We are looking to recruit an Activities Volunteer for the Croydon Group. As our local group Activities Volunteer you’ll help us to set up activities in the area. Whether you’re serving refreshments, talking to people, registering attendees or collecting payments, you’ll be making sure everyone feel welcome.

Action for Refugees in Lewisham works to relieve poverty and isolation amongst refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in Lewisham. At the Rainbow Club supplementary school we aim to help children between the ages of 4 and 11 to improve their literacy, numeracy and social skills in a friendly and supportive environment.  We need your skills and enthusiasm to assist the teacher in the delivery of a literacy and numeracy class and work with other volunteers to develop a programme of recreational activities. The Rainbow Club runs on Saturday mornings during term-time.

Your duties will include:

• Arriving punctually for the 9am briefing by the Rainbow Club Headteacher;
• Working in a team with other volunteers and teachers to deliver literacy, numeracy, arts, sport activities – this includes ensuring children remain engaged throughout the lesson and carry out set tasks as instructed by the teacher;
• Working one-to-one with specific children if and when required;
• Filing classroom work and homework in children’s individual files and keeping all materials and resources tidy and properly stored;

For our corporate clients (restaurants, offices, factories, schools, and stores), we offer a punctual, responsible, and cost-effective service for managing organic and recyclable waste.

On the other hand, event organizers don’t want to deal with cleaning staff hired exclusively for the event, with the risk of no-shows. Moreover, they aim to provide an eco-friendly destination for event waste, both for marketing and brand positioning purposes and to comply with regulations.

Urban gardens and waste pickers' cooperatives struggle with economic sustainability.

Urban gardens struggle to market the vegetables they produce.

We offer three types of services:

1. Selective collection of recyclable and organic waste for individuals living in houses or apartments. These customers aim to adopt sustainable practices, such as composting, but often face time and space constraints. For this reason, they subscribe to a monthly waste collection service.
2. Selective collection of recyclable and organic waste for businesses, covering a wide range of establishments such as restaurants, cafés, bakeries, offices, factories, schools, stores, among others.

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures and the charity has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998. We provide support to men between the ages of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their community for up to 12 months.

In London, services are delivered at HMP Brixton and HMPYOI Isis. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can spare half a day per week to support young men to change their life by acting as an inspirational role model and helping with goal setting. Mentoring sessions usually last 1 hour per week; allowing enough time for travel and liaising with Trailblazers staff will take about half a day.

Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his own community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and to give a person a sense of hope for the future. As a charity we are reliant on volunteers; with your help we can continue to support people in prison to make and change to their lives, their family and wider society. We welcome all skill sets within Trailblazers as we work with a diverse group of men, all we ask if you have a genuine passion for social change and that you can commit to at least 1 young man for up to 12 months, so they have a consistent person in their life - something that some of our mentees have never had. The national average re-offending rate for a person leaving prison is up to 55%, the rate for those who have a Trailblazers mentor is lowered to 9%. 

We are actively looking for people to join our mentoring community with lived experience of the criminal justice system, underrepresented groups from BAME community, creative arts, business skills, wellbeing - whatever your skills and background we are open to hear from you to support our diverse group of men.Out of pocket expenses are covered as well as training to equip you for your role. Role activities:

• To provide a positive role model for people in prison and in their own community, to be empathic and to have a desire and commitment to support people to fulfil their potential.

• To attend and participate fully in the initial and ongoing mentor training.

• To attend group support/supervision meetings and review performance within mentoring relationships.

• To complete mentoring session notes relevant to the mentoring service for monitoring purposes.

• To be non-judgmental, focus on the person rather than the offense. 

• Professional but relatable with strong communication skills. 

• Awareness of adversity and how to overcome barriers to build a supportive network around the mentee.

• Be able to take advice and guidance from Trailblazers staff. 

Criteria: 

• Over 21. 

• We encourage applications from those with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System but you must be off licence for a minimum of 12 months, and not in crisis yourself. 

• You cannot apply to a project if you have been a resident in the same prison yourself. 

• A good level of fitness to able to move around a prison at fast past that does include stairs 

• Due to security checks at the prison you must be a British citizen.     

• Not committed an offense where you are barred from working with vulnerable adults or children. 

• Live within a 30-mile radius from the prison at which you would like to volunteer.

1. Help link these organisations with Crisis so that information can be shared about the realities of homelessness in London and the work of Crisis Skylight

• Is fluent in English and Tigrinya and/or Amharic and can translate and interpret between them

A significant amount of our funding comes from trusts and foundations. It is only through the grants we receive that we're able to provide free specialist casework that helps the most vulnerable people with the most complex problems.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be a professional actor or drama teacher, just someone who is enthusiastic about drama and passionate about inclusion. We especially value:

• A background or interest in drama, theatre, or performance
• Good communication and a warm, encouraging approach
• Enthusiasm, patience, and a willingness to get involved
• A non-judgemental and inclusive mindset
• Reliability and commitment, especially in the lead-up to the summer show
• Flexibility to support a creative, sometimes unpredictable environment

Prior to volunteering, we ask all volunteers to:

• Attend an induction meeting
• Provide two references
• Complete a DBS check (we will arrange this)
• Commit to volunteering one session per week for 3 x 10 week terms throughout the year. For continuity for our service users, we ask that you commit to volunteer for a minimum of a year with us.

At REMIX, we’re not just setting up a charity. We’re creating a platform for mentorship, creativity, confidence-building, and lifelong opportunity—and we’re doing it in partnership with young people, families, and local communities.

The Role: Trustee (Volunteer)

We are assembling a diverse and dynamic Trustee Board to guide the set-up, strategy, and launch of REMIX. You’ll play a central role in creating an inclusive, inspiring, and sustainable organisation that puts youth potential front and centre.

As a REMIX Trustee, you will:

• Steer Our Vision: Collaborate on the charity’s strategic goals, values, and roadmap from launch to long-term impact.

• Ensure Good Governance: Help lay strong foundations in line with Charity Commission guidance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity.

• Advise on Key Areas: Bring expertise in areas like youth services, finance, legal, education, community engagement, HR, fundraising, or lived experience.

• Champion our Cause: Be an ambassador for REMIX, advocating for youth empowerment and expanding our network through your connections and passion.

• Build Something That Matters: Co-create REMIX’s culture, ethos, and ambition—helping shape a lasting legacy for East London’s young people.

We especially welcome people with lived experience, those connected to our East London communities, and individuals passionate about building grassroots change with creativity and courage. We're also interested in people with fundraising experience, financial management/accounting experience, leadership experience, charity or education experience and much more.
