As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

You can expect us to

What we need from you

You’ll be:

· help set up and/or man stalls at events

· help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections

· help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances

· promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Volunteer with us at our Christmas Community Day on Saturday 22nd November 2025!

Rainbow Hill Community Hub have invited Acorns to have a small craft and fundraising stall at the Christmas Community Day.

At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £13 million a year to run our care services.

What's involved?

We are looking for volunteers who can run a small craft stall with the children, no speacial skills required, however, resources will be provided. We will also be taking donations for Acorns Childrens Hospice.

Entry is provided as well as drinks throughout the day. There is also parking nearby.

How much time will it take? 

12:45-4pm – You can choose to volunteer within these hours or as long as you want.

Celebrate your star is an Christmas In Memory event, the day will consist of choir performances, speeches and opportunity to remember lost loved ones and to celebrate Christmas with their memory at the heart of the event. 

At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £11 million a year to run our care services.

 What's involved?

1pm to 6pm either for the whole event or a few hours

Volunteering for Sense

Sense is a leading disability charity with extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering personalised, creative and flexible support for disabled people with complex needs. Our tailored approach ensures that every person is empowered to live fully at every stage of life.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

What your role will involve

You’ll get the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do. 

When you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

If you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

We are looking to recruit an Administration Volunteer for the Sutton Coldfield and District Group. Our Administration Volunteers are the linchpin for our local groups’ activities. They act as the first point of contact and they make sure all relevant information is circulated to other volunteers and members. And they play an important role in keeping our data and details up to date to comply with data protection legislation.

In this role you’ll develop your administration and organisation skills. Most importantly you’ll be help your local group run efficiently, so they can keep providing valuable services to our MS community. 

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. What is the plan?

The person who is starting the charity up is autistic, has ADHD, CPTSD and also multiple physical conditions that effect daily life and is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has faced a lot of issues in life because of these things.

Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. Here at Youth4Youth, we have grown a strong, tight-knit community of individuals who are passionate about making a difference and improving the lives of young people across the UK. Our growing team of volunteers all contribute, significantly, to the impact that we have as a charity on our direct beneficiaries, regardless of the department that they work in of the level of time that they are able to commit. Our services primarily offer a peer-support network to young people right across the UK, allowing them to access a peer mentor who is of a similar age to them and somebody that they feel more comfortable speaking with.

If successful, you will be joining a growing team of diverse, but likeminded individuals, collaborating to increase the reach of the Charity and improve support provisions available to young people. All of our volunteers and employees are remote workers, but that doesn't stop us keeping in touch and maintaining a strong positive culture amongst our whole team.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Executive Leadership Team here at Youth4Youth to drive positive change in all things volunteer engagement. As an entirely volunteer run organisation, positive engagement with volunteers is absolutely fundamental in allowing Youth4Youth to achieve its mission. It is so fundamental that one of our overarching strategic goals is to ensure that all volunteers have a positive and meaningful volunteering experience when working with us. The Volunteer Experience Director will play a critical role in setting strategy and executing solutions to improve the overall volunteer experience. 

Responsibilities 

Short term objectives:

• Define the volunteering proposition for the Charity, helping new and existing volunteers to understand the impact of working with Youth4Youth
• Manage a project to understand gaps in volunteer engagement and experience, generating recommendations back to the ELT
• Develop a volunteer experience strategy that improves engagement and the overall volunteering experience of all involved with Youth4Youth

Overall objectives and responsibilities:

• Lead a team of volunteers who are involved in supporting a positive volunteering experience with the charity
• Develop and execute a volunteer experience strategy that seeks to attract, engage and retain high-quality volunteers into all teams across the charity
• Partner effectively with the broader charity leadership team to understand engagement challenges and implement solutions to close engagement gaps
• Report to the CEO and the Board of Trustees on any strategic progress made around improving volunteer engagement

Skills 

• Ability to manage complex projects, including the direct and indirect management and coordination of people resources
• Ability to understand complex problems and articulate solutions in a clear, concise and understandable manner
• Demonstrable blue-sky thinking that encourages the implementation of new solutions that may not have been considered before

Who we are

Groundwork stands at the intersection of people, places and planet, creating practical solutions that tackle hardship, advance environmental justice, and build community resilience. For over four decades, we have been bringing together public and private resources to support communities in addressing their most pressing social and environmental challenges.

As the national body of a federation of 14 independent Groundwork Trusts across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Groundwork UK plays a vital coordinating role. We manage national programmes, secure resources for local delivery, and build relationships with funders and policymakers that benefit the entire network.

Our work spans from helping people reduce energy bills and find green jobs, to creating community hubs where neighbours can connect and access support, to distributing grants that enable local groups to improve their neighbourhoods. Last year, we helped the federation access over £100 million in funding and distribute £50 million in grants, supporting 12,000 community organisations and helping 60,000 people to reduce their energy and water bills.

About the role

We are seeking two exceptional individuals to strengthen our governance structure at a time of significant opportunity and change.

• Trustee and Chair of Programmes & Partnerships Committee

This role combines membership of our Federation Board with chairing one of our key committees. The Programmes & Partnerships Committee oversees Groundwork UK’s work to increase our visibility and credibility, build national relationships with government, business and charitable funders, and manage programmes that add value to local delivery while directly supporting communities through grants.

This position requires someone who can navigate the complex dynamics of our federated structure while providing strategic oversight of our national income generation, communications and programme management activities.

• Co-opted Finance & Risk Committee Member

This specialised role focuses on the systems and processes that underpin everything we do at Groundwork UK.

We need someone who understands the strategic risks and opportunities associated with data utilisation, digital technology, AI and management information systems, particularly in the context of public sector transformation. This isn’t about developing systems, but about governing them effectively and helping us maximise benefits and minimise risks. The role may develop into full board membership should the individual also wish to join the Federation Board as a Trustee.

Who we are looking for

For the Trustee and Chair of Programmes & Partnerships Committee, we need someone with senior experience in voluntary sector fundraising, income generation, communications or campaigning. You will have worked at a strategic level in a charity or similar organisation, understanding the complexities of building relationships with diverse funders, from government departments to major foundations to corporate partners. Your experience might include developing or overseeing funding strategies, managing stakeholder relationships, overseeing communications campaigns, or leading programme development initiatives.

For the Co-opted Finance & Risk Committee Member position, we are looking for someone with experience of systems management in complex organisational environments, potentially in the public sector or with experience in organisations serving public purposes. You might be someone who has worked in transformation, IT management, service digitisation, AI or similar contexts where systems must serve both internal efficiency needs and external public access requirements.

You don’t need to be a technology specialist, but you should understand the governance challenges that arise. This includes cybersecurity risks, data protection obligations, business continuity planning, and the challenge of making informed decisions about technology investments.

Both roles require individuals who are invested in Groundwork’s mission of creating a fair and green future where people, places and nature thrive. You should be someone who can see the connections between social and environmental challenges and who believes in the power of community-led solutions.

• Time Commitment

Both roles operate on a quarterly meeting cycle, with board meetings and committee meetings alternating throughout the year. For the Trustee and Chair of Programmes & Partnerships Committee, this typically involves attending four Federation Board meetings and four committee meetings annually, plus preparation time and occasional ad hoc consultations. We estimate this at the equivalent of up to a day a month.

For the Co-opted Finance & Risk Committee Member position, the commitment would initially be lighter, focused on quarterly committee meetings with associated preparation. This could grow if you choose to take on board membership and attend the Federation Board meetings which are held quarterly.

We meet during weekday daytimes, alternating between in-person sessions in Birmingham and online meetings.
