Job Title: Children and Family Worker

About the role
As a Children and Family worker, you will be based within our Women's Refuge service, supporting women and children up to the age of 15 who have escaped domestic abuse. You will deliver trauma-informed, child and family centred support to promote safety and wellbeing, working collaboratively with mothers to strengthen the parent-child relationship during a time of crisis. You will support with both emotional and practical day-to-day support. This is typically done through key work sessions, risk assessments, and empowerment focused activities.
You will play a vital role in supporting families, being the sole specialist within the service, which gives you autonomy to shape the role based on your expertise and experience. You will lead on child-focused support, as well as working part of the wider team to provide the support to mothers. You will deliver a range of support for children and young people, as well as family and parenting support.

The Cathedral Safeguarding Officer (CSO) is a Liverpool Diocesan employee who is responsible for leading and promoting safeguarding across Liverpool Cathedral, ensuring that safeguarding is embedded throughout its ministry, governance and operations. Working closely with the Dean, clergy, staff and volunteers, the postholder will provide both safeguarding leadership and practical support to foster a culture in which safeguarding is understood by all as a shared responsibility, and the welfare of children, young people and adults remains central to Cathedral life. The postholder will be an active and visible presence within Liverpool Cathedral, working closely alongside the Dean, Cathedral leadership, clergy, staff and volunteers to build effective working relationships and embed safeguarding throughout Cathedral life, while maintaining strong professional links with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team.
Working collaboratively across the Cathedral, the CSO will help ensure that safeguarding policies, procedures and governance arrangements are effectively implemented, monitored and continuously improved. The postholder will maintain robust safeguarding records and oversight of safeguarding data, using information and trends to inform team decision-making, monitor risk, identify emerging safeguarding issues and support the ongoing development of policy, practice and organisational learning. They will maintain strong partnerships with statutory agencies, partner organisations and the Diocesan Safeguarding Team (DST).
The CSO will provide professional safeguarding advice and guidance, support the development of safer working practices, deliver safeguarding learning and development opportunities, and assist with the identification, assessment, and management of safeguarding risks. The postholder will also act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns and allegations, ensuring that these are managed appropriately and in accordance with statutory requirements, Church of England guidance, and National Safeguarding Standards.
Although based at Liverpool Cathedral, the CSO is an integral member of the Diocesan Safeguarding Team and will receive professional supervision, support and line management from the Deputy Head of Safeguarding (DDSO) and the Head of Safeguarding (DSO). The Peer Support Worker Service (PSWS) is a team of individuals who work with rough sleepers across the city of Birmingham, aiming to facilitate connection, motivate and inspire, and provide a non-judgemental listening ear. The service supports individuals facing Multiple Exclusion Homelessness (MEH), empowering them to make informed choices about their lives.
The Peer Support Worker role includes street outreach across Birmingham, building trust and rapport with the rough sleeping community. Many individuals have had negative experiences with services, leading to a lack of trust and reluctance to engage. Some may also have limited experience of managing accommodation or navigating support services. The role therefore centres on developing supportive, persistent, and compassionate relationships.
Using a trauma-informed approach, the Peer Support Worker Service provides relational, collaborative, assertive, and personalised support to individuals facing complex and multiple disadvantages. At the heart of this work lies the relationship between the Peer Support Worker and the service user – characterised by non-judgemental support at the individual’s pace and by advocacy where needed.
Key Tasks
1. Support people through street outreach, building trust and rapport with rough sleepers in Birmingham.
2. Build and maintain trust with individuals facing Multiple Exclusion Homelessness through social and community-based activities.
3. Support individuals in their positive behavioural change journeys using trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches that build confidence and wellbeing.
4. Work collaboratively with other frontline services across the city, engaging in day-to-day liaison to ensure a multi-disciplinary response.
5. Assist in crisis intervention and provide support in challenging situations, connecting individuals with appropriate professional help when required.
6. Participate in training and development, contributing to discussions on multiple disadvantage, trauma-informed practice, and homelessness.
7. Prioritise safety for yourself, colleagues, and clients by completing thorough risk assessments and applying dynamic risk-assessment skills.
8. Participate in effective safeguarding practice, including identifying and responding to adult safeguarding concerns and self-neglect.
9. Recognise the emotional demands of the role and prioritise self-care to maintain personal wellbeing and effectiveness.

We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Assertive Outreach Worker to support people experiencing multiple disadvantage, including mental health needs, substance use, homelessness, social isolation, or other complex challenges. This role will involve building trusting relationships with people who may find it difficult to engage with services, providing practical and emotional support, and working closely with partner agencies to help individuals access the right support at the right time.
The role focuses on building trust with individuals who may be reluctant to engage with traditional services, helping to reduce health inequalities, improve wellbeing, strengthen safety, build confidence and support sustainable recovery and independence.
The post holder will deliver community-based outreach, complete needs and risk assessments, co-produce support and safety plans, maintain accurate case records and work closely with partner agencies including housing, health, social care, domestic abuse services, drug and alcohol services and criminal justice partners.
This opportunity would suit someone with experience of supporting vulnerable adults, particularly in areas such as mental health, substance misuse, homelessness, domestic abuse, exploitation, safeguarding or multiple disadvantage. Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is currently hiring for two Fundraising Executives to support the delivery of the Committed Giving programme. One of these roles focuses on delivering acquisition through digital, DRTV and offline channels. The other role focuses on supporter retention delivering digital, phone and mail stewardship campaigns.
Both roles are responsible for supporting the day-to-day delivery of campaigns and work on key projects across the team.
Salary
The salary for this position is £34,563 per annum and we operate a hybrid working model of a minimum of 2 days per week in the London office.

About the team
The Committed Giving Team is a high achieving, fast-paced team responsible for the acquisition and retention of committed/regular donors. The team work across 3 key areas; Acquisition, Direct Dialogue Acquisition (Face to Face channels), and Retention (Stewardship).
The Acquisition team is responsible for the recruitment of new regular givers and lottery players, through digital, DRTV, and other offline channels.
The retention team is responsible for the ongoing stewardship and engagement of over 300,000 donors, ensuring that supporters are inspired to give for many years.
The team work closely together with the shared aim of delivering exceptional supporter experience and raising the reliable income the hospital needs to help provide extraordinary care for seriously ill children and their families.
