Job Title: Arts and Learning Strategic Lead

Location: Based at our head office in Islington, London (10 minute walk from Highbury and Islington station) with cross working in various prisons across England, Community sites, and home working

Salary: £47,000 (Full time equivalent)

Shift Pattern: 22.5 hours per week Monday to Friday between 09:00 - 17:00 with some flexibility. You may be required to work outside these hours as per service requirements.

About the role

This is a brand new role, supporting the Head of Safe Ground with the strategic oversight and delivery of our programmes. Safe Ground has been at the forefront of designing and delivering innovative arts-based, therapeutically informed interventions within the criminal justice system and in communities across the UK. As we approach our 30th anniversary this year, we remain dedicated to challenging systematic injustice through the programmes we run and the partnerships we build. This role is a great opportunity to be part of our transformative goals, in being part of creating systematic change.

Using theatre arts, and culture, we design initiatives to support those impacted by the criminal justice system in gaining deeper insights into themselves, their relationships and their behaviours. We do this by equipping our participants with practical tools and building a community who are open to doing things differently. In this role, you will develop best practice around creative interventions, building powerful partnerships with commissioners, partners, and other key stakeholders, ensuring our programmes are being delivered to the highest standards. You will lead on the development of new and existing arts-based work, identifying gaps and opportunities for growth within the sector.

• Oversee the development of new creative ideas and programmes as well as programme adaptations and redesigns. Ideas could be linked to theatre productions in and out of custodial settings, short films, live events, symposiums, but may also include new art forms and working with new artists
• Development of a local / national facilitator network
• Create and deliver engaging high-quality programmes which support rehabilitation and reintegration for participants
• Design and deliver innovation arts-based high quality training and quality assurance support to management and delivery teams across the SIG network - focusing specifically on relationships, culture and communication, conflict resolution, storytelling, power-sharing and co-production
• Lead on the development of creative ideas for Safe Grounds 30th anniversary, including; relationship building and partnership development, advocacy and networking, idea development - radio / stage / film etc
• Provide high quality peer-mentoring spaces, leadership, and line management to staff, offering guidance, support, and advice to the team to support them to perform to the best of their abilities. Facilitate the team in identifying solutions to challenges presented in relation to all elements of service delivery
• Proactively embed a culture of learning, development, reflection, and evaluation in a psychologically informed environment

About you

We are looking for someone who is ambitious and passionate about supporting people who have experienced multiple disadvantages and social exclusion. You will have proven experience in arts development and strategic support, with an extensive understanding of the criminal justice system and the role in which arts-based interventions play. You will be creative, empowering, and be a dedicated lead in supporting our strategic growth. You will understand arts-based interventions and methodologies, and have experience in developing and delivering creative programmes and productions.

• Previous experience in working and engaging with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours
• Previous experience in developing, producing, and/or performing professional productions for example film, television, or theatre productions
• Proven experience in designing innovative arts-based programmes and extensive experience of facilitation of programmes and/or training for various groups
• A theoretical understanding of co-production models and practical application of building them and embedding them into best practice
• Previous experience and/or ability to people manage and develop a team
• Ability to create, develop, and deliver new programmes and/or creative content in various settings such as prisons, communities, and wider criminal justice settings
• Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral. Ability to form and build effective relationships and rapport with others
• Proactive in making decisions to deal with challenges and providing a solution focused approach using initiative

132 Assessment Centre is for single homeless men and women that have links within the borough. The accommodation provides 6 separate self-contained units with on suite bedrooms, and 1 bedroomed flat. The scheme is staffed 24 hours, with Night Support Workers and Concierge cover during the evenings.

The aim of the project is to assess the individual over a 12-week period with the aim of identifying their support and housing needs. In that period, we will provide a bed for the customer to assist staff to carry out a detailed assessment to ensure that the recommendation for move on into alternative housing is captured correctly to assist move on for the individual into more suitable accommodation which is correct reflective of their needs based on our assessment/recommendation.

The role will be on a shift basis: 7.30am to 3.30pm and 2.00pm to 10pm.The team comprises of: Move on coordinator,Therapist, Housing Officer, 16 Support workers, Team Leaders x 2 and Project Manager.

What you'll do:
- Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs including support needs and daily living skills. This would include potential risks and an assessment of the customers independent living skills as a whole.
- The initial and co-produced assessment will incorporate models of co-production, observation, and person-centred planning. This is with a view that it is solution focused as to provide a framework for progression towards independent living.
- Liaise with partner agencies regarding the assessment process seeking advice and guidance as to specialist input and clinical input as part of multi-disciplinary assessment process.
- Create support/ action plans for providing appropriate services based on the assessment and reflecting the services and resources available.

