Gordon Moody Association
Remote
Dudley, West Midlands
Unpaid role
Contract, Part-time, Flexible
Job description

Gordon Moody is the UK's only charity dedicated to helping people reclaim and rebuild their lives free from gambling addiction. Gambling is now easier than ever. 24/7 access, a seemingly endless choice of games and events to bet on, and high-profile advertising and sponsorship all contribute to making it more difficult for problem gamblers to break their habit. And the impact on individuals, their families and friends can be devastating. We work with people whose quality of life has been severely impacted by problem gambling – providing residential therapeutic treatment, providing a safe environment dedicated to helping those addicted to gambling to quit for good.

Our Chair will play a central and influential role in our work – supporting our continued growth and enhancing the influence and impact we can have on this key issue. You will help to raise our profile and awareness of our work, promoting our achievements and our potential to external stakeholders and identifying opportunities to broaden and diversify our income streams. We are looking for someone who believes passionately in what we do and who has the leadership and advocacy skills to build on what we already do well and enable us to make brave decisions on how to move forward.

Key attributes are likely to include an in-depth practical knowledge of the machinery of government and how to engage and influence decision-makers. Your communication and persuasion skills will be central to this, enabling you to deliver our vital message, while also being responsive to feedback. You’ll be able to adopt an objective and strategic focus that will support effective decision-making and your leadership skills with be vital to realising our ambitious plans, getting the very best from the resources available to us. It’s also important that you believe the value and potential of an organisational culture of diversion and inclusivity and understand the practical steps required to make this happen.
