The Candidate
Experience of working in a fundraising team and with independence to raise funds from individuals and to lead on this area within a charity.
Proven track record and specialism in major donor giving.
Experience of writing proposals and reports.
Experience of researching and cultivating individuals including HNWIs .

About the role
A key member of WVUK’s Humanitarian & International Programmes (HIP) management team, you’ll lead the unit that’s responsible for acquiring around £35m of institutional donor funding (grants & contracts) each year, as well as corporate and philanthropic proposal development on behalf of the Strategic Partnership Directorate. Defining and ensuring a consistent approach to delivering quality and timely submissions that are coordinated and informed with input from all relevant stakeholders will be important too, as will ensuring the available capacity and capability of a team to lead submission development. Line managing and developing unit members, providing strong proactive support to other HIP unit managers and playing your part in developing and delivering HIP team plans – all are aspects of this high-profile role.
About you
To succeed, you’ll need proven experience of developing and maintaining relations with institutional donors, analysing their funding requirements and shifting worldviews (particularly DFID/FCDO, EU/ECHO), and working with, managing, and developing relationships with consortium partners. You’ll also need field experience of working in different cultures and religious contexts. Proactive and creative in improving existing processes and developing new ones to improve efficiency and effectiveness, you’re adept at knowledge management within a demanding team environment and used to line managing and training, mentoring or capacity building a team.
You’re an excellent project manager too - someone who’s comfortable working on complex multiple tasks and prioritising to meet deadlines. Expertise in a specific technical area - e.g., child protection, health, nutrition, livelihoods, social accountability, resilience or economic development, would also be useful, as would working knowledge of a second language. More important however, is a general awareness of Christian teaching to appreciate the Christian ethos of WVUK and live their values. The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) tackles serious organised crime across the North West region. The NWROCU carries out investigations into serious and organised crime on behalf of police forces in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and North Wales. The lead force for NWROCU is Merseyside Police, with the Assistant Chief Constable of NWROCU reporting into Chief Constable Serena Kennedy.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Business Partner as a fully qualified accountant to provide pro-active professionally qualified support and guidance to budget holders for the financial management of the ROCU. Job Description
As a Senior Finance Business Partner you will provide pro-active professionally qualified support and guidance to budget holders for the financial management of the ROCU. Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain a professional working relationship with budget holders and senior managers, ensuring that needs of the budget holder are fully satisfied, and SLA's adhered to.
- Responsible for monitoring and reporting upon the financial position of units to relevant stakeholders using appropriate means of communication and methods of financial analysis to ensure an effective and efficient budget management service is provided. This will include attendance at key SLT/Command Team meetings as the finance expert.

- Review and monitor expenditure on supplies and services; and produce recommendations for improved efficiencies where appropriate for effective financial management of the NWROCU budget.

The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will:
- Be a Fully qualified CCAB Accountant.
- Have experience of working within a large and complex financial environment; with specific knowledge and experience of fulfilling a budget management role.
- Have advanced communication skills to deal effectively with a variety of potential stakeholders. This includes the ability to challenge devolved budget managers, and budget holders, present and disseminate financial information effectively to nonfinancial officers, and to present both verbal and written reports to Chief Officers and other stakeholders.
- Well-developed analytical skills, and the ability to pro-actively respond to financial issues as they arise.

This important role will represent FareShare Sussex & Surrey engaging with corporate partners and key stakeholders such as council leaders, politicians and dignitaries across the region.
Using your experience in engagement and relationship management you will work to consolidate existing partnerships and seek new opportunities across Sussex & Surrey, working to build strong relationships locally and encourage partnership, donations, sponsorships and corporate volunteering. The Senior Grants Officer (Business Development) will join ClientEarth’s thriving and growing Business Development team. A key role for securing new grant income, the postholder will play a crucial part in the research and cultivation of potential new funder relationships, and will develop and submit winning funding proposals to trusts, foundations and institutional donors.
They will manage their own portfolio of prospective funders, and undertake detailed prospect research into the foundation donor market whilst liaising with ClientEarth’s global teams across different programme areas and geographies. Working closely with the Business Development Manager, they will identify potential alignment with ClientEarth’s strategic priorities and inform decision-making in relation to funding opportunities.
Meet your Manager
In this role, you will be managed by Alex Wright. A fundraiser for over 12 years, Alex previously worked for a range of national music charities and is a trustee of two arts education charities. As part of the Business Development Team at ClientEarth, he manages the cultivation of new relationships with trusts and foundations in the US and securing new grant income. Alex joined ClientEarth in 2024 and is based in our London office.
Main Duties
- Prospect research and pipeline development - Proactively undertake research to identify, qualify and prioritise new funding prospects/ opportunities to support the build of a pipeline of high quality leads to guide future fundraising efforts;
- Business Development and Income generation - Draft clear and compelling written fundraising materials including cases for support, funding proposals, and concept notes;
- Systems and processes - Provide timely and accurate information to the Business Development Manager on funding opportunities in their portfolio and progress with workplan, as requested, to enable accurate monitoring and reporting to the Head of Business Development;

Role requirements
- Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English
- Experience of working in a fundraising or business development role for a charity, NGO, private or public entity;
- Experience of drafting compelling and successful proposals for trusts, foundations and statutory institutions and securing multi-year grants, ideally at the six-figure level and above;
- Experience of supporting the relationship development process with a new donor, from prospect research through to ask.
- Strong project management skills to lead the proposal development process to meet funder deadlines, including stakeholder management;
