Check NowAs part of our family support service, The Joshua Tree provides opportunities for all members of our families to connect with and gain support from our team of support workers. This includes children and young people that are newly diagnosed with cancer, on treatment and post treatment, as well as siblings and wider young family members. By developing a positive, trusting and caring ongoing professional relationship with the children and their families, the families will feel comfortable and confident in visiting the centre on a regular basis.
The key purpose of this role is to plan and deliver a high quality, child focused programme of activities for children aged 0 to 18 affected by childhood cancer. Over the next 12 months the Support Centre will be utilised during the daytime, after school times, in the evenings, at weekends and during the school holidays, therefore flexibility on working days and times is essential. The role will also include delivering 1 to 1 support programmes to enhance emotional wellbeing with children in school or at their home. This means that there is an expectation for Family Support staff to travel and be willing to use their car for business purposes. Post holders must have a full driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle. Mileage expenses will be covered by the employer.
It will be important to maintain the playroom, teenage areas and playground at the Support Centre, as well as planning, organising and implementing activities, programmes, groups and individual care plans to suit the needs of children and young people.
Strong communication in this role is key and this includes liaising with other members of the family support team to co-ordinate targeted interventions when required e.g. counselling, art therapy, nutrition advice, personal training, school support etc. This post also involves an element of administrative duties as well as monitoring the impact our work is having on our beneficiaries and regularly updating our new Lamplight Database system.
The nature of work is hugely rewarding it can also be emotionally demanding. A full induction programme and training will be provided and we are a very supportive team, offering regular supervision and reflection time to support emotional wellbeing. It is working with our Activities for All team to promote the use of mainstream activities for families of disabled children in Leeds. You would be joining our bank of staff, be matched to a family and then work to support that young person to join an activity, helping them settle in and upskilling the activity staff until confidence is build for you to withdraw. Job Description
The purpose of the job is to deliver youth and community provision for Carney’s Community.
Specific duties of the Youth Worker and Mentor (session based):
- Support the weekly session of activities at Carney’s Community, such as boxing, bike maintenance, cooking classes, youth club and music studio sessions.
- Support the holiday activities provided by the organisation, such as trips or youth festivals.
- Be proactive and youth-led in coming up with ideas for how to better engage young people in the organisation, particularly the target group of young people the charity aims to support.
- Work collaboratively and supportively within a team of other mentors and coaches in order to bring a united front to sessions.
- Attend briefings, de-briefings and ongoing meetings to improve practice and allow space for discussion of sessions.
- Be consistent in imposing the Carney’s Community Code of Conduct within sessions and setting clear boundaries and expectations to young people during sessions.
- Take registers during sessions, complete contact sheets following sessions and a timesheet each month. Ensure all paperwork is completed on time and sent digitally to the Admin team.
General duties
- Attend regular supervision and team meetings as agreed with line manager.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with Carney’s Community’s policies, actively safeguarding and promoting equality and seeking to prevent and overcome disadvantage, discrimination and bullying.
- Ensure that legislation relating to the health safety and protection of young people, staff and the general public is complied with at all times.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality with young people, staff and volunteers.
- Attend training events and undertake other professional development.
- Be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from your role in the organisation with regard to Child Protection procedures and the Safeguarding policies of the organisation to keep young people safe and protected from harm.
- To be fully aware of the principles of safeguarding as they apply to vulnerable adults in relation to your work role.
- To ensure that your line manager is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which you may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection
- Be a positive role model to young people during all work done at Carney’s Community and behave appropriately when out in the community in order to uphold the positive reputation of the centre.
- Complete the relevant training and development to fulfil statutory and Carney’s Community requirements (e.g. first aid and safeguarding) and be open to ongoing professional development.
- Take an active role in monitoring and evaluation activities including focus groups, questionnaires and case studies with young people.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibilities of the post.
If you progress towards Keywork, your role would involve:
- Develop effective one-to-one working relationships with an identified group of young people at risk and their families/carers. To provide them with intensive, individual support and mentoring. This may involve outreach, home visits and a range of other youth work strategies to engage the interest of young people and their families.
- Structure your work with each young person and develop Personal Development Plans to identify barriers to their progress. Set bespoke goals to support learning or personal development targets and action plans and conduct regular reviews with them.
- Keep in regular contact with the identified young people, through arranged appointments and informally at sessions or as and when you are able to connect with them.
- Provide them with ongoing advice, practical support and encouragement to enable them to participate in positive and constructive activities and a range of informal learning and personal development opportunities.
- Research and provide young people with basic information on the range of learning, training and career options and support services available to them, referring to specialists where necessary.
- Work proactively with other professionals in the team around the child in order to promote good outcomes for the young person.
- Support young people as they move between school and college/employer-based placements and be proactive rather than reactive to their ongoing needs.
- Advocate for the young person in order for them to stay enrolled in education or training and work as best you can to ensure they avoid becoming out of education for a long period.
- Carry out home visits and provide information and advice to the families of the identified young people.
- Maintain accurate, up to date records of case work and record with a keen eye for detail.
- Monitor young people’s progress and outcomes and supply information to relevant partners if appropriate.
Working hours may be subject to change and are based around the sometimes changing requirements and functions of Carney’s Community’s work. Reasonable notice will be given for any such changes.

About The Role
The Bracknell play scheme delivers a holiday play scheme and a Saturday service (during term time).
The service uses community facilities as a base, but also delivers a range of outings from farm trips to specialist adventure playgrounds. You will be supported by a senior support worker.
As the service coordinator you will be the registered manager for Ofsted early years.
The role also involves supporting our small after school and play scheme service in Oxford. This will involve weekly catch up support for the local Senior Practitioner leading the service. This will be via telephone and video call support with occasional meetings in person. In person support may be once a month depending on circumstances.
This role is a full time role mainly based in Bracknell from our local office.
About You
A person centred individual committed to supporting quality outcomes for children and young people with disabilities.
We are looking for someone with the skills to deliver planned group support to disabled children and young people and manage a small team of sessional workers in the delivery of good outcomes.
You will need to have good communication skills as you will be communicating with a range of stakeholders (parents, social workers, health professionals). You will also need to have good report writing skills.
Ideally the successful applicant will be a Bracknell resident, or live local to the Bracknell area.

We lead on representing the views and real life experiences of our audiences so that supporters can be front and centre of our campaigns, and we deeply understand who is part of our community - bringing data that makes our campaigns more impactful and supporter-driven, and ensuring campaigns better resonate with our broad, representative community and beyond. We amplify these findings for use internally and externally.
The CSI Officer, reporting to the Head of CSI, delivers a full-range of activities, from providing a high quality service and experience to 38 Degrees' community of supporters and stakeholders, to collecting and reporting on relevant data and information and providing analysis of what we hear from the community of supporters and target audiences
The Officer role is responsible for making recommendations that contribute to ongoing CSI analysis and campaign decisions, using a variety of data points and channels, supporting the wider team to utilise community insights to make 38 Degrees more impactful and engaging, and to empower the 38 Degrees community. The role is also responsible for implementing relevant recommendations when required.

MANAGE INTEGRATED PROCESSES

Analyse and report on CSI data, in line with 38 Degrees' data handling and security guidelines, in support of campaign design and delivery as well as data-driven strategic decision-making.

Responsible for resolving queries from a variety of communication channels from our community of supporters and the public,while consistently meeting agreed response timelines and overseeing the timely resolution of urgent queries.

Provide high quality service standards and supporter experience, based on established guidelines. Continue to develop, update, and implement these guidelines and best practices, and lead relevant staff training.
