We are looking for a talented Communications Assistant with organisational, people and coordination skills to join a busy and varied directorate in a professional membership organisation.
The Communications Assistant will be an integral role in the communications directorate, supporting the Director and teams to deliver on ambitious objectives. We’re looking for an organised self-starter with good writing skills, who can turn their hand to event organisation, support with our publications and a variety of communications tasks, as well as offering support to the Communications Director and Heads of Teams.
You’ll be calm, have good administrative skills, adept at plate spinning and able to manage a varied workload, whilst learning huge amounts about communications and customer engagement. You will have demonstratable knowledge, interest, or experience of working within a Communications team, and have strong communication skills, with an understanding of how to effectively plan and manage your own time.
What you’ll do
- Provide admin and communications support to our flagship publications,
- Work on our annual censuses, including data verification and stakeholder engagement
- Support with branding and corporate communications activity
- Help to coordinate and deliver events
- Draft and deliver a range of communications, from website content to briefings.

We’re looking for a passionate, proactive and experienced Senior Press Officer to join the media team. You’ll use your excellent comms skills to design and deliver media strategies that achieve cut-through in crowded media spaces, raise our profile and brand awareness, and support campaigns that deliver wins critical to building a fair, zero-carbon future.
As part of this role, you will bring to life our work as an environmental justice organisation and ensure that the voices of those most at risk and already hardest hit by the climate and nature crises, both in the UK and overseas, are at the centre of our media and comms stories.
Key Skills:
- Extensive experience pitching and placing impactful stories across mainstream UK broadcast, online and print media.
- Proven relationships with journalists, editors, producers and broadcasters at national, regional and specialist climate and environmental outlets.
- Ability to work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines and respond quickly to reactive opportunities.
- In-depth knowledge of the UK media landscape and emerging comms trends.

This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract, expected to last up to 12 months, with the freedom to work both in our London office and remotely anywhere in the UK. What you’ll do as part of our team
Strategy + planning
- Develop strategies for the projects on which you lead, working with the Digital Strategy Manager as needed to ensure we are always delivering strategic excellence
- Schedule and attend planning and project review meetings with clients

Project management
- Manage projects from conception through to build, coordinating work from both our creative and tech teams

Essential criteria
- 4+ years’ experience working in digital marketing, with proven experience of developing strategies and campaigns that deliver results against goals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience of managing multiple stakeholders and building strong working relationships across functions
- Being comfortable working in a remote-first, fast-paced environment
- Experience of using digital platforms to build and send mass emails, and comfortable managing email lists
- Experience of managing ads in Meta, and proven ability to interpret the data to optimise against goals
- Excellent organisation and attention-to-detail with ability to juggle multiple priorities and keep to tight deadlines
- Experience of managing projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and to scope

- Fluency in spoken and written English

Salary and benefits package
Starting salary: £37,620 (outside of London, with a £3k annual travel bursary)/£42,135 (inside London)
Holiday: 25 days/year (pro rata to 20 days per year due to the 4 day week), plus bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year.
