A new role, the Fianacial Accountant will support the Head of Finance in managing GWT’s day to day finances as well as providing routine financial advice to the head office staff.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role is a lead for ensuring financial compliance within UK head office including Fundraising and Gurkha Welfare Advice Centre (GWAC) and will ensure the effective financial management of UK activity through to trial balance and ensuring accuracy of monthly reconciliations.

This is a hands-on financial accounting role needing a practical, problem solving approach and has the opportunity to add real value to the team.

Key duties and responsibilities

This role’s primary responsibilities will be as follows:

• Lead the month-end processes for UK activity (head office, Fundraising and GWAC) to ensure that deadlines are met through:
  • overseeing the timely and accurate financial transaction processing in the finance system;
  • reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts and resolving discrepancies in a prompt manner;
  • ensuring the accurate and timely reconciliation of all bank accounts; and,
  • end to end reconciliation of income through the fundraising CRM to finance systems (including Department, Restriction and Trading).
     
• Be responsible for the timely payment of invoices by the Finance Assistant.
   
• Draft monthly finance data dashboard and quarterly management accounts including variance analysis, liaising with budget holders as required, and assist in preparing annual budgets for UK activity.
   
• Lead for financial compliance in the UK including raising awareness through events such as the Charity Fraud Awareness Week, and reviewing all financial policies on annual basis.
   
• Manage and support two part-time team members through training, professional coaching and development.
   
• Deputise for the Head of Finance on matters related to financial management of UK operations including representing at the senior management meetings.
   
• Support the Head of Finance in the year-end process and preparation of financial documents for annual audit.
   
• Proactively seek opportunities for continuous improvement within financial systems and accounting processes and controls.

Since 2014, ARC has pioneered the use of financial incentives to improve access to healthy food and combat food insecurity through our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg projects. To date, we have supported over 11,000 families, including over 20,000 children, to access £3.5 million of fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities.

To deliver this scale, we work with 73 children and family centres and community organisations, 69 market traders and independent retailers, two fruit and vegetable vans and one fruit and vegetable delivery box scheme. We estimate that our projects have generated a total economic value added of almost £9 million for the local economies of the eight locations where we work: five London Boroughs, Barnsley, Liverpool and Glasgow.

About the role  

As we launch our new 5 year strategy we are looking for an experienced Head of Finance & Business Services to help deliver our mission and support the growth and consolidation of the charity. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will play a key role in implementing our new strategy as well as managing risk.

About the Role

The Head of Finance is the financial lead for the Charity with responsibility for driving and implementing good charity financial practice, producing robust financial reports and financial forecasts in line with the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP), as well as providing timely provision of financial information and advice to the Chief Executive and Board to inform strategic decision making.

We are looking for an Interim Head of Finance for an initial fixed period of 6 months, pending the appointment of a new CEO. Role and Responsibilities 

We are looking to recruit an experienced, innovative senior legal manager to manage our international Governance & Accountability Programme. The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer (or international development professional with equivalent experience in rule of law /governance / NGO use of legal strategies), with deep enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge of how our partners could use the law to achieve anti-corruption reform. A more detailed explanation of our organisational and programme strategy is set out in our 2024-2026 Strategy.

Working as part of a small but dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to learn at close hand what it means to work for an international NGO focusing on how the law can be used to fight corruption and achieve environmental and economic justice. You will develop projects with a range of partners, including international agencies, NGOs, CSOs, governments and government bodies. You will collaborate with a range of volunteer lawyers (law firms and barristers chambers) who are leading experts in their field. You will also nurture, build and maintain relationships with our funders. Candidate profile:

As Senior Finance Officer, you will play a vital role at World Heart Beat, ensuring the effective day-to-day management of finances, financial administration, and bookkeeping, as well as informing future business planning. You will work with key personnel across the team, providing guidance and leadership in relation to budget management and financial information to support funding applications and stewardship. You will also provide excellent reporting to support the Executive and Board.

It is an exciting time for the charity, following the opening of World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens in 2023, our second site for music teaching, which includes a café, concert hall and recording studio. The operation of two sites has increased our activities and overheads, making the Senior Finance Officer role even more crucial. We have also established a CIC through which new earned income streams are channelled. The Senior Finance Officer will have the opportunity to develop and shape financial processes and contribute to forward planning.

Senior Finance Manager | £57,500 - £68,900 | Permanent | Fully Remote / Home Based

For the UK's largest not-for-profit social enterprise in the employment and social mobility sector, we are recruiting a Senior Finance Manager. This role will provide high quality financial information and analysis to senior managers and external stakeholders supporting decision-making. This is a highly commercial role, which is key in ensuring service quality is maximised, and financial performance targets are achieved. The Senior Finance Manager will lead a team of 4 and will suit someone happy to work fully remotely whilst developing excellent relationships across a large, multi-location organisation.

Main Duties:

• Budgeting and Cost Control - Lead divisional budget setting and forecasting process
• Coordinate monthly key variance summary in financial performance and KPIs for senior management and external funders and commissioners
• Interpret and present complex financial information to non-finance managers, supporting decision-making and improvements to budget and forecast performance
• Financial Reporting - Maintain robust financial controls across the division and coordinate the audit process with the financial reporting team. Preparation of year end accounts, liaising with auditors
• Lead the team to produce external financial returns to funders, dealing with queries
• Financial Analysis - Support business planning process, and short- and medium-term financial targets, partnering with Operational MDs and Senior Leaders.
• Lead the production of the multi-year financial forecast with the FP&A team
• Lead in planning and managing the year-end accounts closedown process
• Lead and develop workflows to ensure month-end processes are robust
• Work with Project Accounting team to provide finance support in costing, pricing, and tendering of new business opportunities
• Lead and motivate a team of Finance Managers and Management Accountants

Person Specification:

• CCAB Qualified
• Substantial experience of working at senior level in financial management across a complex organisation, ideally working on high-profile contracts with external funders
• Experience leading and motivating a team
• Experience leading strategic work streams supporting annual accounting cycle and longer-term financial planning requirements
• Experience of financial planning, costing, and option / investment appraisals
• Experience of budgeting, planning, reporting, and supporting budget holders
• Experience of FRS and charity SORP would be highly desirable

You will produce year-end accounts and manage relationships with stakeholders. You will support with funding proposals and donor reporting. You will ensure that the day-to-day financial accounting activity of each charity is undertaken efficiently and effectively. You will review and improve systems, procedures, and policies. You will also present financial updates to the Executive Teams and Board, providing strategic advice.

To be successful in this role, you will have relevant finance knowledge, either by qualification or experience. You will have experience of producing management accounts and external reporting. You will have experience using SME accounting software/systems and Microsoft Excel. 

You will have strong relationship-building abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment. You will also be self motivated and have the ability to manage your own time and workload.
