The Major Giving Department at the NSPCC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to become part of the Statutory Team, securing significant income from national, devolved and local government, research grant-makers and commercial tenders.
The Senior Public Sector Development Manager will work with the Lead for Public Sector Development, the Associate Head of Philanthropy, another Senior Public Sector Development Manager and two Public Sector Development Managers towards a shared income target of around £5 million per annum. These funds will create ground-breaking NSPCC projects that support millions of children, and help prevent abuse across the UK.
The recruited fundraiser will work at both a national and local level to lead on securing six and seven-figure grants to help the Statutory team achieve its annual income target. Working across the charity, they will build relationships with senior stakeholders, and source and share information with funders through engaging written materials, phone conversations and face-to-face meetings. Alongside managing their own portfolio, they will think strategically and lead on maximising new public sector funding streams.
The Major Giving Department is open and supportive with an active social life. The wider Trusts & Statutory Team has grown considerably - increasing its annual income by more than £6 million since 2017/18. With bespoke training opportunities, room for significant development and growth, and the support of colleagues and resource teams, the role will provide the opportunity to make a positive change for children and families across the UK.
The successful candidate will have:
- A track record of successfully bidding for six and/or seven-figure donations
- The ability to lead on producing compelling written material of the highest quality

The Role
Based either at our Head Office in Basingstoke, Hampshire, remotely or hybrid, you will lead and manage the development and delivery of income growth from corporate partnerships.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to work with Sustrans as part of the Fundraising and Supporter Engagement team as the E-Commerce Manager.
In line with our ecommerce strategy, Sustrans has invested over the past years to increase sales through our e-commerce shop and now needs to find new approaches to maximise revenue.

Working closely with people in prison, prison managers, Shannon Trust staff and volunteers you will ensure development of our criminal programmes maximising literacy and numeracy learning opportunities for people across a number of prisons and contracts in your area.
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings, managing teams and contract performance, underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. We are looking for an experienced project manager to manage the development, delivery and review of the National Bereavement Care Pathway (NBCP) partnership project and embed it across NHS Trusts in Northern Ireland to drive up standards of care. This pathway addresses the inequity of bereavement care offered to, and experienced by parents when a baby dies. The project is being sponsored by the Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland.
This is a high-profile and rewarding role which will involve developing and delivering a NBCP in Northern Ireland which is parent-centred and drives up standards of care. You will use your project management skills to help to initiate, develop and deliver the project, taking an early view whether to adopt a phased or an all-in approach amongst NHS Trusts in Northern Ireland. Trust and foundations
- Update the trusts and foundations database and managing the pipeline of activity
- Prepare tailored applications to trusts and foundations
- Manage reporting deadlines to funders
- Work closely with the artistic teams and Executive Director to shape proposals
- Create budgets working with the Executive Director, Finance Director, Artistic Directors and Project Leads
Individual and Corporate Giving
- Create individual giving schemes, exploring the potential for new initiatives such as membership and legacy programmes
- Cultivate relationships with potential individuals and steward donors
- Research potential corporate supporters – both corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sponsorship
- Pitch to potential donors and supporters
Event Planning
- Create a programme of cultivation events which could:
- thank and nurture existing donors
- act as a precursor to giving
- introduce individuals and companies to potential campaigns
- begin new relationship development
Good practice, such as ethical fundraising
- Development of an ethical fundraising statement, in partnership with Executive and Board
- Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations
- Supporting team in being part of a fundraising culture
General
- Day to day management of fundraising budget, creating and monitoring income targets and delivering compelling company messaging around charitable giving on and offline.
Ideal candidates will have skills and experience as shown in the candidate pack including:
- Evidence of alignment with charity’s vision, mission, values and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Lived experience of disabling or marginalising barriers.
- Understanding and experience of performing arts landscape, key figures, organisations and funders.
- A curious, inclusive, flexible and collaborative working style with proven ability to work as part of a team across all levels..
- Clear communicator, team player, tolerant of other views.
- Fundraising track record, delivering against targets (in a similar sized arts or not-for-profit) and of securing significant donations at the five-figure level or more.
- Experience of monitoring and reporting against targets and managing budgets.
- Adept at supporting and structuring negotiations and at building relationships with stakeholders including Arts Council England.
- Thorough knowledge of the relevant fundraising legislation, regulations and financial issues and fundraising obligations of arts charities/Arts Council National Portfolio Organisations.
- Strong literacy, administrative, time management and organisational skills.
- Proactive approach to continuing professional development.
- Experience of dealing with public sector organisations at a senior level.
- Membership of relevant educational and/or professional bodies.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for:
- Financial oversight and leadership.
- Providing robust financial information to inform and improve operational management and decision making to further the charities’ objectives.

Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA/ACCA) (essential)
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience as an accountant (essential)
- At least 3 years’ senior leadership experience (essential)
- At least 3 years’ experience managing a staff team (essential)
- At least 3 years’ experience in registered charity OR health and social care (essential)
- At least 2 years’ experience of working at Board level (desirable)
- Significant experience of both accounting and financial management environment.