The Orchestra Unwrapped Coordinator will play a crucial role in the Learning & Engagement Department, managing our flagship education work that supports our commitment to building a pipeline of exceptional and confident musicians. • Planning schedules, budgets, and programmes for projects commissioned by music hubs and schools

Execution:

• The delivery, monitoring, and reporting of Orchestra Unwrapped

• Being the first point of contact for school partners, presenters, conductors, and general queries

• Designing and allocating seating plans, ticketing, and coordinating school-based contributions to Orchestra Unwrapped (artwork, sit in sessions, etc)

• The delivery, monitoring, and reporting of commissioned education projects

• Managing project budgets as above

• Responsibility for commissioning participation pieces and bespoke pieces for concerts

• Deliver workshops and CPD for teachers, monitoring and reporting on quality and feedback

Collaboration:

• Fixing and supporting the players, facilitators, and presenters within the projects, and planning any resources or briefings they need.

• Supporting relationships with education organisations to support all our education related work, as appropriate

• Creating management schedules for all staff involved in the concerts

Orchestra-Wide Responsibilities:

• Undertake other such duties as may reasonably be required by the line manager.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

• Experience of supporting the delivery of arts, music, or education projects and programmes

• Experience of supporting the delivery of concerts

• Excellent administrative skills

• Excellent verbal and written skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Experience of working and communicating with a range of stakeholders, including musicians, partner organisations, animateurs, and participants

• Ability to read music and understand orchestral scores

• Proficiency with standard office software and computer systems

• A flexible approach, and willingness to work unsocial hours (evenings and weekends) when required.

Desirable:

• Ability to create reports and evaluations

• Experience managing and reporting on budgets

• Understanding and experience of the English school system

Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Philanthropy and Partnerships  team as our Trusts Officer. This is a 12 month fixed term contract, based between home and our offices in Kings Cross, London.

Sense has a strong track record in Trusts fundraising over many decades, with a talented, supportive fundraising team in place. We have six- figure and multi-year partnerships with leading UK grantmakers, and a portfolio of dedicated Trust supporters, but there is room to grow, and space to make your mark. 

The successful candidate will play an important part in delivering Sense’s strategy to reach 50,000 people with complex disabilities by 2026. Central to this strategy is securing the income needed to deliver and grow charitable services, covering children’s, arts, sports and capital projects, helping to bring forward the day when no-one is left of life.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and identify potential Trust and Foundation funders for priority projects
• Write funding applications, coordinating inputs and creating budgets as needed
• Work closely with operational and finance colleagues to maximise success
• Maintain accurate database records and monitor personal performance
• Secure income from a range of Trusts and Foundations to meet agreed income targets
• Steward a portfolio of funders to strengthen relationships, including thanking, reporting and organising visits
• Contribute to wider team and organisational goals by working with other members of the wider Philanthropy and Partnerships Team (which includes Philanthropy, Special Events, and Corporate) 

Key skills and experience

• Researching, approaching and establishing relationships with Trusts and Foundations
• Managing a pipeline, making sure opportunities are identified, and taken forward
• Creating compelling communications to engage prospects and supporters
• Working closely with operational colleagues to identify funding opportunities, develop propositions and report on funding

• Able to write clear, persuasive narrative for proposals and reports
• Numerical skills, including budgeting skills

About the role

Key responsibilities and outcomes of the role are:

• Improved financial insight and analysis provided to organisational budget holders within a key funder's project, which enables effective financial decision making and management of business performance by budget holders.
• Through training, education and ad hoc support, project budget holders are empowered to engage effectively with financial planning (e.g. budgeting and forecasting).
• Supporting effective review of amendments and changes to the project. Ensuring that management receive accurate reliable and timely information to enable decision making related to restricted funded projects.

Role Specifics

The role involves reviewing and analysing monthly financial data, budgets, and forecasts to identify trends, variances, and key issues, and liaising with the wider Finance team and budget holders to ensure appropriate action is taken. You will support and educate budget holders, acting as their first point of contact for financial planning queries and contributing to training where needed. The postholder will help develop clear, insightful financial reports using Unit 4 FP&A software, incorporating user feedback and improving reporting on restricted funding. Responsibilities also include posting journals, managing financial reporting for the key funder's projects, supporting budget and forecast cycles, reviewing business cases from fundraising teams, and providing financial input on bids and project proposals. Regular engagement with budget holders is essential to drive effective management of restricted funds and support evidence-based fundraising decisions.

Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. This role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. We support the charity through financial reporting, analysis, and expert advice, and enable collaboration to support managers and leadership in making effective business decisions.
