Volunteer Store Collection Coordinator

RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch

 Are you passionate about animals and eager to make a difference in their lives? If so, we’d love to hear from you! The RSPCA Suffolk Central branch has several volunteer opportunities available—come and join our team to help improve animal welfare.

 Our fabulous team of volunteers run regular store collections across Suffolk helping to raise valuable funds and spread awareness of our vital work and upcoming fundraising events. We are looking for a Volunteer Store Collection Co-ordinator to help plan and organise these collections in both the East Suffolk area (Felixstowe to Needham Market) and West Suffolk area (Stowmarket to Bury St Edmunds)

Role responsibilities:

•  Liaise with our Community Engagement Administrator on locations/dates required and ensure bookings confirmed with store/head office.
•  Co-ordinate with Store Managers on logistics/timings for the day.
• Book in volunteer collectors before each date (usually around 6 required for 2 hour shifts each), with assistance from Community Engagement Administrator and send information/reminders before the day to the team.
•  Prepare collection buckets with labels and seal with ties.
•  Deliver buckets, table and literature to a collector who is doing the first shift.
• Collect the buckets, table and literature from the last collectors and deliver the buckets to a Trustee to count/bank the takings.
• Follow up communications to volunteers, branch team and store manager notifying them of collection total and sending thank you’s.

•  Friendly and confident at talking to people
•  Experienced in retail and/or customer service although this is not necessary as full training will be given

Nomad Health Initiative

Nomad Health Initiative is an early-stage venture building data-driven access to Healthcare for last-mile Pastoral Communities in Northern Kenya.

Nomad Health Initiative addresses the interconnected social and environmental challenges that affect the health and survival of nomadic and pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya, particularly in regions like Moyale and North Horr. These challenges include:

1. Limited Access to Healthcare • Challenge: Nomadic families live in remote, scattered Manyattas, often over 50 km from the nearest health facility. • Impact: Women miss antenatal care, babies remain unimmunized, and preventable illnesses go untreated, leading to high infant and maternal mortality rates.

2. Marginalization of Nomadic Communities • Challenge: Pastoralist populations are often excluded from national health planning due to their mobility and lack of infrastructure. • Impact: They are underserved in health budgets, data collection, and public health outreach, widening the health equity gap.

3. Malnutrition and Child Mortality • Challenge: Chronic drought, food insecurity, and displacement have led to rising malnutrition rates among children under 5. • Impact: Increased cases of stunting, wasting, and preventable deaths — often undetected until critical.

4. Climate Change and Displacement • Challenge: Recurring droughts and resource-based conflicts displace families and limit access to water and food. • Impact: Health services become harder to deliver; mothers and children are more exposed to disease and mental stress.

5. Stigma and Invisibility of Disability • Challenge: Children with disabilities in pastoralist communities are often hidden or neglected due to stigma and lack of support. • Impact: They miss out on early intervention, education, and basic health services.

Nomad Health Initiative delivers last-mile, culturally sensitive healthcare to nomadic and pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya who are often left out of the formal health system. We professionalize frontline health workers and digitizing the healthcare access, on a path to reach more and more pastoral women and children.

You’ll help us explore and integrate practical tech solutions — from AI to blockchain — that improve how we deliver services, especially in health and learning systems. You don’t need to know everything, but curios and creative!

Your roles will include:

1. You'll support us in identifying and testing technology tools (like AI chatbots, digital IDs, or LMS platforms) that can improve how we reach communities, especially in health and education.

2. You’ll help us think through how to set up or improve systems we use — such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) or mobile health tools — so they’re easy to use and actually serve people’s needs.

The Volunteer Co-ordinators role requires proactive and detail orientated individuals with an organised approach and an interest in supporting small charities. The Volunteer Co-ordinators are responsible for the volunteer aspects of Burning Nights CRPS Support to ensure the smooth running of the charity’s services and ensuring that the volunteers are used optimally.

The role 

We are looking for a new Chair who understands the growing demand for our services and the challenges of competing as a medium sized charitable business at this time. We shall look to our new Chair to build trust and engagement with our CEO, the Trustee Board, our volunteers, and supporters, as we capitalise on great recent work to stabilise and find new opportunities for significant growth. 

The new chairperson will ideally bring health and wellbeing experience and commercial skills, as well as a demonstrable empathy for charitable working and commitment to the Nolan Principles of public life. 

The role of the Chair is hugely rewarding and the scope under the leadership of the current CEO for Evolve to grow and innovate is significant. You will have significant senior leadership experience to drawn upon as you take ultimate responsibility for directing and inspiring the Trustees, making sure we are financially sustainable, and well run for our clients. About Student Action for Refugees

STAR (Student Action for Refugees) is the national network of students building a society where refugees and asylum seekers are welcomed and can thrive. 

Set up by students at Nottingham University in 1994, STAR is creating a more understanding, just and welcoming society by: 

• empowering young people to be changemakers; 
• providing practical support and connecting local communities through volunteering and student volunteer led community projects; 
• challenging the structural barriers that refugees and asylum seekers face when seeking protection and building new lives in the UK; 
• Sharing trusted information about asylum and the lived experience of refugees to combat misinformation, hostile narratives and instead spread compassion and humanisation 

We have a small staff team who train and support the network and lead on national campaign and advocacy work, with expertise in improving access to higher education for forced migrants.

