Job description

L’Arche London is more than just a care provider, we’re a diverse, inclusive community of nearly 100 people, with and without learning disabilities who live, work and celebrate together, and we’re looking for a new Deputy Service Coordinator to join our leadership team. Our aim is to provide a place of belonging to help people with learning disabilities live independent yet connected lives.

You will have previous experience of providing support people with learning disabilities and together with the Service Coordinator you will manage and deliver high quality person centred support for the Oak Group, one of our three community groups. Oak group supports 8 people with learning disabilities with differing needs, who live in our supporting living programme. Together with the Service Coordinator you will manage and inspire a team of 14 support assistants, who facilitate the practical, social and spiritual needs of everyone in the group.

L’Arche London is a vibrant, joyful place to be. We’re part of an international federation of L’Arche communities in over 100 countries worldwide. Founded in the Christian tradition, L'Arche Communities welcome people of all faiths and none. Our vision is a world where all belong.

As a Deputy Service Coordinator you will split your time between the office, organising rotas, liaising with families, social services and health care professionals, and with providing a minimum of 24 hours a week direct support.

Throughout the pandemic, the community groups at L’Arche London have remained strong and positive teams, who have ensured that the people we support have been able to flourish despite COVID restrictions. Now as things are opening up, we are beginning to reimagine what support, care and shared lives can look like, building on our existing quality and on the unique faith-based values of L’Arche. This role will be part of a group of key leaders during this exciting time.

This is an ideal step up for someone with knowledge and experience of supporting people with learning disabilities, an enthusiasm for our values and the ability to inspire and manage others.

How to apply

Applicants are asked to send a CV and a letter of around two sides of A4, outlining how their experience, knowledge, skills and values meet the person specification and job description.

The closing date for applications is 10am on Monday 22 November 2021.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 November 2021. The interview will have two parts, both in person. There will be an interview with task and a visit to one of our houses to enable us to see you interact with people with learning disabilities and for a panel of people with learning disabilities to interview you.

We are looking someone to start ideally by mid-December 2021

Benefits for this role include 33 paid days holiday a year, a pension, life insurance and an Employee Assistance Programme providing free confidential well-being support including counselling. Our personal development or "Formation" programme offers opportunities for reflection, mentoring and growth for everyone in our community. We also offer opportunities to study for QCF qualifications and to participate in our nationwide leadership programme. Pre-COVID there were opportunities to travel both in the UK and internationally to visit other L’Arche communities which we hope will be possible again soon.
