Small organisations like ours don’t often have chance to recruit at senior level. This is a rare opportunity to make change across the UK, bringing us all closer to a day when domestic abuse is a thing of the past. Our long-serving Director of Quality and Innovation is taking a 12-month sabbatical, and we look forward to appointing a fantastic candidate to cover her role for a year. NASP operates through a hybrid model of working, with most work taking place remotely using Microsoft Teams for meetings and planning. Purpose of This Role:
The Senior Communications Officer will lead press, media and webinar activity for NASP. You will work as part of an ambitious communications team to increase awareness about social prescribing, support a range of programmes and position NASP as a ‘go to’ organisation for media.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Knowledge of the voluntary sector, the health sector and/or social prescribing
- Ability to secure media coverage, and excellent understanding of the media landscape
- Ability to write and edit to a high standard for different audiences (e.g. press releases, web content, briefings, reports, speeches etc)
- Ability to distil complex information and turn it into persuasive and compelling narratives
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including ability to pitch stories and respond to challenging questions
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, and to balance competing priorities
- Ability to form supportive relationships with colleagues and a wide range of partners (from local community groups to large international organisations)

Responsibilities:
Media and PR
- Developing and delivering the NASP media strategy, communicating our messages about social prescribing through national, regional and sector media
- Managing the press office: responding to journalists; developing and managing media lists and monitoring and reporting systems
- Proactively building relationships with journalists and scoping and horizon-scanning trends and opportunities for coverage
- Managing and organising a programme of PR activity, including high-profile partnerships
- Developing and refining key message documents, and ensuring spokespeople are available, well briefed and supported.
Communications and case studies
- Identifying and supporting case studies across NASP programmes, and ensuring permissions processes are followed
- Commissioning, developing and writing website materials such as news articles and blogs to feed into the content strategy for NASP
- Writing articles, letters, blogs, speeches and presentations for colleagues, and articles for the NASP website

Webinars
- Acting as main contact for all NASP-produced or co-produced webinars

- Planning and delivery for each event including organising BSL/wider access requirements, running rehearsals, managing breakout rooms, supporting tech issues, and working with colleagues to develop content and confirm speakers
- Working with the wider Communications team to ensure all webinars are promoted effectively and cohesively
- Working with NASP’s CRM system to manage data in line with legislation, and to send invites, updates, etc. to relevant lists; developing CRM knowledge to provide support to colleagues

Essential requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition/Community Nutrition or Public Health or Medicine discipline (or equivalent)
- Demonstrable field experience across several relevant aspects of nutrition programming in humanitarian and low- and middle- income contexts, e.g., Malnutrition prevention and management, Nutrition Information Systems, IYCF, Maternal Nutrition, Adolescent Nutrition.
- Understanding of the humanitarian systems and architecture and of the Nutrition Cluster in particular.
- Demonstratable experience of managing projects from start to finish, coordinating multiple outputs, managing budget, and supporting other members of the project team to deliver.

Recruitment open for Chair of the Patient and Carer Network
The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) invites applicants for this exciting role to chair its Patient Carer Network (PCN). The Chair will lead the PCN’s volunteers and make sure their views are considered throughout the College.
The RCP has worked with its PCN since 2004 to ensure that the perspectives of people with lived experience are reflected in our activities. We believe this continuous dialogue between the people who lead and the people who use services is critical to achieving our aims and delivering the RCP’s strategy 2022 – 2024.
The PCN currently consists of around 40 volunteers from across England and Wales who are passionate about improving healthcare for all. Some network members have knowledge of the breadth of the health and care sector, others bring knowledge of specific health and social care experiences – all bring insights that are invaluable to the RCP.
The PCN and the Chair of the PCN are supported by a Patient Involvement Officer and a Network Involvement and Engagement Manager. The RCP’s Patient Involvement Officer, Dr Laura Waters, is a senior physician with specific responsibility for amplifying the voice of patients and carers and in building capabilities to equip those working across the RCP with the skills to engage and listen to that voice.
Chair of the Patient Carer Network - the role
The role offers the opportunity to influence the College’s work focusing on improving health and care and leading the prevention of ill-health across communities, educating physicians and supporting them to fulfil their potential and influencing the way healthcare is designed and delivered.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside senior doctors, healthcare professionals, patient and carer representatives and College staff to make sure the voices of patients and carers are central and heard throughout the work of the College. You will represent the RCP’s PCN at external meetings and build relationships with patient and carer charities and national organisations to help the RCP meet its strategic aims to improve health and care and shape the way that healthcare is designed and delivered.
You will lead a diverse group of volunteers to help us deliver on the RCP Patient Carer Network’s Strategy You will champion the PCN and equip network members to work effectively in support of RCP strategic priorities and values, across a range of activities. You will bring the passion, energy and enthusiasm to strengthen an inclusive patient and carer voice in the work of the College.