Here are just some of our highlights from last year:

• 37  STAR university student society groups, across 28  towns and cities, run by 222 STAR student leaders. 
• 262 events were organised by STAR groups to educate, campaign, and fundraise for a more welcoming UK, from art exhibitions to cookery classes and film nights.
• 1,280 refugees and people seeking asylum were supported by 413 volunteers  through 28 community projects and 25 one off volunteering events. 
• 100s of students mobilised to support calls for better treatment of refugees in the UK including standing against detention, for a fairer plan for refugees and to lift the ban on work.
• 88 UK universities now offer sanctuary scholarships for refugee students. The STAR staff team was involved in the development of many of these new scholarships and the improvement of  existing scholarships. We also ran workshops for hundreds of  university staff. 
• 15 STAR groups campaigned for Equal Access at their institutions and 4 won!
• 65 aspiring refugee students were supported by our mentoring project and we provided signposting and advice about accessing HE to over 470 people.

My Black Dog is a charity that offers anonymous, peer to peer mental health support through our web-chat service. We are committed to making a positive impact on mental health in the UK as we tackle an epidemic that millions of people face.

We were founded on the motto "talk to someone who gets it". We want to connect people who share lived experiences to provide an empathetic, non-judgmental space where everybody understands how it feels to experience mental health struggles.

Position Overview

Our web-chat service is run by our Volunteer Pack, each of whom have their own lived experience of mental health challenges. In addition, each shift has a 'Leader' and a 'Mentor'. These are Volunteers who carry out specific roles during the shift and, together, ensure its success:

• Leaders - Managers of the shift. There to ensure the shift runs as it should. They support and guide Volunteers through chats and follow safeguarding processes when an alert is raised. They escalate safeguarding alerts to the shift’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (a trained professional). They also complete a 'Shift Handover' document once the shift is completed.
• Mentors - There to support and guide Volunteers through chats. Will take over from the Leader if there are safeguarding issues that need the Leader's attention and/or if the Leader needs a break.

As My Black Dog looks to expand our opening hours, we are looking to recruit additional Leaders who can run shifts and provide cover when necessary.

Leaders will be assigned a shift based on your availability and preference. The expectation is that Leaders and Mentors will form a ‘pair’ and, together, will do one shift at the same time each week. This is to provide stability, predictability and to encourage community-building between Volunteers. Shifts are usually 3 hours long. We may ask you to cover another shift when we are short, but you will never do more than 6 hours per week.

Training will be provided and you will be supported on shift by a Designated Safeguarding Lead, who will manage all safeguarding issues.

The work you will do as Leaders will ensure we provide the best possible service to our Guests. You will also be helping our Volunteer Pack to do what we do best: helping those in need by speaking to someone who 'gets it'.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for people who have experienced their own journey with mental health and are in a strong position to support others. We ask that our Leaders:

• Are strongly committed to helping others
• Have experienced mental health issues in order to relate to those seeking help
• Are collaborative and enjoy working with others
• Are encouraging and supportive
• Are organised and can monitor several things at once
• Can remain calm and focused during busy times and when safeguarding alerts are raised
• Are 18 years and over 
• Can commit the time to a regular weekly shift

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who are available to run a shift on the following days/hours:

• Monday to Sunday, 5pm-7pm
• Thursday to Saturday, 7pm-10pm

Role Responsibilities

1. Supervise and support Volunteers whilst on shift with general enquiries, positive feedback and signposting.
2. Assist with general volunteering enquiries whilst on shift. Provide time for guidance, instruction and de-briefing for Volunteers if required.
3. Follow Leaders processes including unexpected absence reporting, Volunteer check-in and check-out, and completing Shift Handovers.
4. Monitor web-chat conversations and ensure all chats are tagged.
5. Maintain ability to listen, remain calm and provide intervention if necessary.
6. Be able to have difficult and often complex conversations about mental health, including Guests experiencing crisis and first-stage intervention support.
7. Work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) when safeguarding risks are identified.
8. Exercise discretion in handling confidential situations and information, conveying sensitive information in a timely manner to necessary individuals.
9. Provide written follow up of shifts via handover, ensuring all necessary information is handed over at the end of the shift.
10. Adhere to all standards, policies and procedures of My Black Dog.

About the CHPI

The CHPI was set up in 2011 to study the consequences of UK health and social care being transferred from public ownership and provision to the private sector.

We are committed to the founding principles of the NHS, and are proudly independent of both government and the corporate sector. Despite having a fraction of the financial and organisational resource of larger organisations such as the Kings Fund and the Nuffield Trust, we have had a major impact on issues such as the Private Finance Initiative, patient safety in private hospitals, care home financing, conflicts of interest in the NHS, and pandemic preparedness. Our work regularly features in the national media and in parliament.

Our Work

We are a research organisation and our main outputs are reports, analyses, blogs, social media content, and meetings with policy makers, journalists, and campaign groups, all of which are aimed at having an impact on the public policy debate.

Being a Trustee for the CHPI

The CHPI is a close-knit and committed group of people supporting an organisation that reflects our values. We meet every other month, face to face or online to support the director and oversee the governance of the organisation.

Trustees serve initially for two years.

Roles of a CHPI Trustee

The role of the Board of Trustees in CHPI is to:

• Help to develop the organisation

• Provide support for the Director in the day-to-day delivery of the organisation’s objectives

• Work with the Director to develop annual research and fundraising strategies

• Ensure that the organisation meets its statutory duties including in relation to fundraising, financial reporting, budgeting and risk management.

Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone
