As a Policy and Practice Impact Adviser you will build and maintain expert knowledge on the evidence, practice and policy landscape around early learning and child poverty in the North of England. You’ll work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams with internal colleagues and external partners to develop change strategies which will help to overcome the barriers that result in the Early Years gap for children living in poverty in England. Examples of your responsibilities include
Developing, managing and delivering advocacy strategies among officials, practitioners, charities, think tanks and research organisations
- Building and maintaining excellent external relationships in the policy and practice community, in order to gather intelligence and influence policy and practice change
- Working in partnership with children and families experiencing poverty to develop research proposals and reports, policy and practice solutions and influencing strategies.
To be successful you will be a strong team player, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of the evidence, practice and policy landscape surrounding early learning and child poverty in England. A creative and flexible worker, you will have experience of working with families to develop research plans, proposals and strategies, alongside experience of working effectively with partner organisations to influence practice at a local or national level. Additionally, you will have:
- Experience of analysing policy and practice challenges and developing creative, credible solutions
- Considerable proven skills in producing high-quality literature, policy and practice reviews
- Experience of developing and managing research, policy or practice projects to strict deadlines
- The ability to manage multiple activities at once and to resolve conflicting priorities

62 Nelson Street was the home of the Emmeline Pankhurst and her family and was the place where the first meeting of the Women’s Social and Political Union – the movement which became known as the Suffrages – took place. Saved from demolition by a grass roots campaign in the 1970s and 1980s, the Pankhurst Centre is now the only heritage site in the U.K. dedicated to telling the story of the Pankhurst family and the story of women’s fight for the right to vote.

About the role:

As maternity cover for the Pankhurst Trust Fundraising and Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of fundraising across our Women’s Aid and Pankhurst Centre heritage operations. Main Responsibilities
As a Senior Volunteer Development Lead, you will support the creation review and implementation of the volunteering development plans across the North of England region. You will develop and maintain effective internal relationships across Diabetes UK teams, taking the role as the 'Knowledgeable' Volunteering Manager, influencing, sharing and pooling ideas, information and resources, to ensure a collaborative approach to delivering the charities strategy. Home-Start Manchester is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.
For the last year we have successfully delivered a partnership project with Manchester Mind, providing volunteer-led one to one support to families living in North Manchester, in the first 1000 days (from conception to a child’s 2nd birthday). Aligned with the Reducing Infant Mortality Strategy, the project aims to build resilience, increase family engagement with services and communities, improve parental well-being in pregnancy, improve the parent-infant relationship and improve familial relationships.
The Home-Start First 1000 days Coordinator will work as an integral member of the Home-Start team but also work with Manchester Mind’s Mum’s Matter Coordinator to generate referrals and sign up mums. The Coordinator will also work with wider teams of professionals from universal and specialist services to provide a coordinated response to families’ needs. This will include instigating Early Help assessments and attending case planning meetings.
The First 1000 days Coordinator will be experienced in working with families in their own home, with needs ranging from low level to complex. They will be skilled in recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns, be apt in completing strengths-based assessments and have a deep understanding of early trauma and the impact on later life.
Weekly hours can be worked flexibly, both in the office and at home, whilst meeting the need of the service. The role will require travel across all North Manchester communities. It is desirable that applicants have use of their own car, for which expenses are paid. A DBS (Enhanced Level) will be required.
