Job description

Volunteer Coordinator

We have an exciting opportunity for a Volunteer Services Coordinator to recruit, induct, train and manage volunteers (including those with additional needs) for deployment across all services in response to the needs of the organisation

Position: Volunteer Services Coordinator

Location: Mackworth, Derby

Hours: 16 hours per week – must be flexible.  Evening and weekend work will be required from time to time

Salary: £11.36 per hour

Contract: Permanent

Benefits: 22 days per annum plus 8 Bank Holidays – all pro rata to hours worked, Pension scheme, flexibility on days, cycle to work scheme, birthday club

The Role

As Volunteer Services Coordinator you will oversee the volunteer project including meeting targets, monitoring and project costs. Working closely with the team to identify volunteering roles, you will ensure the recruitment meets the identified organisational needs.

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Identify and pro-actively recruit volunteers
  • Work with project coordinators to plan and allocate volunteers to support their services
  • Lead on all aspects of the day to day administration and supervision of a team of volunteers
  • Identify and celebrate volunteer achievements and successes
  • Line manage Activity Support Workers on holiday contracts
  • Manage any capability issues swiftly and with professionalism
  • Ensure good communication between volunteers and the organisation
  • Ensure the delivery of a comprehensive induction for volunteers and on on-going training/development programme
  • Ensure regular, good quality, reflective 1:1 and group supervision for volunteers
  • Respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns
  • Develop and facilitate disability awareness training for volunteers

About You

As Volunteer Services Coordinator, you will have the drive, integrity and enthusiasm to support the volunteering team.

You will have:

  • A good level of general education
  • As understanding of the needs/issues affecting disabled children/young people/young adults
  • Experience of working with and mentoring volunteers
  • The ability to deliver training packages to volunteers, trustees and staff
  • The knowledge of safeguarding/protection of vulnerable adults and the management of risk
  • Good IT skills and confidence in all Microsoft packages

You will hold a current driving licence and have your own transport and be eligible to hold a current enhanced DBS check.

The charity enables disabled children and young adults to realise their full potential by empowering parents and carers, supporting them in their care of their disabled child or young adult and by providing exciting, stimulating activities for children and young adults which encourages the development of skills, whilst having fun. The organisation gives disabled children and young adults opportunities that non-disabled children take for granted and supports any family with a disabled child or young adult aged 5 to 30. The charity is able to support a child or young adult no matter what their disability as our services are person centred to meet individual needs.
