Job description

Want to use your skills in New Business Development to play a vital role in making clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone everywhere?

Join WaterAid as Senior Bid Manager to change normal for millions of people so they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good. On top of that you'll be joining a 2018 Great Place to Work® award-winning organisation.

The WaterAid Institutional Funding and Partnerships Team has been tasked with leading WaterAid UK's (WAUK) ambitious new strategy to grow the size of it programmes through restricted income. It is expected that this growth will primarily come from institutional partnerships with some of the world's leading bilateral and multilateral development agencies, including DFID, USAID and SIDA.


This is a full-time permanent position, with an estimated 8-12 weeks travel including some varied and unsocial hours.

As our Senior Bid Manager in the Bid Management Team, you will lead the bid development process for large complex institutional grants or commercial tenders working closely with key stakeholders including internal Water Aid colleagues in London and in-country as well as other key suppliers and/or partners towards achievement of Water Aid's strategic programme objectives in priority countries.

Your duties will include:
* Lead the overall bid management process including project conceptualisation and design process, working in-country or remotely, with Water Aid member/country office colleagues and external partners resourcing technical input consistent Water Aid's global and country programme strategies e.g. via in-country design workshops;

* Lead and/or coordinate proposal writing and/or editing e.g. past experience and organisational capacity, technical approach, logical framework, theory of change and project management.

* Lead on the management of all stakeholder relationships especially consortium partners in the case of commercial contracts, negotiating business/scope of work and management arrangements, prepare teaming/consortium agreements; coordinate activities related to key personnel e.g. drafting job descriptions and lead/support recruitment processes, participate in interview panels.

* Work with finance colleagues and teams to ensure project budgets achieve optimal organisational cost recovery while demonstrating Value for Money principles.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree level or equivalent Social Sciences qualification, or equivalent relevant work experience. S/he will have demonstrative significant experience of leading the bid management process including writing and securing large and/or complex tenders or grants, preferably for DFID, USAID, Global Affairs Canada, SIDA or other major bilateral or multi-lateral donors.

Knowledge of key technical areas, relevant to WA UK's work such as WASH, health, education, child protection, gender, livelihoods or resilience is desirable. French language skills would also be an advantage and evidence of behaviours and/or a working style that reflects WaterAid's values

Salary: £38,000 - £43,790 with excellent benefits.

WaterAid is currently located at Durham Street, Vauxhall. However, we will be leaving our current location in the summer of 2020 (likely to be June/July 2020) and moving to 20 Canada Square, Canary Wharf. Therefore, the London Office location and contract base, if you are successfully offered the role, will change. This will be discussed at the interview stage with you.
