Supporter Group meet up in your area.
· Representing The Charity in your area, by undertaking presentations & cheque collections at schools, local companies & community groups
· Helping us to recruit new fundraisers and supporting those who are already signed up for a campaign, in your area. For example, attending a local Twilight Walk or promoting The Big Bake to local companies.
What impact will you have?
By amplifying The Charity's voice in your local area, you'll help increase the impact of fundraising campaigns & help grow funds and support us in accelerating a cure for everyone affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.
We’re looking for people who are:
· Passionate about the Charity and our vision
· Flexible and willing to get involved as and when opportunities arise
· Confident and comfortable in undertaking presentations to a wide range of audiences
· Skilled at spotting new opportunities to raise awareness and funds
· Friendly, approachable and able to communicate at all levels
· A team player, who is also able to work on their own initiative

Time commitment
Initially, we envisage a minimum of 2 or 3 days per month, depending on the regional focus, and this will also be guided by whether you are researching new awareness raising opportunities in your area, or setting up a school presentation for example. Flexibility if a key part of the role as we are often presented with exciting opportunities to raise awareness or funds, at short notice.
Practical considerations
You will receive training from the Community Fundraising Team and ongoing direction from a Regional Community Fundraiser, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity.

- Sitting on the Northern Ireland Humanists committee, providing a formal link to Young Humanists by championing issues that are particularly relevant to young people in Northern Ireland.

- Be a contact point for other Young Humanists who want to attend nearby groups/events and an ambassador for Young Humanists at regional events.

About Us
EduSpots connects, trains and equips over 250 local volunteers who drive community-led change in rural Ghana and Kenya through education centers named ‘Spots’. Our Ghanaian staff team lead programmes in leadership, literacy development and STEM and sustainability, enabling our local volunteers to impact an estimated 15,000 learners annually in underserved communities. We won the Tes International Award in 2018 marking us as the best international education project in the UK for our global learning work, we were recently selected as a Finalist for the Their World Innovation Scale-Up Awards, and our Founder was selected as a finalist for the Global Teacher Prize in parntership with UNESCO.
Internship opportunity
We are looking for highly independent and self-motivated interns who are keen to gain practical skills and understanding relating to education and international development, and provide wide-ranging support to our team in Ghana and the UK, to enable us to increase our impact in a period of growth.
The internship will be remote for 3 months (start date to be confirmed, dependent on availability), with the opportunity of extending this period. The time is 8 hours / week but this can be spread out throughout the week. Due to limited organisational time, we need interns to be committed to the work, and able to work independently. We will consider interns in any geographical location.
You will gain huge insight into education and international development through learning and being inspired on a daily basis on WhatsApp by our active network of 250 volunteers in rural Ghana who are the main focus of our work and our reason for existence.
Key areas of delivery
We have three areas of internship offer currently:
1. Communciations Intern - working with our Head of Communications on a wide range of communications tasks. You should have strong writing and research skills, alongside beginner design and content creation abilities.
2. Fundraising Intern - working with our Trusts and Foundations Manager and our wider fundraising team. You should have the ability to research fundraising opportunities, edit reports, and support our wider community fundraising strategy through hands-on design work, partnerships development and research.
3. School Partnerships Intern - working with our Educational Partnerships Manager who oversees the Student Ambassadors Programme, where students learn about development, lead an activity in support of EduSpots, and reflect upon their own learning and impact. You would support with researching schools and marketing the programme, creating content relating to the programme to share across our feeds, support our online courses and the wider day to day management of the programme such as the certification process.
Personal specification
We are looking for interns with the following:

Strong communication skills - e.g. written and verbal in English

Strong IT skills - e.g. ability to use Microsoft Office, Google Drive, social media etc.

An ability to work highly independently with minimal support, with the proactivity to reach out to team members when necessary

About Us
We're an active and dynamic youth development organisation, and we believe in the power of young people to be the change they want to see in the communities they call home. Our mission is to equip, inspire, and support young leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We're based in the eastern city of Goma and work in three territories throughout North Kivu province, engaging with young people through schools and our three-year World Youth Leadership Development (WYLD) programme, and providing support for their entrepreneurial and artistic pursuits. About the Role
We are looking for two individuals to join our Board of Trustees. These volunteer positions provide guidance and support to the organisation, ensures that The Congo Tree complies with its governing document and legal requirements, and helps us identify and maintain our visions, goals, and values - now, and in the future.
Our ideal candidates will share our passion for supporting young people in the eastern regions of the DR Congo, have a willingness to think creatively and engage in the work and with our brilliant colleagues, and be ready to work as part of a team. Experience in any of the following fields, particularly with a youth or international development background, would be an asser: youth and/or community work; strategic leadership; governance; financial management; fundraising; business and/or microfinance; health, safety, and security; human resources; legal practice; or programmes or operations similar to The Congo Tree.
