Role Summary

The (Senior) Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of communications to help us win our campaigns. We are looking for a proactive and hands-on team player, who will build relationships with journalists, securing media hits in top mainstream media, ensuring that communications are a strong part of our strategies to win campaigns.  While the position involves broader communications tasks, its core focus is strategic media work — driving impactful coverage, shaping narratives, and ensuring our investigative campaigns gain global visibility. 

Key Responsibilities (Media-Focused)

• Lead proactive and reactive media outreach for multiple high-profile campaigns.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with international, national, and trade journalists, build and maintain our in-house media list.
• Secure high-impact coverage in top-tier outlets and place investigative stories, exclusives, and op-eds.
• Develop media strategies that amplify campaign findings and influence corporate behaviour and policies.

We are a small team, so this is a hands-on role with the focus on press work, but it also requires managing our key communications channels and our website. The Communications Manager will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the team, as well as manage a social media free-lancer and other communications creatives, such as video-editors.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced communications professional with at least 7 years’ experience in journalism or in leading successful communications for a non-profit organisation, PR agency, or similar. Ideally, you are a creative, hands-on individual with great inter-personal skills, able to form collaborative working relationships with a variety of different stakeholders, ranging from journalists to creative agencies and our NGO partners.

What we are looking for – Skills & Experience

The successful candidate must have:

• Demonstrable experience personally leading media outreach for major investigations or campaigns, with a proven record of securing top-tier international and national coverage (e.g. Financial Times, Guardian, Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, major broadcasters).
• A strong, active network of journalist contacts, and the confidence and instinct to pick up the phone, pitch stories, brief reporters, and manage embargoed launches under tight deadlines.
• Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English, with the ability to craft sharp press materials; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
• Experience coordinating and executing major report launches, working closely with campaigners and partners to shape narratives that cut through, develop media strategies, prepare messaging, and proactively pitch stories to journalists.
• An exceptional eye for detail and an ability to distil complex research into clear, compelling, and accessible media and social-media content.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple deadlines, manage fast-moving campaigns, and perform under pressure.
• A creative, strategic mindset, able to think outside the box, introduce innovative communications tactics, and adapt messaging to a rapidly changing external environment.
• Digital fluency, with experience leading online engagement or mobilisation campaigns and an understanding of how digital channels support broader media and campaign goals.
• Willingness and ability to generate regular content to win campaigns, including social media posts, op-eds, blogs, newsletters, and other campaign materials; familiarity with tools such as WordPress, Mailchimp, and Canva.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a collaborative working style, a growth mindset, and a positive, solution-focused, and proactive approach to communications and relationship-building, both internally and externally.
• A commitment to environmental and social justice, with a passion for using communications to drive meaningful systemic change.

It’s a plus if a candidate has:

• Excellent knowledge of and experience working within the environmental and social impact sectors.
• Good knowledge of the use of creative communication tactics, such as short videos.
• Passion to create narrative shifts on complex social issues and personal interest in countering misinformation and greenwashing.

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Healthcare Improvement Senior Officer to join our Improvement Programmes Team, helping to deliver leadership programmes and quality improvement projects that support healthcare professionals to improve prostate cancer services across the UK. It’s a varied and rewarding role where no two days are quite the same.

Examples of projects supported include work around establishing better Active Surveillance so that more men can avoid unnecessary radical treatment; work to restructure and make faster the diagnostic pathway; work to coordinate with primary care and support earlier diagnosis; new surgical procedures that spare men the burden of incontinence. You’ll help design, deliver and facilitate improvement programmes, preparing materials, supporting participants and making sure recruitment runs smoothly and on time. You’ll lead on organising Clinical Advisory Group meetings, support our digital channels, including webpages and online learning resources, and take on ad hoc projects or events as necessary.

You’ll coordinate quality improvement projects, help schedule programmes, and work with colleagues across Prostate Cancer UK to increase the reach and impact of our work. Building strong relationships with programme alumni is an important part of the role, including developing newsletter content, sharing best practice and creating opportunities for continued involvement. You’ll also coach and mentor clinicians using Insights Discovery (a psychometric tool helping people understand their own and others' behavioural preferences and communication styles), helping to spread learning and improve care across services.

What we want from you

We’re looking for an effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills, able to adapt communication style for different audiences. Strong organisational skills are essential, with the ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. You’ll have experience managing webpages and creating engaging online content, as well as delivering presentations and facilitating productive conversations.

You’ll bring experience of project management and be comfortable coaching, mentoring and/or supporting peer-based learning. Building strong relationships will come naturally to you, whether that’s with clinicians, colleagues, senior leaders or external partners. You’ll have a good understanding of the healthcare and/or charity sectors and the pressures faced by healthcare services.

Job Summary

The Senior Quinquennial Building Surveyor will deliver the Diocese’s statutory quinquennial (“QQ”) obligations across a large and varied residential housing portfolio. The role involves personally carrying out surveys on higher-value and complex properties, overseeing external surveyors where appropriate, managing repair projects, and ensuring works are delivered on time, on budget and in compliance, balancing cost control with long-term asset stewardship

Job responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the Quinquennial surveying and repairs service
• Personally undertake quinquennial surveys, including listed and historic buildings
• Plan, schedule and track up to 100 surveys per year and the associated repair programmes

The Strategy and Policy Team is part of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Corporate Services Directorate. The successful candidate will play a key role within the team, which incorporates policy and strategy support across Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) functions. The team works on a remote basis with the occasional requirement to attend meetings or events in London or other locations around the UK on a semi-regular basis.

The Strategy and Policy Team work closely with subject matter experts, insight analysts, and communications colleagues across NFCC to support and produce policy advice, positions, and content. Through the timely and clear production of evidence-based advice, our primary objective is to support national policy development, with the aim of improving the safety of the communities we serve.