Interview and appointment to role
Shortlisting will be completed during the week commencing 2 January 2024. Candidates will also participate in an assessment where they will meet members of the Patient Carer Network in person in the RCP office in London.
The start date for the role will be February 2023. The tenure will be for two years with an opportunity to renew for a further two years following review with the clinical vice president.
The time commitment is on average 4-6 days per month. The successfully appointed candidate will be entitled to receive an honorarium of £4,000 per year and reasonable expenses will be paid in line with the RCP’s expenses policy.

About the role:
We have been awarded a Department for Education contract to deliver high quality training to kinship carers across England, which will complement our existing progammes and services, including our national Peer-to-Peer Programme, innovative programmes commissioned by local authorities in England and Wales and our free information and advice services including Kinship Compass.
In order to reach and support more kinship carers with these programmes and services, we are building a new Marketing Team – comprising a Head of Marketing, Marketing Manager and Marketing Officer - to develop and deliver integrated, strategic and creative marketing campaigns and strategies.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, senior-level marketeer with a strong track record in overseeing the development and delivery of effective and successful multi-channel marketing strategies targeted at a range of audiences to join us as our Head of Marketing. You’ll also be comfortable getting involved in the operational delivery of our marketing plans, supporting your team of two and demonstrating an insight and audience-led approach to both digital and offline marketing, thriving in an environment where you’ll be responsible for overseeing the progress of various strands of marketing activity.
You will have significant experience in leading marketing teams in the charity sector, and have demonstrable experience in delivering successful, engaging marketing strategies in-house. You will have experience of operating at a senior management level – perhaps as a Senior Manager, Head of or other senior-level role, adept at working with senior level internal and external stakeholders.

About the Horizon Europe Project: ‘KitNewCare’
The Horizon Europe initiative is the EU’s key funding programme for innovation and research to tackle climate change and achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. CSH is part of a consortium of organisations across the UK and EU that has been funded by Horizon Europe to develop and disseminate a model for sustainable healthcare. The ‘KitNewCare’ project will focus on the medical specialty of kidney care, due to its large disease burden (e.g. 10% of Europeans have impaired kidney function severe enough to impact their health status) and its significant resource footprint, particularly in the use of dialysis in clinical settings. The main pilot sites are in Poland, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.
The project comprises several inter-related work packages, with different organisations leading or contributing to each package. These include: developing the knowledge base of sustainability trends, costs, hotspots and solutions across the EU; piloting organisational and workflow optimisations and technological innovations to improve sustainability in kidney care; and upscaling, disseminating and implementing solutions identified through the development of guidance, toolkits and training resources.
About the role
The Project Manager for Benchmarking Tool & Best Practice Guidance Development will be responsible for the successful delivery of Work Package 5 (Best Practice Guidance and Tools), which focuses on the design and development of a benchmarking dashboard and converting the results of the project into green kidney care guidelines. This will involve monitoring and managing the relevant milestones, deliverables and risk registers. The Project Manager will link with the software company and part-time local project coordinators in 4 pilot clinical sites (in Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Poland) to design, pilot and evaluate the dashboard. The role will involve coordinating with other Work Packages including on training of local teams (WP6), developing a life cycle assessment model (WP2) and impact evaluation of changes to organisational and workflow optimisations (WP3).
Key responsibilities:
- Project management of Work Package 5 (Best Practice Guidance and Tools) of the Horizon Europe project on sustainable kidney care (KitNewCare).
- Coordination with other Work Packages as required.
- Support of the development of a 4-factor Life Cycle Assessment model and database which captures health outcomes, financial, environmental and social impacts (WP2).
- Support of the application of the model at the four project pilot sites (Utrecht, Modena, Madrid, Warsaw) (WP2 & 3).
- Overseeing of the design, technical development, implementation and validation of a benchmarking dashboard, based on the 4-factor Life Cycle Assessment model and database, including:
- To set up and liaise with a stakeholder group to agree the metrics for a benchmarking tool.
- To liaise with an online software provider to create the benchmarking tool.
- To pilot and evaluate the benchmarking tool with the projects’ immediate and extended pilot sites.
- Exploration of the transferability of the benchmarking dashboard to other specialties.
- Development of best practice guide for sustainable kidney care based on the findings of this project and existing guidance and research.
- Participation in consortium meetings and liaison and coordination of activities with the KitNewCare project manager and consortium members.
