The Philanthropy Manager plays a pivotal role in this transformation. Senior Grant Making Manager – 12 months fixed term contract

The Senior Grant Making Manager plays a pivotal role in the success of funding in our England Directorate and in particular our responsive funding in the London, South East and East Region.

Reporting to the Senior Head of Responsive Funding in the London, South East & East Region, you will play a key role in delivering our strategy, ‘It Starts with Community’, maximizing the impact of our funding across the region with a particular focus on London where you will work with others to develop our regional and London specific strategic direction, ensuring excellent management and oversight of day-to-day grant making and learning.

You will own key stakeholder relationships within London and play a lead role in developing the regions’ stakeholder engagement and relationship strategy. You will be a key representative of the National Lottery Community Fund in the region as part of the Regional Leadership Team, deputising for the Head of Region as necessary.

You will also be a key member of the England Leadership Team, maintaining strong relationships with colleagues across the England Directorate including other regional teams, key business partners as well as colleagues across The Fund.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading on funding strategy and delivery for London. Working to support the delivery of our Reaching Communities programme and the diversification of our funding portfolio to include partnerships work, more intentional grant making and our commitment to being more than a funder.
• Stakeholder Engagement across London and the region – To maximise our impact, to ensure a joined up collaborative approach and for learning and awareness raising, we need to work with others. You will hold, develop and maintain a strong network of external relationships.
• Leading, supporting and inspiring a team of 3 x Funding Managers (who you line manage) –providing support and overseeing the work of their teams (approx 20 staff), with a focus on delivery, values and maintaining wellbeing. You will also provide leadership to the full regional team.
• Leading through change and supporting the delivery of our new operating model and ways of working. This includes ensuring teams understand and adapt to change, that operating structures align and our processes and procedures are consistent across all of England responsive teams.
• Engagement locally and at an England and UK level. – You will liaise with and hold key relationships with other regional hubs and England funding teams as well as functions in Business Support, Knowledge and Learning and Communications, to ensure a joined up one Fund approach. You will also need to maintain solid relationships across a number of key Corporate functions including Finance, Legal, Audit, Service Design/GMS amongst others.

About Panathlon Challenge

Panathlon is a registered charity (no. 1072638) providing sporting and volunteering opportunities for young people with disabilities and special educational needs across England and Wales.  The charity delivers over 1,000 external events each year and engages thousands of young leaders to officiate and support its programmes. 

Role Purpose

The Operations Manager will ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of Panathlon’s programmes and events by leading the operations function, managing resources, systems, logistics and suppliers, and ensuring high standards of health & safety, compliance, and participant experience. This role is pivotal in enabling Panathlon to scale its impact, maintain operational excellence and deliver a safe, inclusive sporting experience for children and young people with SEND.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day operations team across event delivery, logistics, venues, equipment, and staffing.

• Oversee the planning, scheduling and execution of events across the UK (both on-site and virtual/hybrid), ensuring budgets, timetables and quality standards are met.

• Develop, implement and maintain operational systems, processes and best practices (e.g., venue booking, transport, catering, equipment hire, staff/volunteer deployment).

• Manage and develop relationships with suppliers, venues, contractors, and third-party service providers.

• Lead on health & safety, safeguarding, risk assessment and compliance for all events and operations (ensuring that the programme is safe, inclusive and meets regulatory standards).

• Work closely with the COO, Event Managers, Finance, Communications, and Fundraising teams to ensure operational alignment with strategy, budgetary constraints and organisational priorities.

• Monitor operational performance, generate metrics/insights (e.g., number of events, participant satisfaction, cost per event, incident reports) and produce reports for senior leadership and trustees.

Person Specification

Essential skills & experience:

• Proven experience in operations, logistics or event delivery (ideally in the sport, education or charity sectors).

• Strong project planning and organisational skills, able to manage multiple events/streams concurrently.

• Experience of managing budgets, suppliers and operational contracts.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills (working with schools, venues, volunteers, regional teams).

About the role
The Regional Strategic Manager will act as the main point of coordination and leadership for our work across all 9 regions, ensuring local support is high quality, consistent, and strategically aligned with national goals.

You will work closely with our Local Support Organisations (LSOs), local authorities, Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), system partners and care associations to build strong regional networks, ensure insight flows between local and national levels, and embed DCH and Better Security, Better Care (BSBC) priorities.

Reporting to the Programme Director, you will be part of the national delivery team but focused on regional strategy, delivery oversight, and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities
• Provide strategic oversight of all regional delivery activity, ensuring alignment with the national programme objectives.
• Act as the main point of contact for LSOs in the region, supporting them to meet their grant requirements and develop high-impact local delivery plans.
• Coordinate and facilitate regional & cross-regional networks, communities of practice, and events.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key regional stakeholders including local authorities, ICSs, ADASS branches, and care associations.

About you

Position Overview

The Senior Programme Officer will support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Friends of Palestinian Universities’ advocacy and awareness, and building UK-Palestine higher education links programmes. This role involves working closely with the director, wider team, and partners, managing projects, and ensuring the effective delivery of initiatives aimed at mobilising support for Palestinian universities and raising awareness about the challenges faced by Palestinian students and educators.

The role requires excellent coordination, communication, and partnership-building skills, including supporting structured engagement with Palestinian higher education representatives through regular convening, briefings, and follow-up.

Key responsibilities

1. Building UK–Palestinian Academic Links

• Support the development and implementation of Friends of Palestinian Universities’ annual building links plan in line with programme and organisational goals.

• Support the design and delivery of partnerships and collaborative projects with Palestinian universities, including research, fellowships, and exchange initiatives.

• Liaise with partners in Palestine and the UK to map opportunities for meaningful and equitable cooperation.

• Create and maintain an accessible and up to date database of UK, Palestinian and international networks. 

• Contribute to organising Friends of Palestinian Universities’ annual conference.

2. Advocacy & Awareness-Raising

• Support the development and implementation of Friends of Palestinian Universities’ annual advocacy & awareness plan in line with programme and organisational goals.

• Research and prepare public-facing resources (e.g. briefings, reports, speaker events) for academic, policy, and civil society audiences.

• Build relationships with UK-based higher education networks, staff unions, academic departments, and student societies.

• Contribute to organising Friends of Palestinian Universities’ Education, Occupation & Liberation programme of events.

• Support the Director and Palestinian partner representatives with research and briefings as necessary for public facing engagements. 

3. Monitoring & Evaluation

• Work to achieve KPIs agreed in the annual work plan.

• Work with the Director to plan and evaluate programme strategy and delivery.

• Monitor programme impact and contribute to reporting for donors, Trustees, and partners.

• Produce quarterly reports on programme activities and outcomes for the Director and Board of Trustees.

4. Representation & Convening

• Represent Friends of Palestinian Universities in coalitions, conferences, and sector forums as appropriate and with the agreement of the Director.

• Facilitate spaces for Palestinian scholars, students, and advocates to share knowledge and shape agendas in line with their collective priorities.

5. General Support and Team Contribution

• Actively support and promote Friends of Palestinian Universities’ mission and values.