What you will be doing:

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Policy Manager and be responsible for leading the development of policy advice, positions, and responses to Government across a range of topics. These could include aspects of operational preparedness and response, fire reform, climate change, emerging technologies, the NFCC strategy, and cultural improvement.

The post holder will be part of a team producing policy products for UK FRSs across all areas of FRS activities. Responsibilities will include engagement with UK FRSs to ensure that policies and national positions under development enjoy the support of our members and appropriately reflect their views.

In addition to working with other members of the Strategy and Policy Team, you will also work with technical, communications, data, and governance colleagues from other NFCC teams.

The post holder may also be involved with the preparation of research reports, impact assessments, cost benefit analysis of policy options, equality impact assessments, and presentation of data where relevant.

The Adoption Quality and Development Lead plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality adoption and adoption support services. Purpose of role

Lumos is entering an exciting period of strategic transformation to strengthen our operational foundations, refine our systems, and enhance our capacity to deliver on our mission to realise every child’s right to a family. The Senior Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in building the operational foundations and risk-aware culture needed for success both now and as the organisation prepares for the future.

As a delivery partner to the Director of People & Operations, the Senior Operations Manager leads the implementation of agreed operational priorities, strengthens country office and partner capability, and ensures that operational standards, policies, and practices are consistently embedded across existing and new geographies. The role provides independent oversight and assurance across operational risk, safety, security, and safeguarding, working closely with delivery teams while retaining the authority to challenge, escalate, and inform senior decision-making.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who thrives on systems thinking, coordination, and execution, and who is motivated by turning risk awareness, data, and lessons learned into practical organisational improvement that strengthens organisational resilience and impact.

Primary responsibilities

Operational leadership & delivery

• Act as a senior delivery partner to the Director of People & Operations, leading the implementation of agreed operational priorities.
• Coordinate cross-functional operational delivery across Operations, Safeguarding, and Security.
• Deputise for the Director of People & Operations in internal and external forums as appropriate, with delegated authority.

Global safety, security & incident management (focal point)

• Act as Lumos’ organisational focal point for safety, security, and travel risk, coordinating risk management frameworks, systems, and oversight across the organisation.
• Work closely with, and oversee the delivery of, Lumos’ global safety and security consultant(s), ensuring clear scope, quality outputs, and effective follow-through.
• Monitor safety and security incidents across the organisation, ensuring appropriate recording, escalation, follow-up, and learning.
• Coordinate incident response in line with agreed protocols, working closely with country teams and external security specialists.
• Lead lessons-learned processes following incidents and ensure recommendations are embedded into systems, guidance, and practice.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of safety and security standards across country offices and partners.

Safeguarding & PSEA (operational oversight)

• Provide operational oversight and coordination of safeguarding and PSEA frameworks, working closely with specialist safeguarding focal points, leads, and consultants while the recruitment and scoping of a Global Safeguarding Lead is planned across 2026.
• Monitor implementation of safeguarding and PSEA standards, policies, and training across country offices and partners.
• Support incident tracking, information management, and follow-up actions, ensuring confidentiality, proportionality, and appropriate escalation.
• Contribute to organisational learning and continuous improvement in safeguarding practice.

Risk management, contingency & assurance frameworks

• Lead the development, implementation, and refinement of operational risk management and risk assessment frameworks across Lumos.
• Ensure consistent approaches to risk identification, mitigation, escalation, and assurance across countries, partners, and programmes.
• Maintain and monitor operational risk registers, ensuring risks are actively reviewed and managed.
• Coordinate comprehensive contingency planning, crisis protocols, and organisational preparedness.
• Support due diligence and risk assessment processes for partners, vendors, programmes, and new geographies.

Programme, MEAL & risk integration

• Work closely with Programme and MEAL teams to embed operational risk, safety, security, and safeguarding considerations into programme design, delivery, and monitoring.
• Support the development of proportionate, decision-useful KPIs related to operational risk, duty of care, safety, security, and safeguarding.
• Strengthen alignment between operational risk management and programme assurance and learning processes.

Operational systems, policy tracking & insurance

• Lead the development and improvement of operational systems, trackers, workflow,s and dashboards to strengthen consistency, quality assurance, and organisational insight.
• Maintain and oversee policy trackers across Operations, Safeguarding, and Security, ensuring review cycles, ownership, and implementation are monitored.
• Develop operational reporting, audit, and monitoring mechanisms that complement existing MEAL, programme, and governance systems.
• Support audits and internal reviews by maintaining clear documentation and evidence.
• Ensure strong information management and data protection practices are embedded.
• Oversee coordination of Lumos’ global insurance arrangements (e.g., travel, medical, liability), including renewals, compliance tracking, and liaison with brokers and insurers, under the direction of the Director of People & Operations.

Country office & partner capability building

• Work closely with Country Directors, operational focal points, and partners to embed global operational, safeguarding, and safety/security frameworks locally.
• Support capacity building through guidance, tools, training coordination, and structured follow-up.
• Provide practical support and constructive challenge to strengthen compliance, confidence, and consistency.
• Balance global standards with appropriate local adaptation.

Performance insight, reporting & organisational learning

• Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting that provide visibility on operational risk, safety, security, safeguarding, and organisational readiness.
• Provide clear insight to the Director of People & Operations and Executive Team on trends, incidents, risks, and areas for improvement.
• Support organisational learning through analysis of data, incidents, audits, and reviews.

 Project management & continuous improvement

• Lead or coordinate project management for time-bound operational initiatives
• Identify capacity gaps, monitor progress, and escalate risks.
• Translate lessons learned into updated frameworks, tools, and guidance to support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the business performance of the home alongside the Registered Manager, delivering agreed income, occupancy, cost and surplus targets
