About the Role

As our Director of Finance and Resources, you’ll be a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, leading on:
 

• Strategic financial planning and advice for future growth and sustainability of the Charity
• Operational Financial Management, Reporting and Performance 
• Financial Accounts and Annual Reports
• Financial Control, Governance, Audit, and Compliance
• IT, Facilities, and Information Governance
• Management of teams and contracts in the Finance and Resources Directorate

You’ll work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to support our strategic vision and ensure sound financial stewardship to deliver support for survivors now and into the future.  The position is offered on a flexible, hybrid and part time basis. 
 

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:
 

• Professionally qualified (or equivalent) in finance management and accountancy
• Experienced and deeply knowledgeable in senior financial leadership and strategy development in the voluntary sector/an equivalent size charity 
• A skilled and experienced leader and manager of people, contracts and major service change projects
• Collaborative, analytical, and proactive in problem-solving
• Committed to feminist principles and to equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Ideally also skilled in overseeing IT, building and premises management and information governance, with training and support available where required. 

As well as experienced Directors, this role would also suit an exceptional Head of Finance looking to step up into their first Director role.

About You

The purpose of the Chief Executive Officer’s role is to guide and plan the strategic development and overall direction of the organisation, providing strong leadership and co-ordination to ensure the aims, strategic objectives and priorities of the organisation are achieved.

To do this, we need someone who embodies the following attributes, skills and experience.

You will have:

• Senior leadership experience within a voluntary, community, public or values‑led organisation, with accountability for strategy, performance and resources.

What the job involves

As our Senior People Services Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day heartbeat of People Services and make sure every colleague has a smooth, supportive and high-quality experience throughout their time with us.

You’ll be the person who keeps things running brilliantly: setting the pace for operational delivery, supporting managers with confidence, and making sure our processes are simple, clear and compliant – ensuring delivery through an experienced and high-performing People Services Team. This is a hands-on leadership role partnering with People & Culture leadership and peers to drive the People Strategy and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture. You’ll shape how we deliver People Services, spotting ways to improve, simplify and modernise what we do. You’ll lead a team covering critical activity relating to all stages of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding, contracts, HR systems and data, payroll oversight, policies and employee relations, and you’ll be the operational authority and escalation point for complex or high-risk issues.

What we want from you

You will provide information, guidance, and emotional support to individuals and families across the UK, helping them navigate services such as adult social care, benefits, housing, health services, and transition into adulthood.

The role also plays an important part in ensuring that the Fragile X Society continues to provide trusted, accurate, and meaningful information for families and professionals.

A structured handover and training period will be provided by the current postholder to help transfer specialist knowledge.

Key responsibilities

You will:

• Lead the handling of adult and carrier enquiries including those relating to Fragile X associated conditions such as FXTAS
• Provide emotional support and practical guidance to families navigating complex situations
• Maintain up to date knowledge of adult benefits, legislation, and social care services
• Work with clinicians, services, and professional networks supporting people with Fragile X
• Ensure the Society’s information resources and website content remain accurate and relevant
• Support colleagues through mentoring and case discussion where appropriate
• Contribute to the continued development of the Society’s information and support services.

About you

• disability services

• rare disease charities
• advocacy or advice organisations.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our grants team to support the charity in delivering approximately £5m of grant awards per year.
