Key Details

We are looking for an experienced campaigner with hands-on knowledge of digital campaigning and digital mobilisation techniques, to join our high performing Campaigns and Public Affairs team.
You'll have previously played a key role in successful campaigning activities which have brought about a change in policy and practice, and will be comfortable with fast-paced work.
You'll have a proactive, and collaborative approach which will make sure our campaigning is joined up between the national and regional levels, and that our engagement activities are embedded across the organisation.
In this busy role, you'll co-ordinate our national campaigns activity, helping to lead RNIB's national campaigns activity and strategy, working closely with our Senior Campaigns Manager.
You'll be managing a Campaigns Officer and a Campaigns assistant, providing coaching and support to make our national campaigning as effective as possible.
You'll provide strong project management for our influencing campaigns, whether campaigning to protect disability benefits, or to make streets and transport more accessible for blind and partially sighted people, for example.
You will bring our campaigns to life in a way that embeds lived experience and tells the story effectively for sighted people, driving them to take action. You will own content for our 'campaigner' audience, making sure our communications are effective, whether someone is new to RNIB's campaigns or is already a committed campaigner ready to go the extra mile.
This role will ensure that lived experiences are integrated into our storytelling, and will seek creative ways to motivate decision-makers or the public to take action.
Day to day, you'll collaborate with other teams across Policy, Campaigns, and Social Action to maximise opportunities for driving change, and will make sure national campaigning is aligned with our local campaigning, working with our two Local Campaigns Leads.
You'll also join forces with colleagues in RNIB's Engagement directorate to get campaigning fully embedded in our engagement and volunteering supporter journeys.

About you
As our Senior Campaigns & Public Affairs Manager, we’d like you to have an in-depth understanding of the ways in which UK public policies are formed and reformed, of the challenges associated with delivering policy in the real world and of how civil society organisations like JRF can successfully influence policy change.
You will have an understanding of the structural nature of poverty and how policy may alleviate structural harms and substantial experience of working at progressively senior levels at the intersection of policy development, politics and strategic communications/ campaigns.
You’ll have substantial experience of working in multidisciplinary teams using a range of insider and outsider tactics and compelling examples of developing and implementing influencing strategies that have demonstrably affected the climate of opinion around an issue and ideally, achieved concrete change.
With a proven track record of successfully building relationships with decision makers and influencing their thinking, you’ll have clear examples of writing effectively for a wide range of audiences and of commissioning, understanding and using public attitudinal insights to inform your influencing strategies and/or narrative development.

Role and Responsibilities
We are looking to recruit an experienced, innovative senior legal manager to manage our international Governance & Accountability Programme. The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer (or international development professional with equivalent experience in rule of law /governance / NGO use of legal strategies), with deep enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge of how our partners could use the law to achieve anti-corruption reform. Working as part of a small but dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to learn at close hand what it means to work for an international NGO focusing on how the law can be used to fight corruption and achieve environmental and economic justice. You will develop projects with a range of partners, including international agencies, NGOs, CSOs, governments and government bodies. You will collaborate with a range of volunteer lawyers (law firms and barristers chambers) who are leading experts in their field. You will also nurture, build and maintain relationships with our funders. The role will involve outreach to new partners, programme management, drafting fundraising applications and donor reports, tracking impact, as well as evaluating and learning from projects.

- Expertly advise, assist and brief the Society’s key spokespeople in respect of media relations issues and opportunities.
- Manage, and develop the Society’s statistical ambassador scheme, supporting individuals and ensuring we have a pipeline of spokespeople that reflects the diversity of the data professions.
Content creation and editorial
- Develop communications content including blogs, press statements, posts and thought pieces to communicate our campaigns and policy work.
- Contribute to the operation of the Society’s social media accounts, working with wider staff to ensure we are reflecting the breadth of the Society’s activities across the various platforms.
- Produce write-ups of events and roundtables.
External affairs
- Work with the CEO and Head of Policy and Advocacy to identify and develop relationships with external stakeholders, both UK-based and international and across government, civil society, academia and business, acting as a convenor, trusted advisor and critical friend.
- Lead on the Society’s statistical excellence awards programme, including developing and maintaining relationships with awards sponsors to ensure the awards are both impactful and financially sustainable.

Working for the RSS
Pension and benefits
Our defined contribution pension scheme can be joined after three months in post. Your contributions of up to 8% of salary will be double matched by the Society (making a maximum contribution by the Society of 16%). A training budget, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme and employee assistance programme are also available.
Location
The RSS office is in central London. We offer flexible working arrangements, and this is a hybrid role with a minimum two days a week working in the office. In person attendance for certain meeting is required, including all-staff / team meetings and governance / committee meetings that take place in person. Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be required.
Working hours
35 per week full-time. Applications for job shares, part-time and flexible working will also be considered. The post-holder will be the point of contact for any out-of-office hours press queries.
Holidays
25 days per annum, plus bank holidays and an additional shut down between Christmas and New Year.

Overall purpose of the role
The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional communications to enhance Orbis UK's profile in both the UK and the Middle East.
