We are looking for a proactive self-starter to sit within a high-performing team working to raise awareness of SSAFA’s support in the Central Region of England to those in the Armed Forces Community who need it most.
With the ultimate objective being to grow SSAFA’s presence, profile, and identity, the role is responsible for all marcomms activation in the region. The role holder will work to deliver the central Fundraising, Marketing & Communications strategy.
This role reports to the Senior Storytelling Manager with close alignment with colleagues across the marcomms directorate. The marcomms manager will be responsible for managing marketing campaigns in the Central Region of England and promoting SSAFA’s fundraising initiatives and services. You’ll identify the areas of greatest impact and cut through, deliver integrated awareness campaigns and secure media coverage of fundraising events. Crucially, you’ll be able to identify stories which resonate with our target audience and write calls to action.
With a heavy focus on media and PR activity, key to the role is building strong relationships and contacts with relevant stakeholders in your region including media representatives, employees, volunteers, and case study beneficiaries.
About the team
The Communications team is a small but dynamic group of individuals with strong skillsets across Public Relations, Storytelling (case studies) and Internal Communications. The team is a mix of ex-forces and civilians, and they are always sharing knowledge and expertise with each other.
You will work closely across all directorates within SSAFA, with a focus in the central region, to garner information and create compelling marcomms campaigns and activities to raise awareness of SSAFA’s work.
About you
You will be a highly motivated and creative communicator with a proven track record of delivering impactful PR and marketing campaigns. As a natural storyteller with strong media instincts, you will excel at securing high-profile coverage and elevating our brand presence. You will be a confident relationship builder, skilled at engaging stakeholders across the region, from media contacts to volunteers and case study beneficiaries. You will also be able to work independently while staying closely aligned with teams across fundraising and communications, demonstrating proactivity and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

As a Trusts and Grants and Manager you will take on the management and stewardship of a diverse portfolio of high-value funding relationships, while developing new partnerships with a high propensity to support our work. You will be a strategic thinker, used to working with high value grant making professionals and trustees and with senior staff and stakeholders within your own organisation. Main areas of responsibility
- Build relationships with portfolio of five and six figure trust supporters, understanding their motivations and tailoring opportunities and communications to cultivate strong, long-lasting partnerships.
- Foster a deep understanding of FareShare’s work and strategy to create persuasive fundraising proposals that inspire and solicit funds. This includes developing relationships across the organisation to build a sound understanding of FareShare operations and where support is most needed
- Champion and input in to the teams prospecting process, using your own research and sector knowledge to take new opportunities from identification through to solicitation, particularly focussing on those with multi-year and high value potential.
- Develop innovative and personalised stewardship plans, in collaboration with senior colleagues when appropriate, to deepen funder relationships. Craft compelling written communications including emails, proposals, and reports to showcase the impact of trust support and celebrate key milestones. Lead calls, meetings and visits to strengthen funder partnerships and engagement with our work.
- Provide supportive management to a Trust and Grants Officer, offering regular advice and guidance, identifying opportunities for development and monitoring performance objectives in line with the organisational and team strategy.
- Play an active role in developing and delivering the Trusts and Grants team strategy contributing to planning and management of team objectives, and supporting the Senior Manager to motivate the team and drive trust income.
- Work with colleagues across the Fundraising sub-teams to maximise cross over opportunities between income areas.
- Maintain accurate records of partner interactions in our CRM system and shared files, and consistently update financial records and account plans.

Experience
- Experience of securing and successfully managing five and six figure grants and multi-year gifts from a range of grant makers, including project funding and unrestricted funding.
- Experience in prospecting for new high value business opportunities via multiple research channels and soliciting new donors to make significant gifts.
- Experience in writing compelling funding applications and impact reporting.
- Experience in developing and presenting complex project and financial information to support compelling funding proposals.
- Experience of successful cross department working with senior colleagues to deliver on funding objectives and budget.
- Experience of line management or transferable skills to line management.
Skills, knowledge and abilities
- Strong up-to-date knowledge of the trust, grant and foundation landscape.

The Casework and Research Manager will lead Humanists International's efforts in supporting Humanists at Risk through strategic engagement, research, and the management of key publications, particularly the Freedom of Thought Report. The Strategic Programme Director will be responsible for contributing to and supporting the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team and key lay and ordained leaders in the delivery of the diocesan strategy. The role will ensure that the programmes, projects and workstreams within the plan are delivered on time, within scope and budget. The Programme Director will provide oversight of the strategic plan from inception of ideas through implementation to delivery of projects. Working collaboratively across the Diocese, the role will also ensure that key outcomes are well-defined, appropriately prioritised, delivered to plan and within budget. The role will include shaping and scoping the request for partnership/external funding.
Programme Development & Planning
- In the first year: To prioritise the clear articulation of a diocesan wide vision and direction of travel through working closely with the Bishop and the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team building on the work achieved in recent years.
- Work with key stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives aligned with the diocesan vision and strategy
- Ensure strategic proposals have clarity and viability
- Ensure effective communication with clarity, consistency and transparency
- Work with senior leaders to prioritise outline proposals
- Work with senior leaders to develop change proposals including detailed outcomes and the process by which those outcomes will be achieved
- Regularly assess the viability of development proposals
- Work with partnership funding bodies, including the C of E Vision and Strategy Team, to submit funding proposals and assure the quality of applications for any partnership funding
- Represent the Diocese in discussions with partnership funders
- Work with senior leaders to make the best use of central resources to support change
Programme Management
- Facilitate the launch of partnership-funded strategic projects, ensuring they are appropriately planned, resourced, measured and managed.
- Establish appropriate programme governance, including risk management, change management, regular reporting, and budget management
- Work with the communications team to ensure consistent and effective messaging
- Establish review and support processes to ensure projects are delivered successfully
- Ensure intervention processes are developed to pause, or if necessary, terminate projects that have demonstrated they will not deliver
- Capture and publish lessons learned, and support research studies
- Build consistent protocols for all significant strategic development initiatives
- Track progress against a detailed project plan, deliverables, outcomes and measures
- Manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs, escalating to BSIG as required
- Provide support for operational aspects of projects in liaison with diocesan colleagues
- Ensure project leads/managers regularly complete a quality project highlight report
- Address project issues and risks, escalating to BSST accordingly
- Report project status to BSST on a regular basis
- Oversee production of all necessary annual reports for the Strategic Investment Board
