About this role
The role of the Finance and Payroll Manager is to support the Development and Finance teams to manage and report on restricted income, as well as to manage monthly in-house payroll under the guidance of the Head of Finance. This involves ensuring that we are maximising the use of restricted funding, and that money is spent in line with donors’ wishes and that staff are paid accurately and on time each month. The Finance and Payroll Manager will work within a small Finance team under the supervision of the Head of Finance. They will work closely with the Joint ED, wider Senior Management Team, Head of Development and budget holders throughout the organisation.
They will support the Head of Finance with annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting as well as with the production of the monthly management accounts. They will support the Development team in making grant applications and develop restricted grant budgets for newly secured grants for integration into the organisational budget; they will meet regularly with the Development team and budget holders to review restricted project spend. They will produce reports for funders working in conjunction with our Development Team and casework teams. Contract and location

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Community and Events Fundraiser to join a national charity in order to engage with the community served by the charity to develop and implement plans for maximising income and support from individuals, groups and businesses. This exciting role would mean joining Refugee Action at a crucial point in the charity’s 40-year history, full of opportunity and potential. You will use your creative skills to support the creation of innovative digital content to engage and mobilise existing supporters and add to Refugee Action’s rapidly growing audience. Working between the fundraising and campaigns team, this role will support the Digital Communications Manager to deliver our ambitious digital strategy, focusing on the development of engaging digital content, the management of one of our key supporter databases, and will lead on the engagement and retention work which supports Refugee Action’s fundraising and campaigning.
We are looking for candidates that can demonstrate:
- Commitment to removing barriers to power for people with lived experience, and commitment to anti-racist practices.
- Understanding of how the UK’s hostile refugee protection and asylum system impacts those affected by it.
- Passion and motivation to raise vital funds to support refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK.
- Strong understanding of how campaigning can achieve change and shift power.
- Strong understanding of the role of digital tactics in the development and execution of campaign strategies.
- Strong writing, editing and proof-reading skills, with experience of using these within a fast-paced environment and adapting content for difference audiences.
- Experience of maintaining and nurturing social media communities and creating impactful digital content.
- Desirable: knowledge of Facebook advertising, including the set-up, management and analysis of ad performance.
- Experience using Adobe creative software – particularly InDesign and Premiere.
- Experience of using Engaging Networks or similar system or proven ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Experience working with website content management systems.

The postholder will work alongside a fundraising marketing team working on our four key fundraising domains (acquisition marketing, retention marketing, church & community engagement, legacy & in memory fundraising) and will lead on developing new and existing campaigning initiatives, appeals and projects that will both integrate and fit alongside our other marketing activities.
Key areas of focus for the postholder would be:
- Generating and leading on the exploration of ideas for various advocacy marketing / movement-building activities
- Leading on new and existing advocacy marketing appeals and projects
